Frank Grillo Hints At Crossbones' Future After CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

If you saw Captain America: Civil War, you'll know that Crossbones didn't exit the film very gracefully. Now, in a new interview, Frank Grillo has cryptically hinted at what the future holds for the villain...

Fans of villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe were let down in Captain America: Civil War when Crossbones was unceremoniously killed in the opening minutes of the film. While his death and the subsequent damage from his suicide vest was the spark that kicked off the film's conflict, it was assumed that yet another villain with potential for recurrence was killed before being allowed to develop. However, according to actor Frank Grillo, we may not have seen the last of Crossbones.

While promoting the latest installment of the Purge on ABC news, Grillo gave a cryptic hint regarding Crossbones' fate. "You think he dies, don't you? Did you see the body? What did you see? That happened last time. I'm not saying anything except that...You didn't see a body." Those are pretty confident words considering we watched the character take a bath in an explosion. Of course, Crossbones came close to death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well, though this time seemed to indicate a bit more finality. Do you want to see Crossbones make a return to the MCU? Sound off below!

Weird...I can't see how he survived that explosion. Will we be seeing a talking head?

Grillo is just playing about. Crossbones is dead as Dillinger.

@RorMachine - Yup!

I'm still in the group of bitter people who want great potential recurring villains to stop being killed off.

Zola (seemingly). Strucker. Crossbones.

@MattBellissimo - We got Zemo and Loki though! Haha...Heh... *exasperated sigh*

@NovaCorpsFan - Zemo rekindled my faith that we can at least have a villain besides Loki and Thanos stay on as big bads. That being said, I have nothing against Loki, I just feel there was a lot of him at once. I'm glad he was taken off the table after Thor 2, makes me excited to see him again in Ragnarok.

@MattBellissimo - True. I too hav nothing against Loki but I got worried he'd never stop being the villain of Thor movies. Glad he's hung back since TDW.

Zemo is an odd one for me. I don't know where he could pop up again. I'd be happy to see him, but he tried to commit suicide at the end of Civil War. That's not something people just decide not to bother with any more. Maybe once the Avengers are back together his ideologies would be rekindled? We can only hope.

@MattBellissimo - i get the feeling that red skull will be back, and played once again by Hugo. I think he'll swallow his douchey pride and agree to play the character again now that these movies are more popular than jesus.

@RorMachine - Dillinger died? When did this happen? Was it on the internet?

@KillEmAll - I'm pretty sure she tried using her widow sting on him, and he can't feel it because of his severe burns.

He looked like an interesting villain, too bad marvel killed another one...is there any left besided thanos?

@sixthsense - Loki and Zemo

Technically Zola was a computer, so I'm sure they could reasonably bring him back if they wanted to.

@sixthsense - Loki is the only one worth a damn that's left. Abomination is still locked away under Thunderbolt Ross' thumb. So they could bring him in to fight Hulk while Thanos deals with everyone else.

No chance in hell is he still alive. Marvel asks the audience to suspend disbelief a lot, but not so much to see a guy who had a bomb blow up on him in a contained environment to come back from the dead.

Grillo is great and Crossbones is interesting enough to want to see again. Sort of getting tired of the whole complex of "Death doesn't mean anything in the MCU/Marvel kills all their villains/Navel gazing" arguments. I absolutely love the character work that has been done throughout phases one and two, cementing Marvel's heroes as very engaging protagonists, but it's time to throw the gauntlet down and have some harrowing villains drag those happy-go-lucky mother[frick]ers through the ringer.

@Spock0Clock - Zemo was a good start. I'm just a little annoyed with classic characters with great potential being offed before having a chance to shine. Strucker was a massive piss-off. Zola has an avenue open for a return and I got mad seeing Crossbones' fate....Grillo was engaging in his limited screentime and clearly loves playing the character. Would have been great to see him as the MCU's gun-for-hire.

@MattBellissimo - Even if it isn't very comic-faithful, I would love to see one of the Rosses putting together a Thunderbolts team wearing masks to conceal their real identity, with Zemo as Citizen V (or something). It's a little Suicide Squad-y, but it's pretty much the only way I think you get Bruhl's Zemo back in the game.

I generally don't mind any of the specific villains getting short-changed, but the cumulative effect is making it an issue that needs to be addressed. Unfortunately for me, all of the villains I love are with other studios, so I don't even have a meaningful wishlist of who could really twist the screws on the Avengers in the future...
