A NEW CAST FOR THE BATMAN REBOOT

A NEW CAST FOR THE BATMAN REBOOT

I have been thinking about this for a while now, and I have finally chosen my cast for the Batman rebooted franchise. Check out my picks for the new actors after the jump...

No doubt most of us have extremely enjoyed Christopher Nolan's take on the caped crusader, and the amazing cast he put together. But, now that he is done with Batman, Warner Brothers has decided to reboot the Batman franchise. This is my take on who should take over the respective roles and what the basic story should be.

The trilogy I had in mind would go something like this as far as villains:

First movie, Black Mask as a side villain and The Riddler as the main one.
Second movie, Hush as the main villain. With Cameos by Catwoman and Penguin.
Third movie, Red Hood as the main villain. With cameos by the Joker, Ra's and Talia Al Ghul.

Here are a few rough ideas on how I think the story for the first movie should be.

This will be a more comic based franchise, still a darker gritty tone though. Definitely similar to Arkham City. Also like the new 52 Batman. We have seen Batman's origin enough in my opinion, so the story should start about 10 years into Batman's career. His origin can be referred to in flashbacks. Batman will be around 35 years old (which is perfect for the actor I chose to play him). Dick Grayson has been Nightwing for a few years, residing in Bludhaven. He is around 25 years old. He will come in later to help Batman briefly. Tim Drake is the current Robin. He is in highschool, around 16 or 17 years old. Works with batman on the weekends because of school. Black Mask will be a pawn in Riddler's scheme. He will be working for The Riddler, who will be revealed to have been pulling the strings. Riddler will have escaped from Arkham a little bit ago in the story, but he was nowhere to be seen until now. He is back to get revenge on Batman, and show him who is the superior mind.

Now to the cast...

BATMAN - MICHAEL FASSBENDER

Reason for casting:
I know he is a fan favorite and is used a lot, but I don't care. The reasons I chose him is because he is a fantastic actor, he looks a lot like Bruce Wayne and definitely could pull off Batman. I feel like he could do wonders with this role.

ROBIN/TIM DRAKE - JOSH HUTCHERSON

Reason for casting:
Now, all you haters out there, hear me out. I think he is a good actor, he looks the part exactly to me, and could easily pass for 16 or 17. He has the hair, he is short, and he has bulked up a bit. I think he could be a really good Tim Drake.

NIGHTWING - JAKE GYLLENHAAL

Reason for casting:
I actually like him WAY better than my previous choice (Shia Labeouf).
Jake is a great actor, and I think he could do Nightwing really well. Especially Nightwing's humor. Plus he has the body. He could be really good.

COMMISSIONER GORDON - BRYAN CRANSTON

Reason for casting:
Most of these are obvious. He is an amazing actor, and I swear he looks and sounds JUST like Gordon. He is perfect for the role.

ALFRED PENNYWORTH - JOHN CLEESE

Reason for casting:
Good actor, looks like Alfred and has the accent to back it up. You may say that he is a more comedic actor, but that doesn't mean he can't play a serious role. He has had those. Plus he could definitely do Alfred's dry humor well. I think he is a good choice.

BLACK MASK - VINCENT CASSEL

Reason for casting:
Good actor, has that mean look and can do a crazy guy. Looks like Black Mask.

THE R?DDLER - LEONARDO DECAPRIO

Reason for casting:
Right when the rumors started about him being wanted for Riddler in Dark Knight Rises I thought he was an awesome choice for the role. He looks like him. He can pull off psychotic and obsessive. I was disappointed that he didn't get a chance to show us what he can do as The Riddler. Therefore, I still really want to see him take on the role.

This concludes my fan cast for the first installment of the Batman reboot. I hope you all enjoyed it! Let me know how you liked it. Be sure to check out my casting for the second and third batman movie in the reboot, coming soon!

Great cast! I like Josh Hutcherson, but I'd start with Dick Grayson, but hey, it's your cast, & I like that you did somthing differant with starting with Tim Drake instead of Dick Grayson or Jason Todd. I love all the choices.
And I'm really looking forward to the JLA cats!

Wow, thanks so much!

Yeah I decided to start this reboot like a comic would. It's in the middle of everything. And I really like the time in Batman comics where Tim was Robin and Dick was Nightwing. As you can tell from my username and avatar, I really like Nightwing. I just think it'd be so awesome if they skipped the whole origin thing, we know it well by now, and started in the middle of the action.

Thumbs me up if you like it please. I'm hoping to get enough to be on main...

Will you ever go in-depth on your proposed stories? Screenplay? Plot summary? I can't praise or critique many of your choices for: "no origin", "skip to ten years later", and your villain picks. I'd like to see more fan fics on your idea — especially how the villains fit in thematically. Aside from that — your cast isn't very original but fairly good. Hutcherson would be a good Robin, just curious as to how his chemistry with Fassbender would play out. LaBeouf needs to change his voice and his lip mannerisms — I don't think he's a bad actor — just don't think he can capture the dedication of Nightwing.

I stopped reading after seeing Michael Fassbender. I'm terribly sorry, but...seriously. He's awesome, talented, good-looking, and all, but Magneto is enough for him, and many other reasons.

