If you had a childhood, you probably read Lemony Snicket's acclaimed "A Series of Unfortunate Events", and watched the Jim Carrey led film in 2004 (which focused on the first three books). Although the movie was unable to kickstart a franchise, Netflix has taken the reigns and greenlit a limited episode run based on the series. We've had some casting news in the past, with Neil Patrick Harris set to take the role as Olaf himself, but we have yet hear casting for Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. This is especially strange as GamenGuide has stated that the show has wrapped production and is aimed for a release date around Christmas, though Netflix has not confirmed these reports.
Neil Patrick Harris spoke on Live with Kelly and said the series will retain a "dark-comedic tone" and that producers are careful not to push for an R-rating. This makes sense seeing as the series' demographic is aimed at kids and teens (and those who grew up reading the beloved books). Some movie and TV critics have expressed concern for the Baudelaire children's return to the screen, saying the Netflix show may share too many similarities with the movie. It's a fair argument and one that could prove detrimental to the series if it does end up being a rehash of the film, however fans of the series (myself included) are excited to see Snicket's characters once again and how Netflix handles the "unfortunate" circumstances that plague our heroes.
I read the "Series" books back in elementary school and completely loved them! I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and was surprised it never received a sequel, especially since (in my opinion), Olaf is one of Jim Carrey's most amazing roles! I'm extremely excited since Netflix has a knack for making awesome shows (anyone else pumped for LUKE CAGE?!).
GamenGuide ended the article stating the series will most likely premiere in 2017, which is more plausible than a Christmas release (especially since there's been almost no marketing). A couple users pointed out the Netflix poster is fan-made :( It's still kinda cool though...right? I should've seen that since Violet's name was misspelled and didn't notice until now!
