Hey, look everyone! Marvel replacing another famous, money making character with a minority! BRILLIANT! Hey, this comic can sell 5 copies like Ms Marvel and Female Thor combined!!! Diversity for diversity sake is a failure. Comics are profitable only when original..Marvel comics division dies in 10 years at the latest.

MattBellissimo

Yeah who needs diversity? Who needs change? Let's just keep everything the same 'til the end of time. God I'm so sick of these purist whiners. Don't like it? Don't read it.

I'm actually looking forward to this...if anyone should take up Logan's mantle it's X23. Also the DMX cover is badass.

I'm all for diversity, I'm one of the few Star Wars fans not complaining Finn is a Jedi . I just don't like seeing one of my favorite characters warped into this PC garbage
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:10 AM
I don't know about everyone else, but I read comics for the stories, not because a character is a woman or a man or black or white or f*cking green. Who the hell cares? Give me a good story.
campblood
campblood - 11/5/2015, 5:16 AM
It's called identifying with the character , some people enjoy it.

And on that note . No.

MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:16 AM
Fans act like a character taking up a well-known mantle is some new and reviled thing. I don't see people bitching about Wally West. Or Dick Grayson/Azrael/Comissioner Gordon. Or Bucky Barnes. Those are 'classics'. Why? Cause they had great stories. But god forbid it's a woman taking up the mantle of a well known hero. Nope, too PC for anyone to handle. Who the hell cares? Just give me a good story.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:19 AM
"One of the few fans not complaining." Lol. No one with any sense cares if Finn is a Jedi or not. (I don't think he's a Jedi period but that's another story for another day). At the end of the day, I don't care if X-23 is Wolverine, Spider-woman or Green-f*cking Lantern. Give me a good story, the rest follows. Dont like it? Don't read it. The world keeps on spinning.

MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:25 AM
@miklonus X-23 has been her own character for years. Doesn't change who she is just because she takes up the mantle of another hero. It didn't change who Bucky Barnes was when he became Captain America. It didn't change who Wally West was when he became the Flash. Character development is character development, regardless of what mask a character wears. X-23 is defined by more than just a Wolverine costume. If that costume allows for more development for her character and better stories, I'm all in support of that.
campblood
campblood - 11/5/2015, 5:26 AM
Exactly, instead of shoehorning her into the mantle of wolverine just keep her as X-23 and give her a good comic with good stories
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:28 AM
People act like this is all permanent forever and ever, when has that EVER been the case in comic books? Maybe people will be encouraged to read more about x-23 from before she was Wolverine...maybe they'll do so after she stops being Wolverine. Why is this such a bad thing? As far as I'm concerned if people are reading these books, that's a good thing. Status quo is boring.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:29 AM
It's not like they made Peter Parker Wolverine. X-23 IS A FEMALE LOGAN. Were people bitching about that from when she was first created? No. Give her the costume of the person she was cloned from? Heaven forbid.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 5:30 AM
In the end, you are all entitled to your opinions. Doesn't make you wrong. Read whatever it is you want to read. But for me, personally, I'll always choose story over everything.

First, Women are not a minority. Second, what fresh new minority comic hero done right that is at the top of comic sales? Plus this is not a character change, Logan is still Logan, he just don't go by the Wolverine. I don't think anybody was pissed when Daken took the mantle.

Also, I see that people on this site only complain when Marvel make a change, I never see any backlash toward DC for the same thing.

Wally West
Superman
Huntress
Onyx
Connor Hawke
Aqua Lad
Hawk girl or woman (I don't know her name)
Mister Terrific
Many more if I looked into it. I just don't understand how can one be mad at one and not the other for the same thing. Just to let you know I hate that they killed Wolverine and brought him back as old Logan, but there were many people on this sight that wanted him gone. So you get him gone and someone else takes his name and you guys are still mad?

