Hey guys, it's me, everyone's favorite Mercenary with a Chimichanga fetish!

OK, this is my first article, so be gentle.

Now, down to business...

I'm sure most of you guys saw the awful DRAGONBALL: EVOLUTION movie. What started as a half-assed idea, was made worse by horrible execution. Really, Justin Chatwin??? But, enough about that. How can we help Hollywood fix this problem in the future? By listening to my FAN CAST, of course!

I'm going to focus on the "Namek Saga" for this casting call. And if I leave out any characters that I shouldn't, let me know in the comments, or give me your ideas!

Goku

To start, we have our lovable hero. My choice for Goku is Tony Jaa.

Tony Jaa, as some of you may know, was the star of the Ong-bak film series. His martial arts skills are world-renowned. Even Jackie Chan loves him, saying, "Tony Jass is the most well rounded of all action stars.". I think Tony would make an excellent Goku.

Gohan

My choice for Gohan is Leo Howard.

Yes, it's an old picture, and yes, Leo Howard is getting a little old to play Gohan. But, we accept changes to characters alot, so him being 16 isn't a hard pill to swallow. Leo's performances in both G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and Conan the Barbarian were top notch. He would be perfect to bring the emotion and anger needed for a pissed-off Gohan.

Piccolo

Two words, Luke Goss.

Luke Goss is a badass. He is known for his action roles, and makeup heavy characters. Who can forget him as Nomak in Blade 2, or Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. He brings exactly what we would want to see as Piccolo.

Frieza

For the villainous Frieza, I give you Mark Dacascos.

Mark Dacascos is a skilled martial artist, and decent actor. He portrayed Kung Lao in the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and Eric Draven in The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. I would point to his villain turn in Cradle 2 the Grave opposite the legendary Jet Li and DMX. I believe he could give us a proper take on Frieza.

Captain Ginyu

I will focus only on the leader of the Ginyu force. I would love to see Jason Momoa take on this powerful, and hilarious role.

Jason Momoa is best known for playing Conan in the somewhat ill-conceived remake of the Ahnuld classic. He also starred in Game of Thrones(never seen an episode). He is huge, has a brutal fighting style on film, and I would love to see him prancing around with the rest of the Ginyu Force.

Bulma

Ah, the eye candy with brains. I'm gonna switch things up here, because my pick for Bulma, is Rila Fukushima.

Now, I know what you're saying. Bulma is caucasian. But after Rila's breakout role as Yukio in the Wolverine, I think you'd be hard pressed to dispute this casting. She's beautiful, and deadly. I also believe she can put forth the air of intelligence required for Bulma. Vegeta is a lucky man!

Vegeta

Speaking of the Saiyan Prince, I think he deserves a fanboy casting regular. I think Scott Adkins would be incredible as the despicable, lovable Vegeta.

I'm sure we all remember Scott's brilliance as Boyko in Undisputed II and III. He also did the stunt work as the infamous "Barakapool" in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As well, he had an awesome death scene as JCVD's henchman in Expendables 2. His martial arts are second to none, and he can definitely pull off the attitude of the entitled Saiyan Prince.

Krillin

Saving my personal favorite for last. I love Krillin. He has a heart of gold, and doesn't know how to quit. For him, an odd choice of casting, I present for your consideration, Michael Rosenbaum.

Now, yes, he is far too tall for Krillin. But I honestly cannot think of anyone with the proper stature for Krillin (other than Verne Troyer). Rosenbaum is a fantastic actor, known for his role as Lex Luthor on Smallville. I've never seen Smallville, so I will direct you to "Poolhall Junkies". Little known film, but if you've ever shot a game of 9-ball in your life, I recommend you check it out. He's great as the little brother. I think he would make a great sidekick to Tony Jaa's awesome Goku.

Well, that's it for me. I know I left out some characters, like Nail, Dende, Master Roshi, and King Kai. By all means, give me your ideas for those characters and more in the comments section.

Until next time, have a Chimichanga on me!

Nice casting :)
Rila would make a better ChiChi

Thanks @Cherry

I hate the ChiChi character. But if I had to pick someone, I think Lucy Liu would be good. Watch her in Payback, where she plays that hooker. She's just mean.

Justin Chadwick = Worst casting EVER! Worse than Nic Cage as Ghostrider.

Amazing for your first fan cast, just next time have pictures of the characters next to the actors for an easy comparison, just advice(Paint does wonders). Everything else is totally solid. Thumbs up.

Oh and, his name is Justin Chatwin, not Chadwick. Might want to change that.

There are many many characters in DBZ but you definitely have a good starter one for a main cast. I know this because I did a DBZ fan cast also myself. It's tough to pick out the right cast when it comes to this.

Thanks Jacky! I'll change the name right now. Didn't bother to look him up. And I only wanted to focus on the Namek Saga to do all of it, would be almost impossible.

Gohan's parents would look asian, while he doesn't...

Also i never though about Goku being asian (i always though chi chi was like half asian)

Krillin on the other hand, definitely Asian.

as for my thoughts on DBZ in live action, i dont think it can be done, at least not without a big budget ($200 million) and a great director and writer.

I think it would be better off with an animated movie (high budget for the big screen), mainly for the story purpose and action scenes. most action scenes from DBZ would look VERY unrealistic and probably hard to pull off in live action.

