Michelle Pfeiffer is the latest name attached to Disney's Maleficent 2, as the veteran actress is in talks to play the Queen in the sequel to the 2014 hit.

The sequel was announced in 2015, but filming is finally set to begin this spring. Deadpool star Ed Skrein has already signed on as the film's villain, with Elle Fanning and Angelina Jolie reprising their roles as Aurora and Maleficent, respectively. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Ronning is set to direct.

The first Maleficent film was a smash hit at the box office, earning $241.4 million domestically and $758.5 million worldwide. This dark imagining of Sleeping Beauty kickstarted Disney's initiative to reboot some of their most popular animated films, with Cinderella, The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast being remade in the following years. Dumbo and Aladdin are set to be released next.

While Pfeiffer is up for the role of the Queen, not much else is known about the character at the time. Pfeiffer can be seen next in Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp, out this July.

"The first Maleficent film was a smash hit at the box office, earning $241.4 million domestically and $758.5 million worldwide."

This was because the marketing suggested we were getting a dark origin story of one of the greatest villains in Disney history. Whose name literally means bringer of evil, and her story was written by the legendary Paul Dini, played by an actress who was born for the role. In other words, we were conned.

What we got was a story of a misunderstood hero in the form of a rip-off of Frozen who only had one or two scenes where she acted anything like Maleficent, and played a mother for the rest of it. Not to mention the fact that it was so offensive to the bringer of evil that Paul Dini took his name off of it. The fact that it was written by the talent who gave us the best Disney film in "Beauty and the Beast", makes it that much more offensive and shows how far Linda Woolverton has fallen since then.

I was hoping the sequel would be a retelling of the villain's origin story, in the veign of Death Note or something along those lines, but nope. We're just getting more of the same thing. I, of course, will not be attending or renting this film, if my rant wasn't enough to convince you otherwise. Ugh. I hate the first film.

Maleficent was pre-Cinderella, which is where Disney finally started to nail their live action movies to a degree. Maleficent was horrible, even though Jolie was pretty decent in the role.
