Collider has posted a new interview with Scott Derrickson, and several aspects of the director's journey to helming Marvel's Doctor Strange are touched upon - including how close Joaquin Phoenix came to playing the character, what he had to go through in order to land the gig, and more.

Perhaps most interesting, however, is one of the moments that was cut from the film because it didn't fit the overall tone. Comic fans may be aware that Stephen Strange had a younger sister named Donna who drowned when he was 19, prompting him to excel at his studies in order to become a doctor. Well, this originally happened in the movie, with Lulu Wilson ( Deliver Us From Evil, Ouija: Origin Of Evil) playing the role.

Check out the video for yourselves below. The deleted scene stuff comes in towards the end.

Doctor Strange hits US theaters on November 4, and you can check out my review HERE.
