BATGIRL Star Leslie Grace Confirms Sequel Talks; Opens Up On Sharing Scenes With Michael Keaton's Batman

The Flash is expected to create a new DC Extended Universe, and if photos from the set of Batgirl are any indication, that movie will take place in this rewritten reality. Unfortunately, with the Scarlet Speedster's movie pushed back to next June, it would no longer make sense for Batgirl to arrive on HBO Max this December (which was the prevailing theory given its holiday setting).

After all, how would you explain Michael Keaton being the DCEU's Batman without fans seeing The Flash first? We'll see what Warner Bros. decides to do, but during a recent interview with Variety, Barbara Gordon herself, Leslie Grace, reflected on getting to work with Keaton's Caped Crusader.

"It was wild for everyone," she said of the reaction to seeing Keaton arrive on set in costume. "Our directors were like two little kids. They’re legit Batman nerds openly. I couldn’t even believe that I was sharing space with Batman. I want to say more, but I can’t. It was insane, surreal, incredible. It was the stuff of dreams really. And J.K. Simmons playing my dad. That’s my pop."

This confirms Batgirl shares the screen with Batman, though we're not overly surprised because we first learned Keaton's Dark Knight would be Barbara's mentor when he was cast in The Flash.

The trade also asked Grace when she starts shooting Batgirl 2. "[Laughs] We got to see this first one first. But there’s definitely some talks about what it could be," the actress confirmed. "I’ve seen some of what we’ve shot, obviously in the playback and stuff like that, and it’s insane."

"We’ve already been talking about where do we take this from here because there’s so much that happens in this film. There are a lot of different themes in the plot that we touch on. It’s not just the action. There’s a love story. There’s this father-daughter relationship. There’s looking at the world through a lens that isn’t just black and white and seeing the color between things."

It's a shame Batgirl isn't destined for the big screen, though we're definitely excited over the prospect of the hero getting her own HBO Max franchise. She won't be the only DC character whose home will primarily be on the streaming service, though Blue Beetle was recently given a theatrical release instead.

Stay tuned for updates on Batgirl.

Or worse... They'll continue on and DC will act like Ezra wasn't a dual offender recently

"DC will act like Ezra wasn't a dual offender recently"

Pretty sure they all just met to discuss Ezra's behavior and future at the company.

@KWilly

They would say that. Still have a movie to promote, just don’t be surprised when it’s Keaton and everyone else taking the lead on the press tours.

@KWilly - They won't do that. Look at how well they handled Amber Hea...

All kidding aside I hope not because the more she talks the more I think Babs. Also getting some Rosario vibes too.

@KWilly - I think there’s a chance for that. If they can lock him down and keep him out of the public eye they might wait for it to blow over

@Dope21 - the solution is simple, kill Barry off, bring in Wally. Problem solved.

Flamingo for the sequel. The directors of Bad Boys for Life can do some good with the cannibal biker.

Put the breaks on these projects before they get stuck trying to defend them.

I don't really expect Flash to really reboot anything, and it's just gonna have Keaton step over from his universe over to the DCEU to replace Affleck's Batman.

Still, I'm very excited for this movie. Just gonna pretend this movie, Shazam, Aquaman, Blue Beetle, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker all take place in a different universe.

Which is why rebooting everything would be a terrible idea.

They just need to use the flash and DOFP it. Delete all the crap, Ezra, batfleck, cyborg, Jared Leto, etc. and just keep what’s working, CAVILL, WW, Shazam, SS, etc.

@HulkisHoly - DOFP'ing does seem like the best way to go. Although I wouldn't mind it either if they're continue building in The Batman universe either

This sorta reminds me of Batwoman a little in their rush to plan sequels. That show tanked, but they still greenlit one more season because they desperately want to prove there is a sustainable audience for a female-led superhero franchise. This movie only has a chance if the focus is on the writing and has real plot and character development. Most people are NOT anxious to see batgirl. It's gotta be a damn good movie to get people in those seats.
