BLACK PANTHER 2: Marvel Studios Executive Debunks Claims They Will Use A Digital Double Of Chadwick Boseman

Recently, a pretty wacky rumour started doing the rounds that Marvel Studios plans to create a digital double of the late Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther 2, but Victoria Alonso has now cleared things up.

There's been a lot of speculation about what Marvel Studios will do about Black Panther 2 following the tragic death of actor Chadwick Boseman, with one popular theory being that the actor will be recreated with a digital double (presumably to kill the character off in the opening few minutes).

That rumour was actually shared online last week, but during a recent interview with Clarin, Executive Vice President of Marvel Studios, Victoria Alsonso, cleared things up.

"No," she responded when asked about the possibility of a digital double. "There's only one Chadwick, and he's not with us. Our king, unfortunately, has died in real life, not just in fiction, and we are taking a little time to see how we return to the story and what we do to honor this chapter of what has happened to us that was so unexpected, so painful, so terrible, really."

"[We] have to think carefully about what we are going to do, and how, and think about how we are going to honor the franchise," Alonso concluded.

Recasting the character for Black Panther 2 is certainly one possibility, especially as Ryan Coogler has penned a screenplay revolving around T'Challa. However, following Boseman will be no easy feat, and many actors will likely be hesitant to even attempt to match what he did with the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Another option is killing T'Challa off before the sequel starts, with Shuri taking over the mantle (just as she once did in the comic books).

The latter would require the screenplay to be completely rewritten, though, and it all depends what Marvel Studios wants to do with the franchise and how they can best honour Boseman's legacy.

They have digitally recreated plenty of other deceased actors recently (all in bad taste imo). Repurposing previously unused footage is another trick they've tried, with subpar results.

I don't know how they go forward with BP2 other than recasting or passing the mantle, but digital recreation even in a few scenes would be terrible imo.

@Feralwookiee - Why is it in bad taste to bring somebody like Carrie Fisher back though? If the person wanted to be involved in the film and sadly couldn't I don't see what's wrong as long as their estate is paid money.

@Nightwing1015 - especially if their estate agrees with it.

@Feralwookiee - No that was Star Wars and Kathleen Kennedy that decided that was a good idea, but Feige and his team (especially after seeing how poorly it turned out for SW) would not do something like that.

I fully expected the role to be recast at this point after time has past and they will honor Chad o an extraordinary level in the franchise going forward.

@Nightwing1015 - It's just an opinion. I think it's creepy and disrespectful, mostly because it's done without the deceased person's CONSENT. Just my 2 cents.

@LongMayHeReign - I agree with you that Feige probably has more sense than that. I hope so.

@Feralwookiee - Him seeing that Captain Marvel needs directorial improvement regardless of it's box office success should tell you everything you need to know about Feige!

@Feralwookiee - But the images of actors are used without consent all the time though? Part of being an actor is that you sell your likeness to be reproduced forever.

I'm sure Chris Ecclestone isn't happy about being in all those Dr Who comic books. He probably hates seeing his face on them everywhere. But that's what he signed up for. So Carrie Fisher definitely did consent to that when she signed up for the sequel trilogy
