BATMAN #50 Actually Contained A Far More Shocking Moment Than The Wedding - SPOILERS

DC Comics decided to spoil Batman #50 earlier this week but writer Tom King wasn't kidding when he said there's a much larger plan in place because the issue featured another unexpected twist. Take a look!

Much to the chagrin of comic book fans, DC decided to spoil the fact that Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle don't get married in Batman #50 earlier this week before the issue went on sale. In the comic, we learn that Catwoman is convinced not to go ahead with things by her old friend Holly Robinson but when she's later returned to Arkham Asylum, an unexpected twist is revealed about her true intentions.

We learn that Bane is the one who orchestrated the plan to end their relationship not because a happy Caped Crusader would mean the end of Batman but because he wants to break him emotionally in a bid to finally bring the hero down. Shockingly, he seems to have gathered an entire group of villains by his side, including The Joker, The Riddler, and most surprisingly, the Flashpoint version of Batman!

This could be a sign that he's been behind everything that's happened to Batman in these first fifty issues from Tom King and it's going to be very interesting seeing where things go from here, especially as we know the writer has a 100-issue game plan for the Dark Knight. This comice was just to bait us. Tom King and DC can do better.
But since Geoff Johns left the handling of th DC Universe back into the hands of Dan DiDido, I'm not surprised.
What do you expect from the same guy who thought the New 52 was a great idea?

Bane is one of the worst reasoned characters in the Batman universe. Initially, when he wanted to break the Bat, he first orchestrated the release of all the major villains in Arkham/Blackgate to fight him first. That was cowardice. If he REALLY wanted to break-the-bat, and prove his own toughness, he'd want to fight Batman on the best day of his life - at his physical peak. And now - THIS nonsense. Bane is now . . . a wedding planner? What next, Bane making salty remarks on Gotham Twitter.

It also would have been better if Bane decided to do the same thing by going ahead to destroy his just married life, more satisfying it would be.

I like it. Bane is one of my favorite villains & I like how big of a role he has in King’s run.

Having said that, this makes no sense.

So Bane is behind:
I Am Gotham
I Am Suicide
I Am Bane
War of Jokes & Riddles
The Button
The Booster Gold Arc
And Joker’s recent attack on the wedding?

At the same time though, The Button did happen because Batman touched the smiley face at Psycho-Pirate‘s mask who was teamed up with Bane in the previous arc

Bane's plan, ignoring all the other convoluted nonsense around it from Skeets to Flashpoint Batman being there, is idiot for one basic reason:he's inflicting more pain on a guy who's been constantly touted (this issue included) as making pain his driving force to make himself even stronger. Not only should this not break Batman, it should make him more dangerous than ever for Bane to take on.

What would break Bruce is attacking him when he's actually happy, lax, content. When the blow would be the most painful for him to endure. It would also help reinforce the idea they're going for about happiness being Batman's kryptonite far more than some pseudo psychological bullshit from the Joker of all people.

This was actually more upsetting for me rather than Bat & Cat not going ahead with the Batrimony, cause i think it's pretty clear (for those that have been reading since day 1) that it will happen...eventually, probably in Batman #100.

But this? How the f*ck did Bane managed to get Thomas Wayne from the Flashpoint timeline?
Manhattan was CLEARLY behing all the "The Button" storyline, not Bane!

All this stuff is outside of Bane's juridiction/capabilities!

I'm ok with the rest tho, cause Bane (or even The Riddler or Ra's al Ghul) as the master planner is nothing new, just look at the Knighfall saga for example.

Do whatever you want King, but don't f*ck with Rebirth/DClock's storyline ffs.

When I read this I initially thought it was just an homage or a dream sequence since it has all the major enemies from Tom King's Batman run in one panel (and how would Thomas Wayne Batman be there?)

But if this is actually meant to be the intention what's to say Catwoman and Batman wouldn't just find out again Bane has been rusing them and the Wedding would be back on?

Either way this seems like a waste. I was enjoying DC Rebirth because it looked as if it would actual set a new status quo and stick with it.

They'd better not somehow retcon Superman's kid Jon as well. That's all I'm saying.

This reminds me of Harry's evil plan in Spider-Man 3 to attack Peter's heart by forcing MJ to break up with Peter right before he was going to propose to her.

Guys the panel isn't meant to be taken literally, that just shows all the events Batman has dealt with in the past 49 issues that has built towards this moment.

This moment actually saved the issue for me. I'm sooooo(ooo) tired of hearing the tired old psychological analysis of "Batman is a developmentally arrested angry ten-year-old, so any positive growth threatens his Batmanning. Better just keep him in the same Frank Miller story loop forever! Hands are tied!"

I was really afraid that we were going the same old route this time, and basically seethed my way through the issue. The ending implies that King is going the opposite route, implying that change *is* possible, and the lack of it may make Batman weaker.

Which is at least more interesting and more what I expect out of Tom King, even if I'm still irritated at the DC marketing team over this whole fiasco.

How did Bane get Thomas Wayne? Why would Thomas want to be on a team to kill Bruce? Tom King is an idiot and for all the things Rebirth did right (i.e. making the New 52 a non-entity), they royally fricked up Batman. He's been acting totally un-Batmanlike for all of his book, and he's just as much of a douchebag in the original Justice League too.

I find it naive that Selina thinks the only way Bruce can be happy is if he is alone. She also seems to listen to others opinions a lot to influence her wedding decision.
