BATGIRL Cancellation Was "Blown Out Of Proportion" According To Warner Bros Discovery CFO

The shelving of the Batgirl movie is still being discussed weeks after the new broke, but Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels believes the media blew the shelving "out of proportion."

Warner Bros. Discovery's decision to shelve the HBO Max Batgirl movie when it was already deep into post-production came as a massive surprise to everyone, and is still being discussed weeks after the news broke. The studio received a not insignificant amount of backlash for the cancellation, but WBD brass don't seem to be overly concerned.

While speaking at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels was asked whether the company’s reputation "in the talent community and agency business" had been negatively impacted by the cancellation of Batgirl and several other HBO Max projects.

Wiedenfels does not believe it has. “Media likes to talk about media, I guess,” he responded, adding that the announcement was "blown out of proportion" by the press.

The exec didn't elaborate any further, so we're not sure if he meant that the reasons for the cancellation were not entirely accurate or that the media overreacted. At the end of the day, the press was only covering the news, and the news did not portray WBD in a very positive light.

As things stand, the chances of us ever getting to see Batgirl for ourselves are very slim, but we recently learned that Warner Bros. Pictures Group chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy have reached out to star Leslie Grace and are "entertaining the possibility of having her continue to play Batgirl in a future DC film.”

@Godzilla2000Zer - if all the people who cared about it after it was cancelled, cared before it was cancelled maybe it wouldnt have been cancelled

Was for sure going to give it a shot and would rather see it than a certain other movie, but seriously some of these “mad” people are just looking for a reason to complain about WB

@grif - we literally got one promo pic and piece of concept art. How does that signal the movie needs to "burn in hell"? Like what actual, logistical reason, calls for that?

@jst5 - Everyone that saw BvS said it was a masterpiece and gave it a standing ovation. I take test screener reactions with a large grain of salt.

Lol, no shit he is going to say that.

What can any executive at WBD say at this point other than shrug, and move on?

They've spent more time trying to diffuse the Batgirl cancelation than they have over Ezra Miller's plowing through the legal system.

@Reeds2Much - don't be a [frick]ing twat. Spelling errors happen, perhaps the person is not even a native speaker. Be civil.
