CW Pres Confirms Plans To Bring More DC Characters To The Small Screen

Speaking to IGN, new CW President Mark Pedowitz says that the plan is to adapt more DC comics characters for tv screens post Smallville..

When Smallville ended many assumed that the CW would look to other comicbook characters to fill the gap. Early rumors hit of plans to make a series based on the Teen Titans character Raven, but nothing official was ever announced.

Well new CW President Mark Pedowitz spoke earlier at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today and while he doesn't comment on Raven, he does confirm that they are indeed looking for more DC Superheroes to bring to our small screens..

"We are looking next year to do superheroes if the right superhero comes to be. Having Warner Bros. as one of our partner companies and them having DC Comics makes it very intriguing to find the right superhero to go there."

And why wouldn't they? Despite some flaws. Ok, some HUGE flaws, Smallville was one of the most popular tv shows of the last decade. If the CW were to recreate that success, which DC character would be the best to go for? Keep an eye out for a poll later on, but for now let's hear your choices in the comments section.

The only thing that the general audience knows about DC is Batman, Superman, and WW.

They don't even have any interest about other popular DC characters like Flash and GL.

CW isn't that bad, their problem is that their shows are mostly teen dramas (including Smallville)which sucks.

When they do make serious shows they are not that bad, like Supernatural and Nikita.

Superheroes shows have a better chance of surviving on CW than on ABC (Marvel), because ABC are harder on the ratings of their shows than CW.

I could actually see a Nightwing show being alright...as long as they don't go the Smallville route.

I don't know man, Nightwing could work. I know they probably could never put batman or Bruce in any episodes, but they could still talk about how he was trained by Batman and used to be Robin.

Nightwind wouldn't require a high budget, and if they get a good martial artist and fight coreographer, it could be excellent.

As long as they realize the popularity of the Burton era Batman is long gone, I'd be okay with a "Graysons" or a "Raven", maybe a show about a retired Captain Richard Grayson, GCPD who has seen Gotham go back to hell since his generation hung their capes up. Maybe have him mentor a new hero ... all that is, if they wanted go a different direction

As long as they're nothing like "Smallville" (no offense, fans).

If they had the budget, I'd say they should do Batman Beyond. It has everything they want out of a hero: High School, new found responsibility, family drama, teenage girls, a crotchety old mentor, etc. It'd be perfect for them.

What about a show based on the Spectre? Make it a 70's cop show with him avenging someone who was wronged in each episode.

DC needs to catch up to where Marvel is at with movies. They should focus on making awesome films. But hopefully what they put out for tv is good.

Just great, now they can screw up more characters I love. They destroyed the Superman mythology now they want to do more.

[frick] CW DC/WB please get your act together and start making awesome movies take not at what Bruce Timm is doing with the animated material and take note at what Marvel is doing cause they are kicking your asses and badly.

A nightwing show would definitely work; easy enough to do a good looking costume and it relates to DC's most successful live-action character to date.
