AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY Director Destin Daniel Cretton Confirms WONDER MAN Has Begun Production

The Wonder Man cast is quickly starting to take shape, with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II tapped to play Simon Williams.

There are lots of rumours doing the rounds about who else we'll see in the Disney+ series, though Sir Ben Kingsley is expected to reprise his role MCU as Trevor Slattery. Last week, Demetrius Grosse was confirmed as The Grim Reaper, while we also anticipate seeing Westworld alum Ed Harris make an appearance.

An official announcement may well be imminent, anyway, as Wonder Man producer and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has confirmed shooting is underway on the show.

Standing in front of the iconic Hollywood sign, he captioned the photo, "I love holding cards for @brettsbo," referencing cinematographer Brett Pawlak.

Cretton looks set to have a very busy few years in the MCU because as well as working on Wonder Man, he's been tapped to take the helm of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. There's also been chatter about him directing a Shang-Chi sequel before that and we've heard rumblings it will be titled "The Wreckage of Time."

Andrew Guest serves as Wonder Man's Head Writer, and his credits include hit TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine30 Rock, and Community. As noted, Cretton will executive produce the series, but is expected to also direct a few episodes.

Wonder Man made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of Avengers #9 in 1964. Initially a villain, he was later retconned and became a hero (and an Avenger) in the 1970s. His brother is the Grim Reaper, while it was his brainwaves that were used by Ultron as a basis for The Vision; later, he would join the West Coast Avengers and become a Hollywood star.

Wonder Man is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024. However, given recent reports that the entire Phase 5 slate is going to be spread out a little, there's always a chance it slips into 2025.

So how many shows are in (post-)production by now? Echo, Ironheart, Daredevil, Wonder Man, Agatha and a bunch of animated shows I guess. At the rate they're releasing shows now, I don't see them release all of them before Secret Wars.

@bkmeijer1 - It would have been nice if they could have just canceled one or two of these D+ shows all together. With all the talk of "slowing" down, it seems like these shows are going to be in the hopper for a while.

@antirock - seeing how all these shows are already in production or post-production, I doubt that'll happen.

Could see some of the shows in development (like Nova or Vision Quest) be turned into specials though. Wouldn't otherwise be slowing down indeed

@bkmeijer1 - The fact that there is an Agatha and Vision Quest show in any level of development shows how they are just shitting content out.

Having one or two serialized long-form multi-season shows would have been a better option. Like instead of of doing Hawkeye, WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier, and She-Hulk just get all of those Renner, Olsen, Bettany, Ruffalo, Stan, and Mackie to do an 18 episode serialized show about the remaining Avengers deciding how to move the team on after Endgame.

I wonder if the Wakanda tv show is dropped from development.

@antirock - Agatha and Vision Quest were perfect material for special presentations imo. Same with that Wakanda show (Midnight Angels maybe?)

I don't mind the seperate show though. But I think it could've benefitted from atleast some overarching narrative like Secret Invasion

Leaker on twitter has been spilling lots of stuff re: WW Hulk. Looks like it's happening indeed, Maestro and all. Says Skaar is important so my guess is someone is killing him and Bruce gets crazy.

Plus says Secret invasion is the MCU in its old form.

Here's hoping.

@Fogs - Too early for me to be excited about WWHulk, but Secret Invasion sure seems like it could be a return to form.

@mountainman - Also said something big is coming in June for Hulk fans.

@Fogs - They are obviously building to something Hulk related. Captain America 4 looks like a secret Hulk movie already. Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see WWH announced for 2025.
