Fan Cast: Wonder Woman

My take on who should be in the first Wonder Woman movie, and how they would factor into the story. Hope you like the picks.

Jodi Lyn O'Keefe as Princess Diana /Wonder Woman

Initially, Wonder Woman is an Amazon champion who wins the right to return Steve Trevor—a United States intelligence officer whose plane had crashed on the Amazons' isolated island homeland—to "Man's World," and fight the evil of the Nazis and other crime. During the Silver Age, Wonder Woman's origin was revamped, along with other characters. The new origin story increased the character's Hellenic and mythological roots. Receiving the blessing of each deity in her crib, Diana is destined to become "beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, stronger than Hercules, and swifter than Mercury."

Originally I hated this idea. I thought she was too tough looking and looked too old. But after watching her in some better movies and watching her in “Prison Break.” I realized she was the perfect pick for Wonder Woman. She is a real tough girl that could be strong against any man. She has the chops and the look for a perfect Wonder Woman. In this movie, Wonder Woman would be a very curious girl that is naïve towards the evils in the world. She is still tough and loyal to the duties she is given by her mother.

Matt Damon as Steve Trevor

Originally, Steve Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army during World War II whose plane crashed in the isolated homeland of the Amazons. He was nursed back to health by the Amazon princess Diana, who fell in love with him and followed him to the outside world. There she became Wonder Woman. Steve Trevor was portrayed as an American military hero who often fought battles both alone and alongside Wonder Woman. At the same time, he was a traditional superhero's love interest: repeatedly becoming kidnapped and needing to be rescued by Wonder Woman, as well as pining after the superheroine in the red-and-blue outfit while failing to notice her resemblance to his meek, bespectacled co-worker Diana Prince.

In my opinion Matt Damon should’ve been Captain America. I think he would be perfect for Steve Trevor. He has the soldier look and has a history as a soldier on film. He has combat training and could also be the compassionate love for Wonder Woman. In this movie, he would start as a very suave womanizing man that puts women beneath him. As the movie progresses, he becomes more supportive of women. He then teaches Wonder Woman about how equal women and men should be and proves that men are not evil.

Lynda Carter as Queen Hippolyta

The character Hippolyta first appeared in All Star Comics #8 (1941), the same comic book that introduced her daughter, Wonder Woman. According to this story, Hippolyta and the Amazons once resided in "Amazonia" in ancient Greece, until they were beguiled and bested by Hercules, who had been sent after her by the war god Ares. She was able to beat him using the girdle. He seduced her, and tricked her into allowing him to see the girdle and to steal it. This caused them to lose the favor of their patron goddess, Aphrodite. Eventually she and the other Amazons were forgiven, but had to wear bracelets to remind them of the chains which once bound them. To regain their status, the Amazons were forced to leave the mortal world and relocate to Paradise Island. On the island, they established their own society, free from the evils of man's world. So long as they remained there and Hippolyte retained possession of her magic girdle, the Amazons would be immortal.

Everyone pretty much wants this to happen so…why not? Hippolyta would show great distaste towards Steve Trevor and all other men, and would convince all the other Amazons to distrust him. She would argue against letting Diana take Trevor back to man’s world, but would eventually cave and let her go.

Kate Winslet as Antiope

In current continuity, Antiope and the rest of the Themyscirian Amazons were first created by a select few of the Greek gods: Artemis, Athena, Hestia, Demeter, and Aphrodite. They took the souls of women slain throughout time by the hands of men and sent them to the bottom of the Aegean Sea. The souls then began to form bodies with the clay on the sea bed. Once they reached the surface, the clay bodies became flesh and blood Amazons. The first one to break surface was Hippolyta, and thus, she was exalted to queen of the new race. The second Amazon to break surface was her sister Antiope, and she ruled as a second to Hippolyta in all affairs.

To play Antiope, a mature and elegant looking actress is needed. Winslet is a fantastic actress that has the right elegant. She would be able to show strength when needed. In the movie, Anitope would be second to the queen and help to convince Hippolyta to send Diana to man’s world. She would eventually be killed by Ares.

Angelina Jolie as Artemis

Artemis was born an Amazon as a member of the Egyptian tribe of Bana-Mighdall. Three thousand years ago, the two Amazon queens (Hippolyta and Antiope) split the Amazon nation in two. Hippolyta's tribe traveled to the isolated island of Themyscira to live immortal lives and to protect the doorway to the Underworld called Doom's Doorway. Antiope's tribe was never given immortality, and was forced to mate with common men in order to guarantee their tribe's survival over the centuries. It was in Egypt that they finally built the city of Bana-Mighdall, which in their language translates to "The Temple of Women".

