DEADPOOL 2 Director David Leitch Promises More Action In The Upcoming Sequel

With David Leitch's track record on films like John Wick & Atomic Blonde, some intense action was already expected for his work on Deadpool 2, something the director has now confirmed!

While it was disappointing for many when Deadpool director Tim Miller departed from the sequel, the subsequent hiring of David Leitch as his replacement assuaged the fears of many, especially with the director's penchant for high-octane action in films such as John Wick, John Wick 2 and the upcoming Atomic Blonde.

In an interview with Empire, Leitch said that Deadpool 2 will contain more action than its predecessor, and that he hoped to execute it in a manner befitting of the action design production company he operates with his John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski. “There's more action in this film. I hope we can expand it and make it interesting in an 87Eleven kinda way,” Leitch said.

Leitch did clarify, however, that he wants the tone of the first film to carry over to the sequel. “The completely irreverent tone was the thing that won me over about the first Deadpool movie,” he enthuses. “I want to deliver on what they did and at the same time hopefully expand the universe.

While it's comforting to know that Leitch wants to preserve what worked about the first film, there's still a long way to go before we see anything from it; the studio is still in the process of casting Cable, (who is set to play a major role) with Michael Shannon as the rumored frontrunner for the part.

Deadpool 2 is scheduled for release in 2018.

Now that they got the origin out of the way they can focus a bit more on the action, even though I personally thought the first movie had an almost near-perfect balance of story and action sequences. The perfect balance of story and action in a FOX movie was, by far, delivered by Logan.

@SpectacularJoSh - Out of all the Comic Book Cinematic Universes that are currently happening at the moment, I'm loving the FOX X-MEN cinematic universe.

While they might have their downfalls here and there (specifically X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE), I feel like each movie or TV show they do have different tones that make them distinct yet still feel like they take place in the same universe somehow. DEADPOOL is a parody of superhero films, LEGION is a surreal David Lynch/Stanley Kubrick-styled character study, and LOGAN is a realistically dark, gritty and grungy R-rated neo-western that serves as the final chapter/swan song to Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Leitch is going to make the action scenes even better than the first one. I see DP killing at least 100 goons.

Plot doesn't worry me for The Sequel because the first one had the most generic and used plot ever.

Just keep the meta/self deprecating humor flowing, Reynolds Adlibing and Action Scenes sizzling and you have another hit!

Okay.

But who is REALLY watching Deadpool for the action? Yeah it's got some cool parts here and there, but most people are watching for the comedy and the zany, fun personality of the character,

@MrDandy -

Only babies (and Transformers-fans) watch movies for the action.

Movies are about the characters.

@MaximusTheMad -

And action is a part of Deadpool as a character, so why not make it the best it can be?
