An article on why I believe Daredevil deserves more!

As a filmmaker, I always look to films for inspiration and as a means to tell stories. I watched the theatrical cut of Daredevil thinking it was decent but nothing special. I bought the Director's Cut much later, expecting more of the same. To my surprise, I found the director's cut to be much more enjoyable.

Director and writer Mark Steven Johnson expressed some of his frustration with Fox and how they had him delete a good number of scenes in favor of faster pacing and a love scene. I can relate pretty easily, since I too have had my films cut down in favor of pace.

He continued to explain how many other aspects were cut down, such as Murdock's troubles with relationships and life in general. Watching the director's cut, I felt the film had so much more potential if this was theatrical cut. However, life is not fair and we all know it. I don't know the status of Daredevil's contract with Fox, but I'm hoping Marvel will give him another shot once it expires.

Daredevil actually didn't do too bad commercially and critically, and I would love to see Daredevil get his due. To see him get the same treatment as Iron Man, the Hulk, or Thor would be a dream come true. Perhaps Frank Miller can write the script, though I have no idea who would direct it.

I might draw some fire on this one, but I think Affleck did a decent job. If you look past the way you feel about him and judge him strictly on the acting, then I think you'll see the performance for what it is.

Anyway, just hoping that Marvel will give their heroes the treatment they deserve once it comes full circle.

I thought Affleck did a good job too. Daredevil was a solid movie. I'll have to watch the directors cut

I have to agree with Dellamorte, "Daredevil" was pretty bad, the fight scenes were like a made for TV movie. I understand exaggeration but this just made it too damn hokie. Afflack was alright though he has as much acting skill as Keanu Reeves, and can only can convey three unconvincing emotions, anger, sad, and Afflack.

Also, I was not a fan of Michael Duncan as the King Pin, though if written well he probably could have pulled it off. However, any respected actor would probably look horrid due to the terrible writing.

Garner was another issue, I'm not a fan of hers nor do I think she can act, and she definitely doesn't fit the part of an assassin. Hell, neither did Uma Thurman but "Kill Bill" made me a believer. This movie didn't do that, Garner still looked like a frail little white girl pretending to know martial arts.

This character deserves the right treatment and not pushed off to a director that really can't expand past the comfort zone of comedy which even that is mediocre. The director choice was horrible, he screwed this movie "Ghostrider," and "Electra," this guy really sucks at his job.

i saw the director's cut of Daredevil and i liked it. there were many aspects about Daredevil/Matt Murdock that were not covered in the theatrical release...his investigative skills for example, and the way he pursues justice as a lawyer and not a crime fighter...

Daredevil is a character which IMO is one of the most neglected yet important in the Marvel Universe. He is not being treated in the same aspect as Iron Man, Hulk, Spiderman, yet he pursues justice in the same manner as the rest.

Personally I would to have a sequel. I want to find out what happened after he got Kingpin. New crime boss comes? New villain? Bulls'eye part 2? I can only wonder.

As far as fan cast is concerned, yup Ben Affleck did a decent job although the fight scenes were not really crafted well and the dialogues are not well written. Of course we need a much younger Matt Murdock lead actor now if there will be a continuation/reboot of the movie...but I am not familiar with this Michael C. Hall (Dexter?).

But if there were an immediate follow up to the movie, I guess I would stick with Affleck (axe the director though). New direction, new tone, same character. After all he is a true blue comic book fan himself.

Still, these are just opinions, and I hope there would be a new (rebooted) Daredevil movie to tackle his new challenges. I hope they make the right choices for actors/actresses, script and director/s.

The big problem with the DD movie's popularity is that he's one of the most underplayed and therefore least famous heroes. I expected it to be awful because Afleck was in it, but when I found out that Kevin Smith was involved I was less worried. I would love to see another movie... it's been what 7 years? Hell, I'd even like to see a cartoon (not as much as a live action though)