BUT!! I am a fanboy of DBZ, so ill at least talk about some stuff I'd wish come true.

After WB is done with their current "fantasy" genre stuff (LOTR/Hobbit, Harry Potter) they pick up a DBZ film series, with serious directors and writers with a good budget behind it. The films would follow its animated adaptations but with some minor tweaks.

First they start out with DBZ 1 with a moderate budget to test out the market, if it does good, they advance to trilogy, and so on.

DBZ: Origin for Goku and Kami/Piccolo, Old picollo fights goku, then new one is reborn.
DBZ 2: Story Focuses on the saiyan/Vegeta Saga when they come to earth
DBZ 3: Story Focuses on the Namek/Freiza saga. 2 and a half to 3 hour long movie
DBZ 4: Focuses Primarily on the Android Saga, Cliffhangers into Cell Saga
DBZ 6: Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan (CGI during ssj)
DBZ 5: Focuses on the Cell saga
DBZ 7: Focuses on the Buu Saga, Cliffhangers into Super Buu
DBZ 8: Focuses on the Super Buu Saga
DBZ 9: Focuses on the Baby Saga
DBZ 10: Focuses on the shenron Saga

Also i would probably keep the Cosmos/Afterlife (where goku goes to when he's dead) to a minimum, maybe 10 minutes total in scenes on the saiyan saga.

All these movies, except for the first and maybe 2nd one should have have high budgets ranging from 180-220 million. CGI needs to be top notch in order for this not to look cheesy. and please get the hair right!!!

It's a classic saga, DBZ has many great storylines.

@GoldSlayer

Thanks for the input.

Goku is not Asian, he's alien.
ChiChi probably half-asian.
Krillin is caucasian.
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/14/2014, 2:24 PM
@Merci
I know, but in the show, he never really came off as someone that would be comparable to an asian.

I always thought Krillin would be asian though.

As for WB picking this up (i know its just a dream), I honestly would prefer a movie series for DBZ than that overdone king arthur bull crap which they're stretching to 6 movies.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 2:27 PM
@Gold

True. I just think that Jaa would be the best to showcase his martial arts skills. They can always make him seem a little whiter with lighting.

I think the best way would be a web series, like MK Legacy. But for live-action, I put together what I thought would be a relatively inexpensive cast (save the money for effects). DBZ doesn't need an A-lister to draw people, the fan base is massive.
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/14/2014, 2:31 PM
@Merc
One way to lower production budget is to shoot them back to back.

in my list Movie 2 and 3 can be shot back to back.

then movie 4, 5 and 6 (broly takes place right after Cell saga if i remember correctly) back to back to back.

same with 7 and 8, then 9 and 10.
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/14/2014, 2:33 PM
I know it seems like a huge stretch to have this many movies but any of these stories IMO has huge box office potential. (ESPECIALLY a broly movie and a freiza movie with an epic ssj transformation scene)
like $800-1000 million per movie (if done right of course...)

Oh I have no doubt Lucy Liu would be great, I love her in every role! I just thought the fan cast was going a little younger.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 2:55 PM
Definitely @Cherry

But Tony Jaa is almost 40 and Leo Howard is 16. And I always thought of ChiChi as older than Goku. Gotta love those cougars!
Tuuralihn
Tuuralihn - 2/14/2014, 2:59 PM
How can ya cast Rosenbaum as Krillin? Krillin is MAYBE 4 feet tall.

Also, Tony Jaa as Goku? While he has the skills, he doesn't sell the "strongest being ever" look. Goku has to be BIG.
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/14/2014, 3:03 PM
@Merc
thing is Goku is a character that ages much slower than regular humans.

Chichi is indeed a cougar, when she gets older, goku almost stays the same (if that counts as a cougar)

but age wise i think they were around the same. i know bulma was older though.

@Tuuralihn
yeah I'd probably agree, a goku needs to have a little more muscle mass.
atleast when he's powered down. when he powers up he could be enhanced with CGI to pull off the bulkier transformation.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 3:03 PM
@tuuralihn

I know about Rosenbaum. But I addressed the height issue. And he's got the attitude for the goofy sidekick.

And Goku isn't huge in DBZ. Remember, strength in DBZ doesn't come from muscle.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 3:05 PM
I'm loving this feedback though. Thanks guys, and Cherry.
GoldSlayer1
GoldSlayer1 - 2/14/2014, 3:11 PM
@Merc
Goku should atleast have the physique of a guy like Jason momoa or Henry cavill (just examples) when he's powered up. but slightly less muscular powered down. with a height of about 5'11 (that way bigger characters are easier to pull off)

and it does matter in some ways.

SSJ 2 (SSj2 not SSJ) is like SSJ but much bulkier in physique, thus increasing physical strength. (it was explained in the series) but was also slower in terms of speed.

also idk if anyone else though of this, but has anyone though of Stone Cold Steve Austin as Nappa?
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 3:22 PM
@Gold

Very true. But remember, this casting is for the Namek Saga. No need for SSJ2. But I see where you guys are coming from.
MercwithMouth
MercwithMouth - 2/14/2014, 3:28 PM
And Austin would be amazing as Nappa!