So i see the fancast. This is what I do

Me: We have the same Batman pick
Me scrolls down
Me: We have the same Tim Drake pick. What id the next one is the same?
Me scrolls down
Me: NO!GODDAMN NO! NOOOOOOOOO!

I don't what Nightwing to jump off of a building and his grappling gun is broke and he can shoot it and be like

________________________________________________________

Just kidding, but otherwise this fan cast is awesome.

@Wingding Your username is based off of liking Nightwing. I thought otherwise. LOL. But you can see from my username that I like Red Hood (Jason Todd and Joker). So i think bringing in Jason Todd that early isn't really good. Unless your talking about Red Hood I (the joker before he became the joker) i don't think that's good.

Good Stuff!

Just simply good!

But seeing FASSBENDER is getting really old!
FASSBENDER for EVERYBODY!
lol

And BRIAN CRANSTON can play all the people FASSBENDER
doesn't want to play!
lol

I think LaBeouf is a good actor, but I don't really want to mention or think about him after seeing his hairy dick in a YouTube video and finding out that he's gonna be in a soft porn with Nicole Kidman and Willem Dafoe.

I know a lot of people are doing Fassbender. But as i said i really like him as an actor and think he would be a great batman. I didn't pick him cause a lot of people pick him. But my second choice would be Matt Bomer. Shia I agree can be annoying but I think he could do this role well. Every other person I thought of was too old. Nightwing needs to be no older than 28 if batmans around 35.
@RedHood13
Yeah nightwing is second to batman in my list of favorites, and after him is red hood. Just because i chose an actor that you don't like for nightwing does not mean i don't like nightwing. Quite the opposite actually. If anyone has some better in his 20s nightwing suggestions I'm all ears guys.

Even though some picks have been chosen before I'd go ahead and say this is one of the more original fancasts. Usually some chooses an obvious top contender and the rest fall awkwardly into place. And while these picks aren't out of left field or anything, they do all go together in a category that is far less thought of than most.

Essentially it's the idea behind ensemble casting. You could cast one big name and the rest unknowns, but then it becomes crunch time on screen with character development. Or you could cast all big names and get into a problem that renders the idea too fanciful. But mildly popular (I know Fassbender is more than so) is perfect for casting multiple roles that would obviously be a large screen presence.

My only quip is that since Fassbender is Magneto I don't think it's realistic to see him as both, but maybe I'm more conservative on the matter when I say I'd rather one actor portray one superhero (and villain) at a time. Doing so seems less original. However, it doesn't change the fact that I am warming up to the idea of Fassbender doing Batman.

OK, the cast overall is actually pretty good...except for Shia LaBeouf. I mean, regardless of the age, even Josh Hutcherson looks a lot maturer than him! Indeed, things don't have to be exactly like in the comics (that's a rule for ALL comic book movies to me, in fact), but...that's just wrong. Aside of that, though, this cast is pretty good. Although most of the picks are quite common, they surely can work. I really like Cassel as Black Mask, especially.

Matt Bomer is my choice for Batman - but, he can work very well, and it'd be a lot better if you featured him there, instead of Fassbender! :)

Just imagine, if all these fan casts are applied to real movies...in a DC Movie Universe, Fassbender would be Batman, and also double as the villains Prometheus and Lex Luthor. Meanwhile, in the Marvel Universe, Michael Fassbender would also portray Daredevil, in a movie where he had to face against Bullseye, who's portrayed by...well, himself. Plus, a cameo of again himself as Johnny Blaze.

That's just to show how overused he is in fan casts, and those are only a few of the roles he's most commonly picked for. (I believe there are a lot more.) Luckily, you don't have Idris Elba and Ryan Gosling, too...but, well. Apologize my rants, but the overused picks are quite sickening at this point.

Aside of those two picks, though; again, it's a good cast. Keep up the good work. :)

I agree with DDD, Fass and Cranston are getting Yvonne Strahovski level around here these days but hey they work for these 2 roles! Props for not using Cassel! Leo would kill it as Riddler, insanely talented man. Hutcherson and Shia are both awful though.

@Wingding Gyllenhaal seems more capable of Nightwing than Lebouf, in my opinion. I'd say the two are on par with each other on acting (don't take this as one of my critical assessments), but Jake fits better.
Wingding
Wingding - 8/12/2012, 7:52 AM

I agree he is more capable and a better fit. Wouldn't say they are "on par" as far as acting goes though.
Overall, Jake would be a way beter Nightwing. Shia would get annoying.

Hey Wingding! I'm telling everybody here, my fancasts and Wingding's will coincide, so check them out! We'll try not to duplicate characters, but it'll probably happen from time to time.
Advocate
Advocate - 8/12/2012, 2:29 PM
@Wingding I don't mean on par literally (hah, you might say, how else can you take it?), but more so the idea that the two actors' stardom is equivalent, not equal. So in relative terms, "on par" is just saying the two are feasibly interchangeable. But Jake's acting chops dominate the casting choice.

Good cast like your batman choice, robin is decent but I don't really see your nightwing choice In my opinion Aaron Johnson,Garrett Hedlun or Ian Somerhalder would be cool but hey that's just me.
