Who in God's name is John Blake?

Lets talk about the giant purple elephant in the room...

So we haven't brought up who John Blake is in a while. It used to be a daily thing, but I suppose after the pictures and trailers people have assumed to be what he said he was "a gotham city beat cop." But you know I just watched the brand new trailer and Im sorry but it does not look like it to me. Now why would a regular run in mill cop be in almost the entire trailer? He seems to play a very important role in the movie. Now it was almost pretty much confirmed Miranda Tate is actually Talia al Ghul you cant fake those pictures. So heres what I think Nolan took one look at the Avengers and was like dang we need like twenty more characters in my movie to beat them. Nobody is better than Chris at keeping secrets even Two Face was pretty well hidden in The Dark Knight. I knew Harvey Dent was in it but it never showed him turn into Two Face in the ads obviously. So back to Blake somebody I believe on CBM brought up an interesting point that John Blake suspiciously rhymes with Tim Drake a.k.a Robin. But as everyone also knows nobody on here likes Robin at all. I like Robin and I think he has potential but I can see why others disagree. Remember in Nolan we Trust so he probably could do a cool way of introducing a better Robin and I know he said he wasn't going too and that Dick would be in his crib because this is a young Batman but remember kids this movie is after eight years which the two films before could have been over a long period too enough for Boy Wonder to become Man Wonder, see what I did there. There is also rumors of him being Azrael but so far there is not enough proof and he isnt that well known. I also think that he could be a replacement for Batman or at least thats what the trailer suggests. But then again everyone knows Bruce Wayne as Batman the media knows nobody else it would just be weird. But also then again it could be a franchise reboot career starter for JGL. So basically what i think is he is either Robin or a replacement for Batman. Tell me what you think??

Gotham's in Civil War. GCPD Cops: Gordon, Foley, and Blake are the soldiers we follow. Trailer suggest he's joined the police force because Batman inspired him. That makes him a supporter of Batman's "rise".

He could be codenamed Azrael or Nightwing, but I honestly don't see the point. He's a peace officer. He relates with the orphans (Gotham's youth- who are being cheated out of life by Bane's rule). He'll usher in the legend of the dark knight those kids were deprived of when Batman exiled.

The whole point of having Catwoman is to acknowledge the fact of Batman's legacy. I never really understood a BOY/MAN WONDER garnering more interest than a CATWOMAN!

It's almost as bad as wanting Bane in luchador tights over military gear.

John Blake is a cop. Like many of the cops in the film. Like many of important cops in the comics. Played by a rising actor many people may want to pay to see. Trailers are for marketing you know!

"He'll usher in the legend of the dark knight those kids were deprived of when Batman exiled."

By this- I mean: John Blake is going to get close with the youth of Gotham. He's going to share the stories of Batman he grew up with. The stories that inspired him- so that it might inspire them. He's going to spread the legend of Batman.

Ok i suppose he could be just a beat cop but just with all the rumors and new trailer i thought otherwise no need to be rude. But can somebody elaborate where you got this information of John Blake being a Batman inspired fan,

@just1superguy before you go on a tirade, get your facts straight, nolan is a batman fan, real batman fans like robin, nolan said robin wouldn't be featured because this is the young batman, too young for a sidekick, but this is 8 years later, and both nolan and goyer have lied and changed their stance before in interviews, this keeps the movie a surprise for the film, also even though they said he is a cop, so was dick grayson, and azreal( i think), and to be clear, we don't know what is going to happen, so stop acting like you know what will happen, because you don't and you are ruining our fun, what is s wrong with speculation, especially since this one has a tons of evidence to support and debunk it

In No Man's Land, GCPD had a prominent role and were tagging turf with spray paint to mark their controlled area.

When that Batman signal was drawn with chalk, it looks like TDKR will take a similiar route.

He is a cop whom obviously Gordon has trusted with his big secret. Batman is innocent of these crimes that we have to pretend to chase him for committing. That alone makes an otherwise unimportant beat cop role more significant, because he has been brought into the fold. However, knowing Nolan, there probably is something about John Blake's past that will come into play later in the film. Somehow he is connected to what is going on in a deeper way, carrying around gas cans and standing by school buses that might fall off exploding bridges. It would be cool to find out that even if he isn't a Robin character that maybe at some point in the missing 8 years Bruce took him in, because this is an aspect of Bruce's psychology that Nolan has ignored. Like it or not, Batman always has to take in some damn kid and train him. But... has anyone stopped to consider that maybe John Blake is sneaking around because he is somehow connected to Bane or Talia and the League of Shadows? Remember the police executing the DA in Batman Begins? The League did infiltrate all levels of Gotham.

Does anyone else think he might be the kid from Batman Begins, the kid that Batman throws the gadget to and that, later, watches Rachel taser Scarecrow?
HouseSnow
HouseSnow - 5/2/2012, 8:37 PM
yeah i think people are seriously over analyzing his character. i think he is just one of the few good honest cops in gotham. probably gordons protege. he is not replacing batman, he is not azrael and he is not robin. its an interesting write up but i will have to disagree. i think he will just be one of the few people bats can count on aside from alfred, fox, gordon, and eventually cat woman. I'm not even convinced miranda tate is talia al ghul but that is more likely than any of these blake theories
HouseSnow
HouseSnow - 5/2/2012, 8:39 PM
SaveMeCthulhu- that is an interesting theory as well, i can definatley see that, although the only thing i could think that could possibly disprove that would be the fact that the kid had blonde hair, although hair color has been known to change. my brother was blonde as a kid but now has dark brown hair. very interesting, kudos

Nolan said that during the events of Batman Begins, Robin would be in a crib somewhere

There is six months between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight

Eight years between The Dark Knight and Rises

JGL is not playing an 8.5 year old child

Also, tagging/chalking/symbols = No Man's Land

Invented or Not?
John Blake is an invented character that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be playing in The Dark Knight Rises.

Based on a press release, he was described as "a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon."

Thanks to Badass Digest, it looks like John Blake has made an appearance in Batman lore before though -- albeit in a coloring book.

Still, it's a cool find.

Also, courtesy of Bleeding Cool, there is a comic book instance with John Blake, which is also below. If you want to find out more about Bane, another complex character, check out this infographic.

Could John Blake be the son of Thomas Blake, alias Catman?
According to this website, http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Thomas_Blake_%28New_Earth%29 He was part of the Secret Six and another member named, Cheshire tricked him into conceiving a child. There is also a link between Cat woman (who is in this movie) and Thomas Blake/Catman.
Dun Dun Dun! What do you think?

willowy - 7/14/2012, 12:32 PM
Apparently Thomas Blake's son was taken by kidnappers and when he found who took him he found that his son was addoped out to a "normal family" and that he should leave him be. And he never saw his son again. Again, could this be John Blake? A lead in to the next movie? A Super Six movie? This website had alot of info on Catman.

I bet the first commenter here, feels now kinda... cough cough ("SHUT THE [frick] UP! He's just a cop") dumb for saying what he said. Don't be so hot to say things like that.

The mention of John Blake being an orphan from the get good was tip off for me. A lot can be said for his past. Let people like Nolan brothers and Goyer do what they like in within the frame work of the comics. This creative freedom gives new fun perspectives on the stories and characters we know from the comics.

Sit back and just enjoy.

By the way, side note..... Ridley Scott wouldn't say Prometheus was a prequal, and sometimes said it wasn't. He didn't want expectations for the audience and for them to just enjoy the journey. Once watched, hey it's prequel to alien. Fearless, "jet li's last movie", yeah that didn't happen.
