DEADPOOL Star Ryan Reynolds Remains Unsure What The Plan Is For The Merc With The Mouth In The MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been put on hold thanks to COVID-19, but fans remain desperate to see Deadpool enter that shared world. Ryan Reynolds, however, is uncertain about what's going on...

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 were critical and commercial hits for Fox, but with Marvel Studios now in charge of the Merc with the Mouth, the character's fate is unclear. While Ryan Reynolds has met with Kevin Feige, we're no closer to knowing what his plans are for Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Fans, meanwhile, are growing increasingly impatient to learn what comes next for Reynolds' take on Deadpool, and while the entire Phase 4 slate has been delayed thanks to COVID-19, there's been no sign of this character from the start (meaning his MCU debut is likely still a number of years away).

During a recent interview with Fast Company, Reynolds was asked to comment on when he believes Deadpool will finally get to cross paths with the Avengers, and his response was a simple one.

"Three words," the actor responded. "I don’t know. Obviously, everything is on pause right now."

This isn't what fans will have been hoping to hear, but even if Reynolds did know what the plan is, chances are he wouldn't be able to say anything. It definitely seems like a missed opportunity on Marvel's part not to make a Deadpool 3 a priority, but that's obviously easier said than done when they haven't introduced the concept of mutants to the MCU just yet.

What do you hope the future holds in store for Deadpool on the big screen?

Reboot and recast, it's that simple. If they are not going to keep any other actors from the X-Men movies and won't even have the Daredevil cast back for a Daredevil film or show based in the MCU then why should Deadpool be any different?

@CAmerica78 - It’s currently a cash cow that’s why. If they’re arnt gonna bring back Reynolds Deadpool they won’t be bringing him in at all. I can’t see the character being part of there plans anytime soon if not just to cash in on the current movies

@CAmerica78 - Deadpool can easily jump from continuity from continuity, without any baggage. Besides, they brought back J. K. Simonson from Raimi's Spider-Man.

@CAmerica78 - Because Deadpool is more popular.

It's a sad fact and I wish they would bring back both sets of actors. But there's no denying Ryan as Deadpool is more well known and financially successful than Cox as Daredevil.

Daredevil had terrible ratings in season 3.

I can't believe it's such a hard decision for them to green-light a sequel to a cash-cow with insanely fat profit margins. It's such a "no shit" idea, that if it genuinely doesn't happen due to weird studio politics then I'd be stunned.

Do some Deadpool movies that reference the MCU and make money, but never introduce DP into the actual MCU. See, easy.

Got blocked by Liefeld for saying that X-Men and F4 are a probably bigger priority to MS than Deadpool and we haven't heard shit from that either. Doesn't mean we aren't getting it. Like Reynolds said "everything's on pause".

At most, Feige will reboot Deadpool entirely but keep Reynolds as the actor. I'm willing to bet his 4th wall breaking won't even be as prominent as it was in the Fox version.

They should just release the movie under the 20th Century Studios label.

Who cares. Majority of the people I'd want to see him interact with are gone.
