According to The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy channel has decided to try their hands at adapting a comic book into a television project too. Seems every channel is trying to get into the comic book adaptation business. Times are good for comic book fans. This project that they're developing, is Ronin, which was a limited (six-issues) comic book series published between 1983 to 1984. It was written and illustrated by Frank Miller, who is best known for creating Sin City and 300, as well as his legendary runs in the 1980's on such titles as, Daredevil and Batman. A formal announcement should come April 30th at Syfy's upfront presentation. Who will writing the project? The Hollywood Reporter adds, "A search is under way for a writer and the exact number of episodes in the Syfy miniseries has not yet been determined."
Written by Frank Miller; Art by Frank Miller In this tale of a legendary warrior, the Ronin, a dishonored, masterless 13th century samurai, is mystically given a second chance to avenge his master's death. Finding himself suddenly reborn in a futuristic and corrupt 21st century New York City, the samurai discovers he has one last chance to regain his honor. But to do so, he must defeat the reincarnation of his master's killer, the ancient demon Agat. In a time and place both foreign and unfathomable to him, the Ronin stands against his greatest enemy with his life and more importantly, his soul at stake.

Love Ronin. Hopefully, this show doesn't suck. Syfy shows can be iffy. Would've loved to see it on HBO or Netflix

It is samurai jack...kind of. Samurai jack traveled to different time periods though. I guess ronin inspired samurai jack.

Really interesting book, and very different from a lot of Miller's other work. This SyFy adaptation will probably suck.

Wait a minute at some point there was some talk of this being adapted into a movie...

"In 1998 Darren Aronofsky inked a deal with New Line Cinema for a film adaptation of the graphic novel. In 2007 Gianni Nunnari, producer of 300, announced he would be producing and Sylvain White, director of Stomp The Yard, directing the Ronin film adaptation."

The backstory to Ronin's publication is funny. Miller was going to originally publish it through Marvel's creator-owned Epic Comics line. He would have had complete ownership and control over the property. However, DC offered him a lot more cash up front, and Miller took their deal. However, DC's deal, just like Alan Moore and the Watchmen, had a written provision stating that the comic would revert to Moore and Dave Gibbons once the series went out of print. DC has kept these stories in trade paperback circulation for almost 30 years. The ownership has never reverted. Yet, Jim Starlin published Dreadstar through Epic around the same time and can control and profit from its development on the small or big screen.

Ronin is one of my earliest comic book memories. Also one of my all time favourite works. Great artwork and interesting story
