This September, we'll return to Avengers Mansion in Marvel Comics' Avengers Assemble

From the pages of Jed MacKay's hit Avengers run, this new spin-off series will be written by Scarlet Witch scribe Steve Orlando and illustrated by an epic lineup of comic powerhouses like Cory Smith (Wolverine), Scot Eaton (Cable), Marcelo Ferreira (Moon Knight: City of the Dead), Valentina Pinti (Blade), and more.

Inspired by the team he pulled together during Blood Hunt, Avengers Assemble sees Captain America take on a new initiative: recruiting new and classic Avengers for an all-new squad. Cap's team will operate out of Avengers Mansion and tackle one crisis after another on globetrotting superhero missions.

It's said the series will offer readers a modern take on classic Avengers adventures by expanding the scope of the team's current storytelling with a new threat every issue in fast-paced stories.

Here's the official description for Avengers Assemble:

As vampires attack the Marvel Universe, a ragtag group of volunteer Avengers set out to change the tide of battle. And in the aftermath, Captain America will form the Avengers Emergency Response Squad! Steve's handpicked team of veterans and newcomers live and train in Avengers Mansion, and when Captain America sounds the mission horn, whoever's on base has seconds to pack up and deploy.

Reporting for duty are Captain America (Steve Rogers), The Wasp, Hawkeye (Clint Barton), Hercules, She-Hulk, Photon, Wonder Man, and Shang-Chi, a group of Avengers that feels very MCU-inspired.

However, joining them will be obscure heroes like Night-Thrasher, Lightning, and Lightspeed (Julie Power).

"This is a great time to assemble!" Orlando said in a press release. "Avengers Assemble is bringing a murderer's row of classic Avengers back to the Mansion, and classic comics storytelling is coming with it! A team of icons and new recruits alike, but heavy on the icons! And in every issue, a barnburner of an entire story packed into twenty pages!"

"West Coast Avengers was the first comic book I ever bought, full stop. So, to be part of a return to form, heavy on personality, rich in action, is more than exciting - it's an honor! Starting this summer, Avengers Emergency Response Squad is always on duty!"

Sick covers. I love Hawkeyes arrow flash on the first one, IDK if I've seen that on a cover before

This looks fairly similar to what I'm expecting/hoping the new Avengers team to look like in the next movie.

Sams Cap
Shang Chi
She Hulk
War Machine
Hawkeye
Shuris Black Panther

...mcu dream team? It brings in she hulk, photon, and shang chi with his stupid bands (I mean rings 🙄). More like mcu nightmare team.

@Origame - Yeah, too much color for your eyes to to bear.

Origame - 6/6/2024, 9:53 AM
@comicfan100 - ah yes. Gotta make it about their skin color and not the fact they're terrible characters.

@Origame - I'm not dense. We know why you singled them out.

Origame - 6/6/2024, 10:19 AM
@comicfan100 - yes. Because they're awful characters.

How racist are you that you automatically conclude any criticism is based on their skin color? Unlike you, I'm treating them like anyone else.

@Origame - as weak as Shang Chi felt and as odd as She-Hulk would be as a fit, Photon actually would be pretty welcome IMO.

@comicfan100 - She-Hulk isn't a POC...
Origame
Origame - 6/6/2024, 11:02 AM
@Slotherin - well that's a decent opinion. But specifically talking about the mcu versions (since this is an mcu dream team according to the article), I just find her overall too inconsistent. Like, she describes being controlled by Wanda as the worst thing she'd ever experienced, then immediately does nothing but defend her and try to fight to protect her? Wtf?
Origame
Origame - 6/6/2024, 11:03 AM
@Slotherin - also, he ignored that there are also POC characters on this team I said nothing about. He's just looking to drum up drama.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 6/6/2024, 11:07 AM
@Origame - it seemed she wanted to see the good in her... That just speaks to an idealism imo.
Obviously what Wanda did was wrong and that's acknowledged; that's one I consider a bit more nuanced or like not an easy answer to.
Wanda didn't mean to do what she did and with Monica's own loss and grief it made sense that she would be one of few people to empathize with Wanda.

Moving on from there to The Marvels (I know, your favorite), she's the most level-headed member of that team and does get a chance to show off what she can do with her powerset.

@Origame - oh, trust me, I noticed. Hence my comment to him.
I noticed a brown guy in the back(?) of the second cover. Who is that? Not sure I saw anyone else.
Origame
Origame - 6/6/2024, 11:12 AM
@Slotherin - I honestly don't think it was acknowledged enough. They just let her go, not even trying to imprison her for her actions.

And while I get she's the best of the worst, keep in mind he said dream team. This implies ignoring Canon and just thinking of a roster of mcu superheroes consisting of 6-10 for your dream avengers line up. Are you really telling me photon would make the cut?
Origame
Origame - 6/6/2024, 11:13 AM
@Slotherin - there's night thrasher and living lightning. Both POC characters.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 6/6/2024, 11:26 AM
@Origame - Photon actually would make my cut since she has such a valuable powerset. She definitely tops super soldiers or an archer or super spy in my book, based on that.
If we're going by character only though and reception I can see skipping over her in favor of someone more popular or personally favored.

I thought the government guy (honestly can't recall his name) was deadset on arresting or taking down Wanda but she overpowered anyone who dared to defy her. I admit I have to rewatch the last few episodes of WandaVision (admittedly not my favorite part of the show either)

comicfan100 - 6/6/2024, 12:45 PM
@Slotherin - I'm aware of that, but she's been the target of online chuds since her show dropped. She's never been a terrible character, but she gets the table because of her ties to her more famous cousin

@comicfan100 - doesn't help the racism accusation but ok

@comicfan100 - Not wanting She-Hulk on the team doesn't make you racist.
