EDITORIAL: My Idea For A Small Joker Cameo In The Dark Knight Rises

I've mentioned this idea I've had on other sites and now I am going to tell you guys here what my idea would have been to have Joker in a small cameo in The Dark Knight Rises

One thing that bugged me in The Dark Knight Rises was the fact that the Joker wasn't mentioned nor heard of at all. It was strange due to the fact that the amount of chaos the Joker caused seemed to just be forgotten about. I respect Nolan's decision to not included the Joker due to the tragic death of Heath Ledger but at the same time WB's is selling shirts, action figures, hats, and other items that have the look and likeness of Heath (way to respect the dead WB's, hope Heath's family is getting a cut of that). Here is my idea of a small little cameo of the Joker in The Dark Knight Rises.



We're in Arkham. Bane is looking over a list of the more violent inmates to see which ones would be best to keep or let free. They go up to the Joker's cell. They never say this is the Joker but they tell you of this criminal's actions and crimes. Bane says to his henchmen, "We must keep order. There is no room for chaos in our plan and due to his chaotic history he is best kept where he is now." Bane and other leave to check on another cell but they show you inside the cell of the person they were talking about. It's dark inside the cell with a small amount of light. The criminal goes up to the light and you see smile with the white paint and red lips. End scene.

Thoughts on this?

The Joker Cameo is not a necessity. There are much bigger things they could of added to (or taken away from) that movie. Besides, the movie was already two hours and forty five minutes long.

They wouldnt let him wear his face paint in Arkham, so showing the white face and red lips would be silly.

The best cameo for him would have been if he was the judge at that fake court they had instead of Scarecrow.

Either way, the story didnt suffer because there was no Joker reference.

I don't get how a mention or a cameo would make the movie any better. It has been 8 years since he was around. The joker was not important to this story. They didn't need to mention him at. The mentions of Harvey on the ther hand made sense.

That would be interesting. I had thought of another way to have a small nod to the Joker in TDKR.

You have Holly Robinson's character rummaging through the remains of some of the now vacant wealthy homes of Gotham. She bumps into some of the mercenaries. The mercs restrain her as she tries to fight them off. One of the mercs says "looks like we have a wild card here." another merc says "she is nothing but a common thief". The other merc replies "Perhaps she would be more comfortable in a nice soft padded suite. Give her a taste of true Gotham Royalty." They take her into Arkham and toss her into a dark padded cell and slam the door shut. She hits the closed door and screams "let me outta here you freaks!" a voice resonates from the dark cell behind her "Freak is a term tossed around far too lightly in this town." Holly slowly turns towards the dark figure in the rear of the cell. The voice continues "it makes it difficult for people to understand the difference between them..." and a scarred face appears into the small beam of light being cast through a small narrow window from the cell door "...and us." followed by a shot from outside the cell door as we hear the classic joker laugh.

I thought a scene similar to this would be small nod not only to the joker, but it would also imply that Holly Robinson becomes Harley Quinn. Afterall, if John Blake can be Robin, why can't Holly be Harley! :)

Wouldnt it had been awesome if Heath had still been alive and DID do a cameo in TDKR, but as the judge in the mock courtroom instead of Scarecrow, what do u guys think?

LoudNoises.. i think thats a pretty awesome idea. maybe not that exact scene but something like that would have been very cool,the nod to harley and joker would have been 3 minutes of awesomness.

A Joker reference IMO should have just been on the news.Something along the lines like "N the Joker still remains locked up at Arkham after his heinous crimes 8 yrs ago.Thanks 2 The Dent Act all of the organized crime has been put 2 rest" or some shit like that. XD That way it wouldn't have affected the movie in anyway.It would also establish The Dent Act more so when Bane made the Dent Speech it prolly would have meant more.Idk jus my 2 cents XD

But how would Harvey have been a villian if he died at the end of TDK?

As much as I would have loved a Joker cameo / mention / reference, it's 8 years later so it's just not necessary. Had it been set, say, a few weeks after TDK, the Joker references would have made sense because Gotham would still be reeling from his actions, but not after 8 years...

Heath Ledger played a character. He is or was not the actual Joker, so I am baffled as to why the Joker could not make a cameo/ be referrenced/ or actually feature in a The Dark Knight sequel. I get respect to his family, but the characetr he portrayed does not belong to his family. I has been four years since his death after all

megabatfan - Yeah... If they're "rebooting" Batman now that Nolan's finished his trilogy, then someone else WILL take over as Joker eventually, but I think they were right not to re-cast the character in the very next film. Give it a few years, then look to the next interpritation of the Joker, and give the new actor the same freedom to put his own stamp on the character as the late & great Mr Ledger did.

Levitikuz. - Im sorry mate but that's simply not true. The film was already shot and finished when Heath Ledger died. He was off filming Doctor Parnassus when he died, months after TDK had wrapped. I like your idea, but you're making some dodgy claims here mate...

Levitikuz - Haha... English actually, Middlesbrough fan... I can see we've hit a bit of an impasse here, so I'm just gonna make a couple of final points then call it a day. First, if Heath Ledger's death was going to make Chris Nolan rethink the ending and change things, why would he change Harvey Dent's story? Do you really think he would go "Shit, Heath has died.. I'd better go back and kill off 2-Face"? It doesn't make any sense to do that. Also, films aren't shot sequentially, so for all we know, that last scene with Dent, Gordon & Batman could very well have been one of the very first scenes they shot for the film. My last point relates to the trailer / final film differences - this is very common. The first trailer for Return of the Jedi had Luke Skywalker swinging a Blue Lightsaber, but it was Green in the final film, and Revenge of the Sith (Yup, Star Wars nerd as well as Englishman) had a scenen where Ki-Adi Mundi gets gunned down by his Clone Troops - in the trailer this scene took place indoors inside a hangar, but in the final film it was outdoors and it was snowing. Trailers often feature incomplete footage due to the fan demand to see something, anything to tide us over... This doesn't mean Heath Ledgers death forced Nolan to change his movie - a movie which was already filmed and into post-production when Heath died. Whether you take my points onboard or not, good debate mate....

still, woulda been awesome if he lived i bet dark knight rises wouldve been a much much different film if heath was alive and the joker was in it, i doubt bane wouldve even been the villian
