Love it or hate it the controversial 1990 direct to VHS and Laser Disc, low budget classic Captain America is finally, officially coming to blu ray. Shout Factory(G.i Joe, Power Rangers, among many other oop cartoons and tv shows) plans to distribute this lovable cheese fest on blu this May 21st.

In this cut The Red Skull defeats Captain America in 1941, but the super hero is thrown into suspended animation. Captain America is revived 50 years later to face the Red Skull one more time. Exciting i know, i personally find it to be a fun throwback and if not taken seriously, a good time.

No word on the quality or restoration as of yet, but there have been a few different cuts available for some time. I bought the vhs as a kid, and two different rips of the movie on bootleg dvd a few years back. Last year the film found a home on MGMS DVD-R MOD program, as well as a directors cut from the director himself Albert Pyun via his website http://www.pyun.com/

Captain America stars Matt Salinger, Ronny Cox, Darren McGavin, and Ned Beatty. The release will be available for purchase online and in stores across the nation on May 21.

I love love love Shout! Factory. They always deliver.

And aside from the fake ears, this costume was pretty damn good. Better in some ways than Avengers.

pretty much a perfect cap costume. 100x better than the costume we got in the avengers.

Cap's and the flash's from the tv show were fantastic in the nostalgia to book factor :)

Yeah, this was fun. Plus JD Salinger's son. I hope this has the extended version included.

@parkerray, I don't think it will, Albert pyun released the directors cut personally and from what I hear the footage was in very rough shape
