4 things I want to see in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Hit the jump for my take on what Christopher Nolan & co should include in the epic conclusion to the Batman trilogy

In 2005, Chris Nolan brought the caped crusader back with a bang in Batman Begins. 6 years later, the conclusion to the trilogy is almost upon us. But what should they include in order to finish the series in satisfying, epic fashion?

1. The Bat-cave

In Batman Begins, the bat-cave was very basic, with only a few tools available. After the destruction of Wayne Manor at the end of Batman Begins, it was teased that Bruce was going to ‘improve the foundations on the south-east corner’. Yet, in The Dark Knight, we were given the Bat-bunker as Wayne Manor had not been fully rebuilt. With pictures surfacing a while back of the new Wayne Manor, Wollaton Hall, I am hopeful that we will finally witness a fully realised bat-cave, with workstations, laboratory equipment and everything else needed for Batman to wage his war on crime.

2. New Bat-vehicle

In both Batman films thus far, Nolan has given us two great bat vehicles. In Batman Begins, we had the Batmobile, aka The Tumbler. Unfortunately, in the The Dark Knight, the Batmobile suffered a painful demise. However, much to my surprise at the time, this paved the way for the birth of the Batpod, which survived the rest of the film. With the passing of the Tumbler, I had hoped that Nolan & co would come up with a more ‘traditional’ Batmobile, with a slicker design. However, the recent pictures that have surfaced online seem to point towards the resurrection of the Tumbler. Regardless of what vehicles are used, I look forward to watching another great chase sequence in the final installment.

3. Epic battle sequences

It can be argued that one aspect Nolan & co have not nailed down yet is impressive fight sequences. In Batman Begins, we did not get a great view of the action; Nolan utilised many close-up shots of Batman resulting in a lot of blurry shadows appearing on screen. That said this style of shooting leant itself to the film, underlining one of Batman’s primary tactics; stalking and attacking unsuspecting criminals. The climactic battle with Ra’s Al Ghul was very good, but not amazing. In The Dark Knight, whilst we got some better looks of Batman in action, again there are no fantastic fight sequences to speak of. The concluding battle with Joker was particularly disappointing. With Tom Hardy cast as the villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, I am hopeful of at least one throw-down that will finally deliver what has been sorely lacking – a massive, jaw-dropping, masterful fight sequence that I’ll be talking about long after I walk out of the theater.

4. Bruce Wayne accepting the mantle of Batman

During The Dark Knight, Bruce was willing to give up being Batman so he could pursue a relationship with his childhood friend, Rachel Dawes. This made sense in the context of the film, but with The Dark Knight Rises being the final part of the trilogy, there can be no more dreams of a normal life. Bruce must now fully accept the mantle of Batman, and this has to be clearly conveyed during the course of the film.

Totally Agree on your points dude.

Can I add: Much needed Joker reference. No bias, just one line for character continuity. Arkham related or escaped with aid of doctor etc.

I reckon the new vehicle addition should be some form of jet..as if the rumors about Bane's tumblers are true then Bats needs to add a new toy to his collection to battle the insurgents.

Thanks olly! Would love to see a jet in TDKR...

Bat-Cave: Bruce will rediscover his purpose there [I hope]. TDK never seemed complete with it's absence.

Bat-Vehicle: A flight capable vehicle would be cool. But hey, looks like TDKR will pit four Tumblers against each other.

Epic Battle Sequence: BB's and TDK's were great. Very meaningful defeats. But TDKR's needs to be brutal.

@ollyollyolly ~ The Blackgate Prison breakout supposedly features familiar faces from the comics, maybe even a Joker mention.

despero - the final fight scene with the joker at the end of TDKR was not great, it was average...

I know the Batmobile has never really been like easy to hide, but I just don't get the Tumbler.

It's gigantic! He might as well be driving Optimus Prime.

Anyone else think the scars on Bane's back are from burns?

It's the last one. They could at least get a little less "realistic"

I think a batplane would be a little too much.

i mean, where did Bruce learn how to fly a freaking plane with any kind of skill? it takes pilots a very long time to learn how to fly ANYTHING, much less a highpowered, top of the line jet fighter.

@ olly

and sorry, but there really doesn't need to be Joker reference. His story is done and over with. There were no loose strings left over from TDK concerning his character. Having Joker in it, even for a second, or even hearing his voice, would add nothing to the film or story. there's no need for it.

@OptimusKnight I almost totally agree.. A (even if VERY VERY SMALL) joker reference is in order though.

I'd like to see a resolution to the Two Face arch. I feel cheated with him dying and never fully developing into the two face we all know.

@ madking

okay,i can live with that, "I'm not some lunatic clown."

I'm talking about an actual scene with the Joker in a cell, or here him laughing, or something. thats really not needed.

I agree...
But something tells me that Nolan will kill Bruce, but not Batman (IN SOME WAY).
Whether Bruce dies, or fakes his death...

I want a Joker cameo like we hear him say "do u=you want to know where I got these scars" to someone in Arkham or something like that. Good points tho.

I don't want a Joker cameo, but I do want there to be some kind of reference to him. I just want to know what happened to him. Did he go to Arkham; did he get transfered to a federal prison? What happened to him?

Joker is not in Black Gate, criminals go to Black Gate, Jokers insane, he goes to Arkham Asylum, prison for the criminally insane.

@TheLoveDoc, I second that! I really think that's what Nolan is going to do. Bruce Wayne will be no more, and Lucius Fox will run Wayne Enterprises. Batman will go on. And I'm also calling it right now, that Catwoman dies.
