DEADPOOL 3: Kevin Feige On Taking A "Big Swing" By Finding Ways To "Elevate" MCU Threequel

While discussing Marvel Studios' plans for a third Deadpool movie, Kevin Feige suggested they'll be taking a few chances with the Merc With a Mouth's (Ryan Reynolds) MCU debut.

Marvel Studios brought its A-game to San Diego Comic-Con with a series of blockbuster announcements and first looks at some upcoming MCU movies/shows, but one project that received only the bare minimum of coverage was Deadpool 3.

We know that the first R-rated Marvel Studios production will be directed by Shawn Levy and that Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role of Wade Wilson, but very little has been revealed about the film beyond this. Kevin Feige wasn't about to divulge any significant details during a recent interview with THR, but he did make some interesting comparisons to earlier MCU threequels.

Feige "noted the studio historically takes big swings with part threes. 'How do we elevate it in the way we’ve been able to with Civil War, and Infinity War and Ragnarok? 'It’s very fun to be in the world of the Ryan Reynolds show.'”

This obviously doesn't tell us a whole lot, but it certainly sounds like Feige and co. are planning something big for The Merc With a Mouth's MCU debut.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick previously gave fans a slightly better idea of what to expect from the plot when they described the threequel as a "fish-out-of-water story" that will "drop a lunatic into a very sane world." They also suggested that the powers that be have been very "hands off," and nothing is off limits for ol' Deadpool to "poke fun at."

Wade finding himself dropped straight into the midst of the MCU via some kind of Multiverse displacement seems like the safest bet, but exactly how that goes down and which other characters are involved remains to be seen.

What do you guys hope to see from the third Deadpool movie? Drop us a comment down below.

@Typhoon20 - Sadly I’d agree with you. I’m now waiting for BP2 as my next marker as to the direction the MCU is heading. If that’s full of nonsense like L&T then I’m done.

How do you elevate Deadpool. Give him more friends to interact with than Colossus and NTW.
It’d be friggin great if before he enters the MCU 616 DP has to fight Thanos for the love of death… and for fun lady death could be Vanessa.

@slickrickdesigns - if that happens, I think there isn't a better movie to end with than Thanos getting arrested by NYPD

@bkmeijer1 - no way this comic panel is from an actual story. Thanos getting arrested by regular cops is hilariously unfathomable. Lol

@WruceBayne - it's from the same comic as the Thanoscopter. Don't think it's canon to 616 though

I usually try to "not" hope for anything, as that can lead to disappointment, as it seems to with many here.

That being stated, I hope to see Deadpool in his third film. If not, I am 100% going to be disappointed!

A fun swing would be to have Infinity War and Endgame events playing out around Deadpool and have him making cameos throughout them.

- Dusting while on the toilet and reappearing five years later and the building has been demolished and turned into a public park or made into a nursing home where he appears mid dump in-dusting.

- Him somewhere on the battlefield in Endgame. Kind of a Where’s Waldo with Deadpool. “Where’s Wade Wilson”

- Having him appear in different time travel sequences or a multi-verse of Deadpool’s.

Or a montage of where he was been during many of the major MCU events

@SpaceParanoids - the opening credits should just be Deadpool doing mundane everyday stuff while the events of the MCU all happen in the background behind him.

@SpaceParanoids - Well there was that one universe full of Deadpool's that Strange and America passed in the background. He could land there and think he's in heaven only to be sucked from there into the MCU and be super pissed off about it.

@bkmeijer1 - lol.. and gives Marvel a reason to let the fox-men actors get one last go… finale of the movie should be Hughe Jackman Wolverine vs Deadpool.

Shawn Levy is a logical pick for this one but I kinda wish they went with Glover or his guy Hiro Murai, especially considering the former was working on a DP show a few years back.

He should navigate his new universe by killing his doppelganger (about to sign a WB contract to play Booster Gold) then get his gal back.

I gotta watch Ragnarok again, but based off the praise that movie got, versus the lukewarm reception that Love and Thunder is getting, Marvel might be a bit nervous with Deadpool 3. Full-on comedies can be hit or miss. Especially with the superhero genre. And of course they're gonna wanna prove, that they're willing to allow for crude R-rated comedy. But what if those jokes don't land, like they did in the first two Deadpool movies?😨
