SDCC '13: Andrew Garfield Hints At End Of Spider-Man Tenure After 2018

Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield looks ahead to the day he'll hang up his web shooters. "I do cherish it, it is a true dream come true, but when the dream becomes a reality, we all know what reality is. Reality is good and bad, reality is flowers and a gravestone. You can't just have the flowers."

Speaking with USA Today, actor Andrew Garfield conveyed a desire to one day be able to go to a movie theater and watch a Spider-Man movie without seeing himself in it, citing his love of the Tobey Maguire trilogy. Garfield's reportedly a little conflicted about the third and fourth installments in "The Amazing Spider-Man" trilogy which are currently slated for release in 2016 and 2018 respectively. Said Garfield, "They might ask me back for No. 3, that would be very nice. As far as a No. 4 goes? I will be I think 40 years old at that point. So I don't know whether it would be appropriate [to do another film]." Of course he's joking, when the fourth film hits theaters in 2018, Garfield will be 34, going on 35. Yet, at the time of the fourth installment's release, he'll be two years older than Maguire was at the time of "Spider-Man 3's" theatrical debut. Continued Andrew, "The opportunity to step into the suit and step into his shoes is one I relish but it's a mixed bag. I do cherish it, it is a true dream come true, but when the dream becomes a reality, we all know what reality is. Reality is good and bad, reality is flowers and a gravestone. You can't just have the flowers."

I think he will be Peter Parker/Spider-Man in all! Just wait and see! Then again this series is going downhill fast so it might be cancelled and rebooted again by then!

I agree Garfield is the best casting choice for Spider-man such a great actor! Just hope that they exploit his great acting abilities with a better constructed script for the next film so that people can see how much good of an actor he really is and so that people can build up the faith and enthusiasm for this series again just as they once did when Andrew was cast in the reboot! I think the first film was great but many had issues with it, I just hope we get that Spider-Man film that would amaze everyone just as Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 did. Respect to Garfield!

As bad as ASM was, Garfield nailed the role. It'll be hard for me to imagine someone else playing the role.

I think he's an ok Spiderman and a not so great Peter Parker. IMO, he's not the best embodiment of the character.

He's good enough.

why cant he play Spider Man for longer??!!
Hugh Jackman have been playing Wolverine for 13 years and should add eve more years. 2012-1028 IS only 6 years , not a long time for Andrew Garfield.

I know Peter Parkkers s suppost to look young but Garfield has a boyish look and he can defintel pull of 2 more movies after 2018. six movies total with the last one being sisnister six.

whatever happens after Andrew is gone I hope they continue the saga and not reboot like they did after Tobet Maguire.

Garfield will be 34, going on 35. Yet, at the time of the fourth installment's release, he'll be two years older than Maguire was at the time of "Spider-Man 3's"

So whats the problem...in part 4 2 years older than Tobey in third...soo? Important thing is that he looks pretty young and at that point they can do time skip to really experienced spiderman going agaist sinister six...that would be awesome....and he can work for Tony Stark there or as science teacher in bad neighbourhood.

Andrew Garfield is a much better Spider-Man/Peter he is a much better actor than Tobey. Tobey McGuire is a mediocre actor at best, Andrew Garfield is receiving a ton of attention for his roles in Boy A, Social Network, that broadway show and TASM. Also TASM received better reception from audiences than SM1 hence SM2 making less than SM1.

Another 5 years of this crap? Garfield had the beginnings of a very promising acting career until he hooked with Webb and co. Its not too late.
