It's another glorious Wednesday here at the offices of UTF and after spending endless hours (and innumerable glasses of sweet 'Murican bourbon) pouring through our weekly pull list, we've decided on the TOP 5 INDIE COMICS OF THE WEEK...

If you have any recommendations of your own or would like a chance to review comics for UTF, send us a shout at [email protected]

Saga #10

Saga returns with Saga #10, bringing the usual joys of science fiction, fantasy and a narrating baby. In short, everything the average would reader could expect or want.

Thief of Thieves #12

Thief Of Thieves #12 highlights the best of what the series can offer. Between brilliant set-pieces that play well into the genre, an interesting father and son dynamic and all variants of cat-and-mouse plot lines, Thief Of Thieves #12 keeps the action and suspense high on every page.

GODZILLA #10

It goes without saying by now that I am a huge Godzilla fan, so I get to review these comics in a special way. The Ongoing sadly has been all over the place in terms of quality. One thing's for sure, it has ranged from consistently average to good. The problems include a poorly developed human cast, the story was generally uninteresting sometimes, and Godzilla himself was just a plot device. This final act has been getting some pretty big hype. The first part was great, but the second was sadly very average when  compared to its predecessor. The humor with the human characters is sometimes too quirky. Despite being disappointed in the past, I had high expectations for this tenth issue. Thankfully it has surpassed them, this might just be the best issue from the series yet. (Rodan is back!)

Locke And Key Omega #3

With the exception of that one extraneous scene, Locke & Key: Omega #3 is another great issue that marches us inevitably closer to  Tyler, Kinsey, Bode, and Dodge's final bow. I'm both eagerly anticipating and dreading the next issue, when it looks as though all hell will really break loose.

Jericho Season 4 #2

When attempting to continue a canceled property in another medium there are certain hurdles that need to be to dealt with.  First and foremost is the translation of the previously continuing narrative.  By that I mean, how much do you actually bring over to a potentially new or uninitiated audience?  For each creative team the answer is guaranteed to be different and in this case it's rather self evident.

Saga was great as always. Behind on Locke & Key, I read in trade.

Saga is great read and is extremely underrated. Did not know they were doing a Jericho comic series, I might have to check that out.

Love this article/feature here! it's hard to think of some of these as "Indie" but the publishers certainly don't have the lion share of coverage.

i don't mean to unintentionally keep pimping this one, but I discovered DEADHORSE recently, and it's the most fun TRULY indie comic I've read in ages. For fans of Darwyn Cooke and when Lost had greatness

@earzmundo

I usually see a comment or two complaining about how these aren't "indie comics", so I'm accustomed to explaining.

Indie doesn't simply mean a backyard publisher, self publishing, or adult themed comics.

It simply refers to the comics creators that broke away from the big 2 and started their own comics, whether licensing classic titles or creating their own.

Here's a pretty good list of them
