Rumored Director's Cut Of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES To Come Out Right Before MAN OF STEEL

A source for Nuke The Fridge claimed that the DVD/Blu-ray release would include a director's cut of The Dark Knight Rises, and now they claim that it will hit stores just before the Man of Steel debuts.

A few days ago Nuke The Fridge reported that a source had told them that a director's cut of The Dark Knight Rises with 30 extra minutes of footage would be released on DVD and Blu-ray. This seems highly unlikely seeing as though Chris Nolan has NEVER created a director's cut for one of his films. Nolan is a very meticulous planner, editing out scenes in pre-production to limit waste. In the past MTV asked the director about deleted scenes, a longer cut of The Dark Knight Rises, and Nolan replied, "With all my films, there are very few deleted scenes, which always disappoints the DVD crowd."

The only reasons to think that a director's cut is possible, would be that the costumes designer, Lindy Hemming, has confirmed that there is footage of Bane that never made it on screen. But secondly and more importantly, we know that the 70mm print of The Dark Knight Rises pushed the limits of IMAX projectors. And you would have to imagine that some scenes were cut just to fit the limitations of IMAX platters.

Today, we got word from the same source that gave us the heads up about the “Directors Cut” about the potential release date for that Blu-ray. So according to that person a new version of “The Dark Knight Rises” will be out on Blu-ray sometime right before Zack Snyder’s, “Man of Steel,” opens in theater. - Nuke The Fridge

The Dark Knight Rises is now playing at your local theater. The film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane, Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake and Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate.

There is really no need for a directors cut for this. Nobody's really needs to be further developed.

@MrEko
That gif is hysterical!

If this is true, then I'm IN!! I would love to see the extra footage of Bane. It might flesh him out a bit more. Either way, I'm buying the damn thing! Deleted scenes would just sweeten the mead.

This is why I hate DVD/blu ray sometimes. It's purely a cash cow for movie studios. "Let's release the movie then in a few months times re-release it with 10 minutes of added footage. The suckers who bought it first time around will buy it again BAHAHAHAHA!!!". Anyone else notice that The Avengers blu ray has bugger all extras? Yeah I reckon another version will come out later on.

I'll believe it when I see it, until then this elusive "Director's Cut" is just a fanboy pipe dream.

I will still buy TDKR, even though there wil probably be no deleted scenes. We all know that Chris Nolan is not a big fan of deleted scenes. That's why we didn't get any delete scenes in Batman Begins or TDK.

Okay. So I'll just rent from Redbox if I want to see Rises again during the time period of Christmas to Summer 2013 (probably won't because I've seen this film a lot already). I can wait till Summer 2013 for the Blu-ray.

one scene that isn't in the film that was in the trailers was the scene with alfred telling bruce how he has failed to protect him by enabling him or some such and he is teary eyed.

Nolan doesn't do director's cuts, because the version you see in cinemas is the cut he chose.
Now it's possible you could see an extended cut, but even that seems unlikely.

bhorwith22 - 9/10/2012, 2:33 AM
Perhaps the Director's Cut will remove some scenes and add others? After all, a Director's Cut is not the same as an extended edition.

Yes, it sucks that movie companies put out multiple versions of films on dvd/blu ray to get us to buy them again. Let's face it, if you are a fan of a film or genre like CBMs they have you by the short hairs. I loved TDKR, so if an extended cut is released I'll buy it again!

meh.. don't see what they can add to make it more interesting.. maybe the back story of bruce wayne getting the healing factor that lets him heal from 8 years of limping after using "Q" fox's bionic knee just once, or get cured of a broken back with a massage, or being stabbed and walk it off... or are they adding another back story to bane and talia, so they are not just a bad copy of renard and elektra king from the world is not enough?