This is probably going to be the most hated choice, but I wanted an actress that could convey strength, maturity, and wisdom. Jolie shows all these traits. In this portrayal she would be one of the strongest Amazonian warriors and a harsh mentor to Diana.

Keira Knightly as Mala

Mala was one of the most important Amazons in the Golden Age adventures of Wonder Woman. Mala was with Diana when they discovered Steve Trevor floating in the sea. They worked together to bring him to shore. Mala was the last Amazon standing alongside a masked Diana during the contest to determine who would venture into man's world. Mala became the head of the Reform Island program for rehabilitating criminals and the criminally insane. She was typically depicted as blonde and wearing a polka dotted dress.

Knightly really deserves better roles, and this would be her first step into greater things. She is beautiful, skilled, and tough. That’s exactly what Mala needs. In the movie, she would be good friends with Diana and would find Trevor with her. They would be the final two to battle to take Trevor back to man’s world.

ENEMIES

Emily Blunt as Cheetah

The first woman to become the Cheetah, in Wonder Woman #6 (October 1943), was Priscilla Rich, a 1940s-era blonde Washington, D.C. debutante of aristocratic upbringing who also had an overwhelming inferiority complex and suffered from a split personality. After being eclipsed by Wonder Woman at a charity event, Priscilla retreated to her room and collapsed before her makeup mirror. There she saw an image of a woman dressed like a cheetah. "Horrors!" she cried, as she gazed at her evil inner self for the first time. "Don't you know me?" replied the reflection. "I am the REAL you — the Cheetah — a treacherous, relentless huntress!" The image commanded her to fashion a Cheetah costume. "From now on," intoned the reflection, "when I command you, you shall go forth dressed like your TRUE self and do as I command you..."

Emily Blunt has the right look and could show the evil that Cheetah needs. With some fight training, she would pull off some great physical scenes. Cheetah would have a smaller role in the movie as a burglar that steals artifacts from different museums. Wonder Woman sees this as an opportunity to show the world a woman can stop something no man is able to stop.

Tyler Mane as Deimos

Deimos is the Greek god of dread. His Roman counterpart is both Formido and Metus. He and his brother Phobos attacked Wonder Woman early on during her mission in man's world. During that encounter the Amazon was able to behead Deimos with her tiara. His spirit later took possession of the Batman villain The Joker. Once Ares discovered Deimos and several other of his dead children had escaped Tartarus, he corrected it by returning Deimos back to the Underworld.

Mane is a really good at portraying big mean enemies and this makes him perfect for Deimos. Deimos would operate as the right hand man of Ares. After Ares discovers that Wonder Woman took down Cheetah, he sees a potential threat to his plan and sends Deimos to kill her. Wonder Woman kills him and then finds she must go back to Themysciara because something bad is sure to happen.

Wentworth Miller as Ares

2ND CHOICE

Rufus Sewell as Ares

During most of the Golden Age, Silver Age, and Bronze Age, Ares was called Mars and was one of the most recurrent enemies of Wonder Woman. He was depicted as a Greco-Roman warrior in orange armor. Unlike the contemporary version, his face was visible. Ares, who eventually became known as Mars, sought to realize his vision of eternal war and conflict in the world of man. He was chiefly opposed by Aphrodite, goddess of love, who sought a contrary vision of a loving civilization. When Ares taunted Aphrodite with the success of his plans, Aphrodite molded clay and breathed life into a new race of women, the Amazons. They built a city-state called Amazonia in which they created a woman centric civilization for spreading the gospel of Aphrodite's Way. Hippolyte was granted a golden girdle which made her invincible.

Both of these actors bring something different to the role, but are equally capable. Miller has the look, the voice, and the potential to show something great. He hasn’t been in much and has the potential for growth. He looks like the guy that could entice a woman, and then kill her if needed. Now Sewell is a much more seasoned actor with a lot of evil roles under his belt that would make him perfect for Ares. But he lacks the look and is aging. But I would be fine with either. Ares would be the primary antagonist and would bring war to the Amazons. After witnessing Diana’s power on Earth he sends, Deimos to kill her while he tries to manipulate the Amazons.

Lucy Lawless as Circe

In the original DC Comics continuity (prior to the Crisis on Infinite Earths), Circe is a centuries-old enchantress who is kept young by an elixir called vitae. It is made from a special combination of plants and herbs. While living on the island Aeaea, Circe gains magical powers. Circe is very skilled at turning men into any animal resembling their personalities, and, for her crimes against humankind, the Amazon Queen Hippolyta banished her to Sorca, "an island planet in space, where she could do no harm".

Lawless is a hot woman with a vindictive and strong look. As Xena, she showed exactly the type of warrior bad ass needed for this role. Circe would be the love of Hades and serve as a messenger between Hades and Ares. In the end she would have a heated showdown with Hippolyta.

