THE MARVELS Director Has Pitched A Third Movie, But Thinks Kevin Feige May Have A "Whole Other Plan"

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta has revealed that she's shared some ideas for a third movie with Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige, but isn't sure how interested he is in making it a reality...

Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, doesn't arrive in theaters until November, but it sounds like director Nia DaCosta is already thinking about a third movie... provided she can convince Marvel Studios to give it the greenlight.

During a recent interview with Total Film (conducted before the strikes), The Candyman helmer was asked about the potential for a threequel, and revealed that she has pitched quite a few ideas to Kevin Feige, but thinks he may have other plans for Carol Danvers and her cosmically-powered counterparts.

"I'll pitch Kevin 17 versions of what can happen with all these women, and why and how, and this and that. And he's like, 'Okay, girl', and sometimes I think I've really got a movie going after this. And then other times, I'm like, 'Oh, they have this whole other plan that I'm not a part of.'"

DaCosta adds that she would like to see Danvers, Kamala Khan, and Monica Rambeau move forward in the MCU as a trio "because they're really great together."

We don't know for sure what Feige has in store for these heroes, but the rumored Young Avengers project would take Ms. Marvel out of the equation.

Of course, another film will most likely depend on how well The Marvels does at the box office. DaCosta is fully aware of this, noting that the upcoming sequel will need to strike a chord with audiences to stand out from the recent crop of female-led blockbusters.

"In terms of women-led films and women as superheroes in particular, and excitement around that, I think it's really just about whether or not the movie's good. Especially now we have more and more films that are female-led that are action-based or superhero- based."

"In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”

The film also stars Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon. Nia DaCosta directs, and Kevin Feige is the producer. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos and Matthew Jenkins serve as executive producers. The screenplay is by Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells.

The Marvels hits U.S. theaters on November 10th, 2023.

She’s saying all the right things, but I’m sure the usual weirdos on here will find a way to go on some lame “anti-woke” tirade

@PlusUltra - I mean, the movie is destined to fail. Not only does it star three women, TWO of them are not white. Forced wokeness diversity agenda is clear.

@PlusUltra - your bias is showing, like always. This movie looks like shit, an after school special for 500 million

@bobevanz - LORD willing, you don't decide it looks bad.

@bobevanz - Did I comment on what the movie looks like, or what the director was saying in the article? Reading comprehension is EVERYTHING

@bobevanz - I still can't believe that this movie, which looks like utter cheap shit from the trailers, cost more than Infinity War or Endgame.

I know people will say, but "muh pandemic", but still HALF A BILLION DOLLARS for this shit?
If that budget is legit, this movie will HAVE TO clear at least $1 billion just to start making a profit.
I see Marvels literally making HALF of what the first one did, which will be another huge flop for Disney.

"Ok girl"

- Kevin Fiege (apparently)

@Ryguy88 - Admittedly I did question that. It makes Feige sound like he thinks that's how women talk to eachother and he's trying to emulate it or something. lol.

@Ryguy88 - If any guy used "Ok girl" in the workplace, expect a call from HR for "mansplaining"

Thats when a Male actually has to tell a young female worker to do her job or actually teach them something. Thats how F'd society is right now.

@Ryguy88 - LORD willing, I think that's likely. But the paraphrasing of whatever he really said, I found amusing.

@UrbanTheEmcee - Superhero narratives have always dealt with real-life subject matter, heavy themes and sociopolitical subtext. They’ve always been woke by the terms original definition, but that term now, especially around here, is just a derisive stand-in for diversity and inclusion, which has always been an intolerance issue for a certain subset group of people.

Fact is, the underlying message in these movies have never been a problem. Giving others a platform, all this diversity and inclusion, that’s where the issue lies. Because it never occurred to this group of people, as nothing ever does, that they’re not the only people who matter, because the idea that a machine like Hollywood would cater to anyone but them is intolerable.

@PlusUltra - Agreed. Thanks for answering. I'm always interested in individual thought. Sensitivity has made the world react in black and white. The shades of gray are where I find reality. We are complex beings.

@dagenspear - No assumptions. Real world experience. DEI and HR are going to be the downfall of for profit companies until they clear that divisive poison out.

Disney providing unrivalled entertainment at the moment. Loving seeing train wreck after train wreck culminating in its final humiliation - Snow Tan and the seven non binary refugees.
