WONDER MAN: It Appears The Series Has Almost Completed Post-Production (Despite Having No Premiere Date)

Marvel Studios has quietly been working on Wonder Man for some time now and a new social post from showrunner Andrew Guest suggests the series is close to wrapping post-production. Read on for details...

It appears work on Wonder Man is almost finished, a strong indication it will be released on Disney+ in 2025 alongside Daredevil: Born Again and Ironheart.

While there was no mention of the series at Comic-Con or D23, showrunner Andrew Guest has shared a picture of himself and director/executive producer Destin Daniel Cretton working on "our final mix playback in person at Skywalker Ranch."

No additional details were shared but it's clear Marvel Studios is no longer going to announce or release small screen projects before they're ready. Ironheart, for example, wrapped filming all the way back in 2022.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play Wonder Man, while Demetrius Grosse (Fear the Walking Dead) has been cast as his brother, classic Avengers villain, The Grim Reaper.

Last month, we sat down with Grosse to discuss his role in Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot and asked if there was anything he could tease about his MCU debut.

"Yes, and I think people are going to be intrigued by the dynamic between Simon Williams and Eric Williams as much as they’re excited about the dynamic between Grim Reaper and Wonder Man," the actor told us. "This series is gonna be a very, very different kind of show, but pleasantly so."

Check out a screenshot of Guest's post below.

Marvel Studios has revealed very little about Wonder Man, though we know Sir Ben Kingsley is reprising his Iron Man 3 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings role as Trevor Slattery. Byron Bowers recently joined the cast, while Ed Harris, Bob Odenkirk, and Courtney Cox are among those rumoured to appear.

Stella Meghie (The Photograph) is directing multiple episodes, with Cretton reportedly tapped to helm the first two instalments. Wonder Man has previously been described as a "superhero satire" and "a love letter to LA and the industry."

Wonder Man made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of Avengers #9 in 1964. Initially a villain, he was later retconned and became a hero (and an Avenger) in the 1970s. The Grim Reaper is his brother, and his brainwaves were used by Ultron as a basis for The Vision; later, he joined the West Coast Avengers and became a Hollywood star.

Wonder Man doesn't currently have a confirmed premiere date.

@ProfessorWhy - Why, professor? I don't know much about tigra. Apart from looking cool, what makes her story worth showing in the MCU?

It's Disney+, so there is no hurry on choosing a premier date.

How many cases of white women with black men? Because that's a directly comparable case to the Finn/Rey one.

Why defend Disney at all when they haven't even tried to row it back as far as Rey/Finn go?

Considering no one at Disney seems to want to actually embrace AOS/Netflix shows (seemed to have be put in a situation for Daredevil to get that close), I'm not confident that that should be given to them.

@dagenspear - I would like to point out Marvel (owned by Disney) has now officialy stated Netflix is canon to the sacred timeline, all of it is canon to the MCU not just DD, which thus includes white Jessica Jones getting with Black Luke Cage for instance and one of many such examples specific to Marvel Studios films and TV of relationships between two characters of differing race...

...and anyway the Netflix shows were still made by Marvel TV that was still owned by Disney, same with AoS as in still made by companies owned by Disney and all available to watch on Disney plus.

Again, this isn't defending Disney, just pointing out your wrong that Disney wouldn't for the reasons your stating even if they didn't follow through in the specific example in Star Wars films with Rey and Finn after initialy setting up the idea that they WERE going to become a couple (which again suggests that Disney were allowing creators to go there with it thus indicative maybe they wouldn't go against it if that was the path writers/directors went down).

I stand by the point however that opting to change how Vision was created and not including Wonder Man in WandaVision is more why it is highly unlikely to occur as wouldn't make any narrative sense and would have to be heavily forced with no upside to go there at this point considering her current status.

Cool!!.

I’m intrigued by this especially since it’s apparently going to be a Marvel Spotlight show which means it’s not just going to be more standalone but also “mature” aswell…

Also I like Yahya Abdul Mateen and think he could pull off Simon Williams!!.

@dagenspear -
Well, because there is a small but vocal community of comic fans who love to get all bent out of shape over things like this and heads exploded. It was a massive fake out that wasn't revealed until the movie came out. As it turned out general audiences loved the movie while a tiny cadre of hardliners in comment sections vowed to give up Marvel over Trevor.

Setting up something like that took time, effort, secrecy etc so the sheer amount of effort involved in the fake out qualifies as a sick burn. The likeable part, well, that's just my sense of humor.

It being Disney, I'm think it's not too likely that this Wonder Man will have a romance with this precious little Wanda.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 8/26/2024, 7:40 AM
@dagenspear - Depends on when it ends up being released, but as of right now, the status quo in the MCU is that Wanda is believed to have been crushed to death beneath Wundagore Mountain. It would be kind of odd for her to show up as a romantic interest in this show.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 8/26/2024, 8:18 AM
@clintthahamster - That's not what I meant when I said that it being Disney is less likely to do it.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 8/26/2024, 9:24 AM
@dagenspear - Were less likely to do it the second they opted to not have Vision created using his brain wave patterns and double down on not doing in WV with not including Wonder Man then in any way, shape or form.

As such being Disney owning Marvel has little to do with it either way if they were or weren't going there and all the better to my mind not doing so as far from the most interesting aspects of Wanda's backstory.

Any romance within a CBM needs a narrative reason to exist for it to land well, that was never likely to be the case with that specific relationship UNLESS doing the complex thing of Vision and Wonder Man sharing the same brainwave patterns.

dagenspear - 8/26/2024, 8:17 PM
