BLACK PANTHER Star Winston Duke Campaigns For M'Baku To Be The Sequel's Main Villain

M'Baku actor Winston Duke is busy promoting his new Netflix caper Spenser Confidential, and the actor has now made a case for why M'Baku deserves to be the main villain in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther II!

Winston Duke ended up stealing the show in 2018's Black Panther, and his brief return in Avengers: Infinity War was a highlight for a lot of comic book fans out there. The leader of the Jabari tribe wasn't a victim of The Snap, and there's since been speculation that he ruled over Wakanda during T'Challa's five-year absence.

Promoting Netflix's Spenser Confidential before its arrival on the streaming platform tomorrow, Duke made a case for why M'Baku might be a good choice of bad guy for Black Panther II.

"[M'Baku] is a hero, but he has so much going on," the actor tells Screen Rant. "I think what makes a really great villain is that they have the power of seeing things their own way, and they can define their own circumstances."

"And that's what's really cool about all the MCU villains so far as well. Loki always sees things his own way, and he chooses when he's going to be an ally or an antagonist. Thanos always had the power of self-definition. That's his greatest strength. It wasn't the rings, it wasn't his superpower or the fighting. It’s that he made his mind up and said, 'This is how I define justice.'"

"Because he wasn't a bad guy; he's just a dude who was seeking ultimate justice and balance. That's not bad. But he defined it himself, and all the really great villains that Marvel interrogates always have that ability, so they can go anywhere,"
Duke concluded.

He makes a convincing argument for why M'Baku should go to war with Black Panther again in 2022, and a leading role for the breakout character isn't something anyone would complain about.

No way. M'Baku fought for Wakanda against Thanos' army in Wakanda. And then he came back to fight for the universe in Avengers Endgame. He is a hero and should remain that way. He plays well as the voice of reason type of character to combat T'challa's points of view.

I like M'Baku more as T'Challa's eternal rival rather than a flat out villain. Can't wait to see what Ryan cooks up for BP2!

He can replace W’Kabi’s role from the first movie as T’Challa’s friend. It could lead to some great conflict due to their differences.

However, he helped the Avengers save the world. Ain’t no way he can be a straight up villain again

I think I would much prefer Zenzi and Tetu from Coates' run rather than Namor or Doctor Doom.

@soberchimera - Nothing from Coates run needs to make it to this movie.

@Necropolitan - Well, I think a telepath and a dude who can control plants would be more interesting than just another dude in a panther costume.

He isn't wrong in his reasonment, but going back to him being even just his douche-y self (he wasn't exactly a villain there) from the first movie would be considered a step back on his growth.

Didn't Chadwick say he knew what black panther 2 would be about or am I getting him mixed up?

I know Coogler is hard at work with this one he tends to get lost in his process. I have ultimate faith in him and marvel.

And nah to M'Baku being the villain. T'Chala already whooped his ass once
