With a major announcement about the future of Superman expected to be made by Jim Lee and Geoff Johns, many are now speculating that the relaunched DC universe (which we already know will feature a younger, newly suited Supes) will see the end of the marriage between Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The two were only ever married because the TV versions played by Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher got hitched in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Popular series' like Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman featured a single Clark Kent, while the upcoming movie from Zack Snyder will also feature a younger, single version of the iconic superhero.

Making Clark single again would not only gather a huge amount of attention from the press (surely a big help in promoting the 52 new #1 titles coming out in September) but would also open up many new story options as Marvel have clealy shown by ending the marriage between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in the controversial story, "One More Day".

What would you think about them making Clark Kent a single man? Would you be ok with him not being in a relationship with Lois Lane? Here's your chance to vote!

I think this would be a HUGE mistake. The One More Day story was a major issue of hate in Spider-Man comics. I think it pissed alot of fans off

Why not! They already made him turn his back on the U.S., why not destroy family value as well!

I voted for the marriage to live, but they're gonna pull a OMD anyway just to get some Marvel readers on board, aren't they? DC, I thought you were better than this...

AND WHAT COULD DC DO WITH A SINGLE SUPERMAN? Anyone? Anyone at all? Say, here's a smart looking kid at the front with his hand up. Whadda ya say kid?

"Um, romance Lois Lane?"

*BING* Correct! Superman would just go after Lois again. Now the next question, is there any point?

"Um... No?"

*BING* *BING* *BING*

I can't comprehend the idea that there would be dc universe where clark wouldn't be married to lois but damian wayne would exist

I agreed w/ their editor in chief years ago: Superman is meant to be married. I think it tortures him less and makes him more grounded. Letting him be with Lois works. Spider-Man being married doesn't. However, "One More Day" was ridiculous.

Rebooting books that will later be integrated with past history is just a sales play and a lack of creativity.

Since Lois is part of the copyright lawsuit (she was designed after Miss Segal) I would suspect this issue is already decided. Hence, the Sups/WW rumor.

Just keep them married.

Does it really matter? It's not like he can go to any other woman and screw them without breaking them in half while in bed. Theres only a handful of woman in DC who could handle that (Wonder Woman, Power Girl, etc).

Would a comic publisherc ever just undo a major character's marriage? Nah. Too ridiculous.

For once I'm agreeing with the troll. This is a stupid poll? If he's not married to her I'm sure she'll still be around.

But I thought being raised on good old American familial values was enough to keep Clark "grounded", is this not so? If he's a "younger" Superman now with the number 1 coming out, keep him single and probably pair him up with women that can do the "love you forever" deal. He's practically immortal under a yellow star, being with Lois is just a finite drop of ocean compared to the possible lifetimes he'll live through. Mwehehehe, pair him up with Power Girl - she's got huge tracts of land to lay claim to.

Stupid idea, everyone knows Lois and Clark will end up together anyways. I mean, they are the most famous comic book couple through all time, so why even try to bother chancing it ? "If it ain't broken, don't fix it"

I hated marvels rape on spider-mans relationship and haven't reed a single issue since.
If dc would do the same whit Superman, i cant even explain my disappointment.

Just make better stories, alright
Ichaos
Ichaos - 6/9/2011, 5:27 AM
Umm I keep seeing people wanting Superman to be a so called "bad ass" ummm if they portray Superman like say Batman or Punisher then the character is dead. Just kill him off and never pring another comic about him. Gimmie a break you cant change a character that much without destroying him. He is eternally 30 something and an over grown boy scout with mid western values. NOT a bad ass.

We all know he would find his way to Lois sooner or later, so for the time being since there going through with this stupid reboot, vote YES for single. He needs to interact with some new ladies.
niknik
niknik - 6/9/2011, 8:59 AM
Of course they are going to have him single again. Have you seen some of the artwork for these rebooted characters? They all look to be VERY young. It appears they are winding their clocks back a decade or so.

Still think the idea of redrafting the DC Universe once again is completely daft. Renumbering titles that have ongoing numbering from the first days of superhero comic books is even more daft.

It would be a stupid thing to do. She has always been in his adult life, after all the history and stories from day one of Superman that their destiny is with each other. Just give us better and more imaginative storylines. You want to write stories for a single Superman, use the Earth 1 version. Don't fix if it isn't broken.
