Samuel L. Jackson May NOT Play Nick Fury!

Said the actor who previously played the eye-patched agent of shield, "There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don't know. Maybe I won't be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], 'We're not making that deal."

This from the LA Times...

Samuel L. Jackson, clearly bristling, said today that negotiations to put him in the role of Nick Fury have broken down because "there seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world."

Jackson told me today that despite his cameo as the hard-bitten military man at the end of "Iron Man," it now appears that "somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won't be in it" when it comes to "Iron Man 2," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers," the announced slate of Marvel Studios projects through 2011 that might have a natural spot for the character.

Jackson, who is a fanboy favorite after roles in three "Star Wars" films, "The Incredibles" and "Unbreakable," was actually used as the model for the Ultimate Marvel version of Fury, which took the white, grizzled, aging commando with salt-and-pepper hair and re-imagined him as a younger, bald African American. There were cheers in theaters at the end of "Iron Man," when Jackson appeared as Fury, but when I asked the actor about it today he shook his head.

"I saw ['Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, 'I hope things are working out for you because we're writing stuff for you.' Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren't really working that well."

what?! he's the perfect Fury! unless they're going for the older looking Nick (the white one), but if they're sticking with the new one, Jackson looks exactly like the part

Well, as sucky as this news is, lets hope they get it figured out. I hate to see someone else step into the role, being that Jackson is Fury.

I am also intrigued by the idea of bringing in Black Widow to run SHIELD. We'll have to keep an eye on this one.

guys calm down.

Sam Jackson is just like Christopher Walken. He never turns down a role unless he's too busy w/ other work.

it's probably just his agent who is used to getting big bucks due to Jackson's work.

He probably asked for too much money, seems that the average human cant live off a meesly 20Million+ a year... shame.

the fact that modern Fury was modeled after Sam Jackson kinda is a like a dead give away that he should play the part lol. Patience will be the key to unfolding this mystery. Hopefully it works out in the end.

if Jackson really wants to play Fury, why doesn't he sort it out with marvel instead of leaving it to his agent, who lets face it is only interested in how much of a cut he would get from Jackson playing Fury. f***ing agents, are they good for anything!

WHAT? Are you shiting me? Jackson didn’t look the part; the part was altered for him, to match him specifically. They took the character of Nick Fury and basically said “he is Sam Jackson”. I mean the guy is a brilliant actor and all but, come on he doesn’t look like Nick Fury.
And TheSoulEater, Same thing, as above. He could sure act the part, god knows, that Jackson can act anything he wants but he certainly didn’t look like Nick Fury.

Good effin' grief!!

I cannot take that man seriously in anything he does anymore. The guy takes any crappy role that's handed to him. Sam Jack has become a parody of himself and I really do hope they continue with the plans to not use him.

Yes I did a quick count once this story was posted and people started freaking out. 44 words AFTER CREDITS rolled.

He's not even IN the movie.

Want to replace Jackson, go with the man would acts like Jackson before Jackson was Jackson.

Tenaciousbt1: You obviously don't know as much as you think you do. The Ultimates Nick Fury is black. Not only that, but the artist's that created the Ultimates, based there creation of Nick Fury on... guess who... that's right, Sam Jackson. Look it up you tool. True the classic Fury was an older white guy, and honestly I like him better that way, but if you haven't noticed, most of the material they use for these movies is based on the Ultimates.

As for this news. I don't like it. I hate recast's, especially if there is nothing wrong with the person being recast. Just bothers me. But Sam is the man and I think it will all work itself out.

Everyone calm down, he is going to play the role. They did not say they were taking it from him, they just said it wasnt looking all that good. They know its in there best interest for Sam to play Nick Fury.
JohnnyKrypton
JohnnyKrypton - 1/14/2009, 8:18 AM
Eh. If they go with classic Fury, I won't complain, as that's the version I prefer, but if they're going to keep the Ultimates vibe, stick with Sam.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 1/14/2009, 8:49 AM
Well the ultimate version of Fury was my favorite..although i did like the Hoffs take on him!(joke..although it was funny) so i hope they can get Jackson in there somehow
loganoneil
loganoneil - 1/14/2009, 9:02 AM
Jeeez people, you make it sound as if the boys at Marvel broke into your house and @#$-ed your cat! There is no PERFECT actor for a PERFECT role. Different actors have different interpretations on a character - THAT'S ALL! Some are good (Jackson), some... leave room for improvement (The 'Hoff'). IF Jackson doesn't keep the role, will I be disappointed? Yes, but if I may suggest an alternative to all you rabid Jacksonites - two words, 'Denzel Washington'. Think about it...
DrFever
DrFever - 1/14/2009, 9:58 AM
PEOPLE....

JACKSON WASN'T EVEN IN THE MOVIE. HE SPOKE 44 WORDS.

We have no idea what he'd do with some type of comic book role...oh wait. The Spirit, which hasn't pulled in $20 mill yet.

He looked cool and said something that make geeks happy. He was given a can't hate roll.

Settle down.

I'm sorry to say but Sam is a Movie Ho. He'd played in a movie every year since 1988. He was only in about 10 good movies, and thats rounding up. I like the change they did to Nick but I think they can do better then Sam Jackson. WAY BETTER!!!!!!!!!!

Marvel should try Will Smith. He's great in action movies. He knows how to play an agent/soldier. He older and wiser, and a very great actor.

tjdr59 - 1/14/2009, 10:46 AM
Will Smith over Sam? Really? I think the studio is looking for actual actors not over paid hacks...I think.

Marvel might be in a bad spot, if they run out of money all these amazing, huge, block buster movies they promised might never happen. That alone could bankrupt Marvel yet again.
havoc
havoc - 1/14/2009, 11:03 AM
Will Smith as Nick Fury is crazy. If they want to keep the character in the film then it has to be Sam. There is no way they can change the characters actor and expect people to take it seriously!
I really hope Sam is in it or they completely cut the character out. If they don't then this movie might easily become a flop and thus lead marvel to further cash woes!
