Guillermo Del Toro Doing Deadman Before The Hobbit

Guillermo Del Toro Doing Deadman Before The Hobbit

The long-awaited Hobbit movie may have to wait for Deadman

Everyone has been waiting to see The Hobbit. It has been a lot of peoples favorite books and is of course a classic. Deadman is a great cult comic character that if you know him you love him. Well, it looks like Del Toro might think otherwise.

Earlier today, he dropped by TheOneRing.net and left this cryptic message:

"In a few days there will be a BIG announcement (big for me, at least) that is not-Hobbit related. BEFORE anyone starts wondering the usual "how does he have time?, Is this detracting form The Hobbit?" etc It is a project that started over 2 years ago, before The Hobbit and will render fruits in the mid-term, not intruding on my Hobbit duties. Rest assured. The key letter is 'D.'"

So the project starts with the letter "D". What project does Del Toro have that starts with a letter "D"? Del Toro has reportedly been working on Deadman for years, so it is very possible that he could be referring to Deadman.

Deadman is about the DC Comic's ghost, that goes by the same name, that was a circus acrobat murdered in his circus and pursues the man that killed him. He uses his power, given to him by a Hindu goddess, to be able to take over peoples bodies as an aid in his search and helps many other people on the way.

Another comic that he might be doing is Dr. Strange. A character that Del Toro was also in talks to bring to the big screen, but never fell through. So what do you think? What does the "D" mean? Do you want to see Deadman or Hobbit for? Dr. Strange or Deadman? Discuss it all and more below.

Starts with the letter 'D'? I hope it is Deadman, but he would just produce it right? Might turn out something like The Crow.

I would love to see a Deadman film! I like Doctor Strange but I would rather see a Deadman film first.

If Ian Holm isn't in The Hobbit, then I'm sorry, but I have no interest at all in seeing it.

Im sure he means Deadman and not Dr Strange. Anyway, great news. Iv only read a few comics with him in them but he seems like a cool character.

Sam Worthington! hahah, i cant believe he was mentioned. How about we cast Sam Worthington as Wolverine in a reboot? And Daredevil too while we are at it. Don't you know, Aussie accented characters are all the rage now!

Finally a Deadman movie! He is such a cool character and I like his costume design, it's minimalistic, simple and sweet. I hope Del Toro is doing this first before The Hobbit or Dr. Strange.

But, of course, the way that Marvel has been pushing to get their properties on-screen and now with Disney's mega-power behind them it could very well be Doc Strange that he's talking about! In any case I win 'cause both characters are faves of mine and they both have "D" in them (DDD, get it?!). lol

I agree that Deadman is an extremely cool character. A movie would be interesting, sort of like a good guy version of Fallen with denzel Washington.

never read Deadman, but you guys seem to be indicating that it's a good book so I'm supportin...

But I would really really love to see a Dr. Strange movie made!! like LEEE777 said, I have my fingers crossed.

Why does everyone lick Del Toro's nuts? Hellboy 2 was average, the only thing for me that makes those movies is Ron Pearlman. The Hobbit will be good because the source material is well established and under Peter Jacksons leadership he won't be straying to far from it (hopefully). Dr Strange would be shit, directed by anyone, it will have to appeal to a mainstream audience in which case all the fans who want it so bad will get shafted. He isn't a well known enough character outside of comic book fans to appeal to a wide enough audience where they can keep him as he is without making changes in my opinion.

I'd love to see a Deadman movie. A great character and story. DC needs more movies. Dr. Strange would be cool but bigger fan of DM. He Should do these films first. Who cares about the Hobbit. Lord of the Ring Trilogy. 9+ hours about walking.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 9/8/2009, 3:01 PM
Yeah, that Randall quote from Clerks 2 gets around doesn't it? People don't seem to mind that it makes no sense. Movies about walking? Ok, so the Star Wars movies are just about spaceship flying then? Silly.

Moltenman people like DEl Toro because hes an amazing director. Do you think Hellboy 2 is the only movie he has made?

GRIF @ Read a mature label DEADMAN, you'll like it, he was watered down in JLU series! ; )

DARTH @ Good stuff!

Yeah guys @ DEL TORO, JOHNNY DEPP, DR STRANGE!!!

Friggin' A!!!

BRENT @ We never did get the FINAL RESULTS from the DR STRANGE POLL?

MOLTEN @ HELLBOY 2 @ Was a spectacular piece of work! (Okay the end could've been a tad better lol, but still amazing).

Check his other movies out, your missing out!

@ Leee777

Pans Labyrinth was a quality movie i agree, i am not saying that he is a bad director, i just think that that movie has to date been the highlight of his career so far and that was 3 years ago. It just bugs me a little that everyone assumes he is going to do a great job ( I honestly hope he does because us as the viewers will be the winners out of that) on, and i will use Dr Strange as an example, a character that has to be sold to a mainstream audience, when he is a fringe character to alot of people. As i said i hope he succeeds but selling the Sorcer Supreme could be a tough sell and end up disappointing alot of people. I am not saying that to offend fans of Del Toro, sorry for the harshness of my previous post, just my humble opinion.

I think Guillermo is only on deck to produce Deadman while Nikolaj Arcel is set to direct it.

Got to be Dr. Strange. But I agree, Del Torro isn't at the top of my directorial list. Hellboy II was a clunker - bad story, terrible acting, poorly directed. Cinematography was the only interesting thing in the film. I don't understand the fascination with Del Torro. Get the dude that directed Prisoner of Azkaban, fellow Mexican Alfonso Curon, now you're talking. He can tell a story, direct actors, and he has range -- Y Tu Mama Tambien to Harry Potter... nice.

If Del Torro is involved, I'd rather he'd do Deadman. Heck, Del Torro said he'd do Dr. Strange without the cloak of levitation. $#@! that, man. The guy can't figure out how to make the cloak work in a contemporary film about the good doctor? That, to me, means he doesn't understand the source, or he doesn't have the chops.

It's Dr. Strange. He said it was something he's been talking about for 2 years, and about two years ago he talked to Neil Gaiman about scripting a Dr. Stange movie for him. My money's on Dr. Stange. And if they do announce that Neil Gaiman is writing it for him I will get an erection.

Johnny Depp already played Dead Man.

A nice lil B&W diddy by Jim Jarmusch, and he was awesome in it. As for this, all I can say is balls. Depp would have to dust off his NY accent that's been in a box somewhere since... what? Donnie Brasco?

Bring on The Hobbit already.

Deadman would be cool, but before a few days ago nobody was talking about it. "It is a project that started over 2 years ago" that quote to me says Dr. Strange or possibly Drood as JerzeyHellboy pointed out.
