At the beginning of Captain America: Civil War, we learn that Hydra has kept Bucky Barnes under intense mental conditioning for years, utilizing certain words from a red book to activate his 'Winter Soldier' programming. Some perceptive fans couldn't help but notice that one of these words was "Homecoming", which also happens to be the subtitle of the recently-announced Spider-Man solo film. When quizzed on the trigger word's significance in a new interview with Cinemablend, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely denied any sort of connection between the two. "They’re rhythmic and enigmatic," said McFeely. "I can’t remember if we listened to them in Russian to hear if they sounded suitably intimidating, we must have. Because they were really melodic; I’m not sure we would have gone with them [if they weren’t]. But we wanted ones when you read them on the screen you’d have some reaction to it. Like ‘Duress,’ and ‘Freight Car.’ It’s really just us coming up with stuff. There’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to it."

Given the amount of easter eggs and connections scattered throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it can be easy to find threads that seemingly connect, even if they're just coincidences. "When you’re making so many movies, everybody is looking for connections," said McFeely. "It’s absolutely natural to think, ‘Oh my god, they’ve got their fingers on everything, and everything means something!’ And often it means something, but not always."

"That’s also part of the fun," continued Markus. "Sometimes unintentionally you can create a connection and then play with it later – even if you didn’t mean it that way in the first place! This one… it’s simply not."

Despite this, there were still plenty of goodies scattered throughout Civil War for fans. What was your favourite? Sound off below!

If anything it's just a nod or Easter egg to the new Spidey film. I don't want any of this 'destiny' BS like Amazing Spiderman had.

@Antoin - They said it wasn't though, lol. Just a happy coincidence.

I don't think there'll be any retreads with how they tackled the ASM series. It got to stupid levels in the sequel.
