Ben Affleck In Talks To Direct Future DC Film; Ta-Nehisi Coates' SUPERMAN Picture Still In Development

In addition to that massive Superman news, we've learned that Academy Award-winning director and former Batman actor Ben Affleck is in early talks to helm a future movie for DC Studios!

After James Gunn announced that he is developing a brand new Superman movie, with Henry Cavill not returning to the role, the trades are sharing even more intel on what he and Peter Safran are planning for their upcoming DC Universe slate, and it sounds extremely exciting.

Multiple sources are reporting that, in addition to Cavill, the new DC bosses also met with 2x Academy Award-winner and former Batman actor Ben Affleck recently to talk to him about the possibility of directing a film in the newly revamped DC Universe, which will launch in earnest in 2024.

Affleck was previously attached to helm a film centered on his version of Batman, where he would've presumably squared off against Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello), but that project was ultimately scrapped in favor of Matt Reeves' vision for The Batman

While it's doubtful that Gunn and Safran would want Affleck to tackle another Batman film, especially with Reeves already hard at work on a sequel to The Batman as well as a Penguin TV series, we'd imagine the Oscar-winner will be able to pick almost anyone else from the vast DC library to develop a film around. He might even be a contender for Gunn's Superman project.

Before he gets back in the director's chair, Affleck is slated to reprise his role as the Dark Knight for one last adventure in Andy Muschietti's The Flash next summer. However, it sounds like he may no longer appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

In related news, we've also learned that Ta-Nehisi Coates' film about a Black Superman is still very much in development and that Gunn's new Superman movie won't affect its status, at least not for the time being. Coates is still working on the screenplay, and J.J. Abrams remains attached as a producer.

as much as i like coates as a writer, this movie's never gonna happen

@tmp3 - it seems like such an odd project. I suppose it could work but now with this new Superman movie being developed, it doesn’t make as much sense. They should let the writer create a story for a different character.

@Forthas -

Ahhhhh yes, let's judge a director based on their worst project...

Spielberg sucks. He directed Jurassic park 2.

Nolan sucks. He directed TDKR.

You are not a serious person🤡

This has got to be a joke. That piece of shit Ta-Nehisi Coates' movie hasn't been canned, but Cavill has been booted?

DC is garbage.

@TheRationalNerd - because the man essentially admitted to being baked and “feeling nothing” about 9/11, and essentially accused Jordan Peterson of being a full blown Nazi.
The dude is a one trick pony, whose trick happens to be “I’m black!”

@IronMan616 - What recent shows
Sandman : a hit
Superman and Lois : a hit
Doom patrol : a hit
Peacemaker : a hit

and none were replacing something

Black Adam failed yeah and its part of what has continued to fail (and also had Cavil)
wW84 is continuing with what came before, first one was good but still obviously this one failed

What has been working
Joker : stand alone
The Batman : replaced what wasnt working

@IronMan616 - Dude said a bunch of bullshit about how he didn't respect the police and firefighters who died and risk their lives during the attack.

This has you pressed, why? What does his bullshit ass opinion have to do with the business of directing a Hollywood movie??
Seek a proctologist, stop making this about politics, and just deal with the fact that Cavill is no longer in as Superman. And as someone who loved his Superman (even loving MoS against the vast majority), you need to get off the [frick]ing internet and do something more productive with your time.
CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 12/14/2022, 11:46 PM
@MahN166A - I get his feelings about police on 9/11. When you’ve literally seen cops as abusers and killers your entire life (this is the black experience) it probably would be hard to separate those feelings. It’s not fair, it’s not how I felt, but I get it and it’s not bullshit.
MahN166A
MahN166A - 12/14/2022, 11:52 PM
@BloopBlorp2 - The guy clearly has a bias and prejudice against authority figures (its understandable), but to even go as far as to shit on the lives of those who were risking their lives or even paid the ultimate price for those attacks is beyond the definition of unfair generalization.

That is just [frick]ed up.

But overall, his personal opinion as I explained to the overly emotional fanboy here, is that it has nothing to do with being involved in the production of a film. Let him feel what he wants. He's wrong, but its his opinion.

@MahN166A - you sure have an obsession with men's rectums huh.

Stop defending a man you don't know, you sound pathetic. He's a piece of shit and his movie will be too.

But judging from your user name I know why you defend him. Makes you look like a piece of shit too.

@IronMan616 -

Is this where I am supposed to question my heterosexuality?

Take your own advice, and stop speaking up for Cavill, a man you don't know. And shitting on Gunn and Coates.
All in your emotions for men you don't personally know or have the privilege to feel for.

You're pissed because you didn't get what you want.
Make sure you wash your pillow case of the tears you leave on it.
CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 12/15/2022, 12:03 AM
@MahN166A - I think it would do good for all of us to have a healthy bias against authority. And I don’t know that he did shit on them? I didn’t read the book so I could be wrong, but the context I saw was just him explaining why, at the time, he didn’t feel sympathy for them dying. Because to him they “were menaces of nature; they were the fire, the comet, the storm, which could — with no justification — shatter my body.”

I’m sure the dude knew exactly how controversial what he was saying was, and probably why he chose that example.
MahN166A
MahN166A - 12/15/2022, 12:03 AM
@IronMan616 -

Reading Comprehension. Develop some. I wasn't referring to what YOU SAID as Opinion. I was referring to what Coates said about the Police and Firemen of 9/11 as HIS Opinion. A very STUPID opinion. But its his. And yes, you are over-emotional. Over a [frick]ing actor, dismissed from playing a character in a movie, with a new movie directed by someone who you already made an assessment of, all due to his personal and misguided beliefs. You are definitely over-emotional.
MahN166A
MahN166A - 12/15/2022, 12:06 AM
@BloopBlorp2 -

He definitely knew what the meaning of his words were. No doubts about that.
And we all have a perception of authority. It goes from cops, firemen, military, to Bosses or Supervisors that we work under at our jobs. It's not an uncommon thing. Not whatsoever.
But like you said, "Its good to have a healthy bias". Problem is, A LOT OF PEOPLE NOWADAYS, don't know what that means.
CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 12/15/2022, 12:14 AM
@MahN166A - I dislike romanticizing authority. We call people who do that bootlickers. Ironically some of the biggest bootlickers can be found waving “Don’t tread on me” flags.
MahN166A
MahN166A - 12/15/2022, 12:19 AM
@BloopBlorp2 -

I get that! And I have seen it.

I believe in neutrality to a lot of things. Authority figures fall into this. I don't need to walk up to every civil service member and thank them, and try to raise flags, bumper stickers, and go on long tirades and rants about how "THEY ARE ALL AMAZING AND WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR THEM!"

Cause some of them, suck at their job. Some, are amazing at their job. I have a deep respect for those who put on a uniform, or have to do some of the most difficult work that others don't have the courage to do. And I will see some and shake their hand. Its just out of respect. Cause not everyone in uniform is out to get you.

CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 12/15/2022, 12:32 AM
@MahN166A - Yes, and most importantly they’re all human. Not angels. Not demons. Humans. And they deserve the same respect you’d give anyone. They don’t deserve to be put on pedestals just for being authority, nor do they deserve for you not to feel anything when they die. But at least the latter there I can understand. I don’t think I’ll ever understand people who do the former.
