Marvel Studios' Wonder Man Disney+ series is currently finalizing its cast ahead of a tentative production start later this month, and a new logline for the show should give fans a better idea of what to expect from this first live-action take on the Marvel Comics character.

The synopsis (via Daniel RPK) reads: "[The] story of two actors struggling to make it in the Hollywood of the MCU, [asking] the big question: what does Hollywood look like in a world where super heroes are real?"

The project is also described as “a love letter to LA and the industry," and producers Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest are said to be going for a tone similar to shows such as Silicon Valley, Dave, and Barry.

The two actors are (presumably) brothers Simon and Eric Williams. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will play the former, while a recent rumor indicated that Demetrius Grosse (Fear the Walking Dead, The Rookie, Lovecraft Country) was in talks to play the man who will ultimately become the villainous Grim Reaper.

We also know that Ben Kingsley's Trevor Slattery will appear, and Mindhunters star Lauren Glazier recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

Stella Meghie (The Photograph) had been tapped to direct multiple episodes.

It sounds like the previous report that Wonder Man was being developed as a Hollywood satire was most likely accurate. What do you guys make of the show being taken in this direction? Drop us a comment down below.

@GhostDog - i hope so...however, if there is, i'm sure some commenters on this sight will complain about any male nudity...cuz it is unfair that men have to be viewed like meat, since it always happens that way...lol

Looking forward to it. Cretton and Yahya sound like a dream team. I think Yahya is going to be great and can't wait to see his performance.

The problem is that Hollywood can’t make fun of itself in the right ways. Everything has to be a “love letter” rather than great satirical critique. Silicon Valley did this for the tech sector. The office did it for office jobs. Parks and Rec did it for government jobs.

If it can actually critique Hollywood in interesting ways, this could be a neat premise. But with how full of themselves most writers and producers are, it likely won’t have anything interesting to say.

@mountainman - Yeah man...I remember seeing an ad for paper a few years ago from a paper company and thinking...wait, they're serious? Thought it was a sketch.

@mountainman - if they can somehow capture the magic of any of the shows you mentioned I'll be ecstatic.

But to your point; Hollywood really loves to romanticize itself.

@RedFury - Even Entourage, which did have some great critiques and satires, always kept the gloves on and made sure to still put Hollywood up on a pedestal.

Curb Your Enthusiasm does a decent job, but it’s an over the top comedy. It would be nice to see a project do an effective satire on Hollywood for once.

@mountainman - and it's not like they don't have a century worth of dirt they could use as inspiration for plot lines and situations. A Hollywood satire should practically write itself.

Idk why but getting the "struggling actor" premise confirmed suddenly made me way more hyped for this. I'm real excited.

i hope they balance the tone their going for with the super heroics as well. maybe not have us wait as long before he gets to being a hero. if they wait four episodes then a valid criticism of these shows will re emerge ala moon knight while i liked the show, there definitely could have been more moon knight action,

@supermanrex - I think that's been my biggest gripe with the MCU television as well; the lack of super heroics. It's the main reason I don't really watch any super hero tv shows outside of the MCU. The lack of budget really robs the genre of those amazing action sequences it's built on.

I was hopeful that the higher budgets of MCU tv would deliver on the action. But sadly that doesn't seem to be the case with all the projects. Especially with Moon Knight like you said. That was the one I was really looking forward to in terms of action. And we got so many cut aways from fights, it was frustrating.