The answer for the lack of backlash? Most of those characters are men. ;)

Respect your opinion but I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree. Though I appreciate the respectful response. You don't see that much on here. Falcon was torched when he took the mantle of Captain America and Miles was hated when he don the webbed mask. Yet people were okay with Robin becoming Batman and the Black Superman on Earth 2? Both companies treat their roster the same way but DC is considered the company that does diversity right. Is there something here I'm missing?
GoogleWasMyIdea
GoogleWasMyIdea - 11/5/2015, 6:03 AM
In all seriousness though, wtf is gonna happen to these characters once the originals come back? If they just disappear into obscurity again, then there's no doubt this was all for naught. Hope they go the Khamela Kahn route and keep her, but I don't really know what they'll rename Wolverine (Logan) into. (And don't give me that crap about OLD MAN LOGAN, 'cause I doubt he's REALLY here to stay)

@MattBellissimo Kudos about good stories, that's what really matters

Really can't wait for this book too, also everyone arguing that she shouldn't take the mantle. clearly don't remember the fact that Marvel can't/doesnt want to make new mutants in the comics so in the case that they make a hit new character, Fox can't use it in the films. They've probably had this planned since last years Death of Wolverine.
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 11/5/2015, 6:10 AM
@LEOSTRATOR

You're not missing anything bud. But don't forget. DC was torched when they made Alan Scott gay. Bigotry is bigotry. I don't think it's anything about "Marvel vs. DC" as youre suggesting. Companies have proven time and time again that story trumps race or gender. Which is why Miles ended up being so well-received after all the stupid backlash.

*Sigh* I think people have a problem with this because (including me) because they do it constantly like Kamala Khan Ms Marvel, Falcon America, Lady Thor, Hong Kong Hulk, Silk, Spider-Gwen?? Like in the last year and a half we've had a surge of all these so called "progressive" characters. It starts to look like a gimmick that you just roll your eyes to after you get to a trans version of Beast.

The other problem is it's inexplicable, doesn't make any sense which makes it look even more like a gimmick.
Miles Morales is cool because he was literally passed the torch by Peter Parker, before Dick Grayson could become Batman, Batman had to DIE! And he had to fight for that right as well, it wasn't handed to him, he earned it. Also he wasn't a random mate of Bruce's or someone Bruce happened to date for a while, he was his portage, his partner, his sidekick and best friend, the relationship was there, no one knows Batman better than Dick Grayson besides Alfred.
Sam Wilson as Cap works too because he's great friends with Cap just like Bucky, but the problem I have is that Sam already has his own identity that they should've merged with Cap and called it Captain Falcon or American Eagle. But it's not a big deal because Captain America is more of a symbol rather than an identity, just like Batman.

Those Legacy characters work because wait for it...wait for it.... they make sense! They were built up for years and years. X-23 what she had a few scraps with Logan, now she's believable as the new Wolverine? Clearly not.
Ms Marvel/Captain Marvel/Spider-Man/Wolverine/Hulk arent symbols, they're identities. And if you take up someone else's identity, you just lose your own and you become a character stuck in their shadow.

You don't see Jaden Smith start calling himself Will Smith do you? Or the new Fresh Prince? When Dr Dre signed Eminem, Eminem became his own thing, he didn't call him self Dr Dre the 2nd. Even She-Hulk is completely different to The Incredible Hulk in many ways. She's her own character. And her story makes sense.

How many people are you gonna have, have the same powers?

Well said. I'm honestly baffled to see people complaining about changes like this for any character. People will find a reason to complain about anything... but X-Men? I mean, from the start its agenda has been pretty damn liberal so balking at them being "PC" with any X-Men character is... odd.

Personally, I'm glad to see Logan replaced. I stopped being a fan of him like 15 years back at this point, but Schism really sealed it for me.

Also: holy shit... Laura is lookin' buff as Hell.

I like her look here--this is actually how I'd picture Laura in the MC2 timeline, taking over for the retired Logan and mentoring her 'niece' Wild Thing.

Out of all the "New age" "gender swap" "ethnicity change" replacements they have four top teir marvel characters thus far, HERS is the one with the most potential in my opinion.

.......Just why the dialogue like "I'M THE ALL NEW WOLVERINE!"

I love the let a character be their own character line. As if comics aren't full of legacy characters. Barry Allen and Hal Jordan aren't the original Flash and Green Lantern. Ted Kord isn't the original Blue Beetle. DC had Wally West become the Flash. For years he was The Flash. At least give the character a chance and let the creative teams do their thing.