Jason Isaacs as Hades

Hades did not figure frequently in the adventures of Wonder Woman until the end of the first volume. Hades was tricked by the Anti-Monitor into making a pact with Ares to conquer Olympus. The plot was thwarted when Persephone, inspired by the love between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor, went to him to profess openly her love. Hades pulled out of the scheme, and Steve Trevor freed the gods while Wonder Woman engaged Ares in final combat.

Isaacs has the true face of evil and as papa Malfoy he shows the true essence of evil necessary for the god of the underworld. In this version, he would be more like the Justice League incarnation where he was a bad ass god. In the first movie he would only serve as a behind the scenes guy working for Ares and would be like Moriarty in “Sherlock Holmes.” But the end would set him up for a possible sequel.

So I was going to write an outline for a movie to this to make it a better article, but everything I came up with was too much like the animated movie. So if you want to read what I think a movie should be like, then read the captions under the pictures to read everyone’s involvement in the movie. Hope you liked it.

@SoulEater-Yeah Sewell was originally going to be my only choice, but I thought people say he looks nothing Like Ares.

@Gambit-Thanks man. Damn I didn't think of Purefoy, but that's a really good choice. I could really see it after seeing Solomon Kane. But Sewell is my favorite choice for the role.

@DDD-Thanks man that means a lot. Yeah Sewell is the better choice, but I thought people wouldn't like that he looks nothing like Ares. Isaacs was always my number one choice for Hades I just didn't know who to cast in the other roles. I didn't originally like Jodi. I was gonna have Jessica Biel for the part. But after watching more of her stuff. I could really see her in the role.

No to Wonder Woman(too old,Cobie Smulders or Jaimie Alexander)and Hippolyta(too old,Lucy Lawless).
Rufus Sewell is good for Ares but he is a better Lex Luthor!
The rest are pretty good!

Jodi is just the right age for WW!
And she actually can fight...for real!
Plus she looks exactly like her!

Nice work!
I agree with you that Damon should have been Cap. He just seems like he would have been so perfect for it.

@NightAvenger-I think Smaulders is completely wrong for the role. She hasn't had any great roles and she just isn't ready for this. And since Alexander would do well but they should go with someone that isn't already in a CBM. As for Hippolyta, most people think carter is the perfect choice and I agree. I could never see Sewell as Lex Luthor. He just doesn't look the part.

@LEE-Thanks a lot man. Yeah I remember you always supported O'Keff for the role but I just got into the choice. Check out my Fantastic Four casting down the section. Would love to hear what you think.

@DDD-Dude I totally agree. I don't see how everyone wants a person that's young for a part that should be played by a seasoned woman actor.

@BIGBMH-Yeah it kinda sucks that Damon didn't get it. Hopefully Evans can prove us wrong about what most think about his casting.

ROMACK-Thanks a lot man great to hear.

Chris McLEllan-Haha man but we can hope. I could see him in a CBM if the right one came to him. And in this he would be kind of a lead role. He would be the bad ass love interest haha.

Anil Rickley-Beckinsale was going to be my choice but I thought she was better for Catwoman or Talia Al Ghul. But I think O'Keef has potential even though it may be hard to see. She can play a bad ass female role and could be good in fight scenes.

Blackreverand-Thanks man glad you like it so much. I would like to see a Wonder Woman movie. I think it could be done well with the right people behind it.

I just don't like O'Keefe's look. She doesn't look that much like WW to me. Perhaps it is her crooked jawline/face. She just doesn't do it for me. Please note I did not try to find unflattering pictures of her. Just pictures that show her crooked face more than other angles of photos taken. They would also need to pad or give her a boost to pull off the boobs, which is doable.

@Ranger I agree. No to WW but I think O'Keefe would be great as Big Barda.

Also no to Damon as Steve Trevor and Captain America. I do think he would be great as the Captain America villain Flag Smasher though.

@Ranger14-Well man to each his own haha. People are pretty divided on that choice so I don't think it's gonna be really easy to sway anyone either way. By the way I don't see the crooked face thing man haha.

@Dmon-Dude she would do well as Big Barda, but I also really like her for WW. I think he would've been a really good Captain America. He has the look and the muscle, and the ability to lead in a movie.

@FreakyBatman-Thanks man. I actually made a pick of Odette Yustman for Donna Troy, but I thought she fit better for a sequel.

Batman@ It's all subjective and individual perspectives. Hmm...here I thought the crooked face is so obvious in the photos I posted. The right side of her face sags or droops lower than the left side of her face. It starts from her chin up. Her face just doesn't scream WW to me.

angelina as a supporting cast? think again

she is more like the wonder woman to lead the role,

wonder woman is not a girl next door, she's not someone you just see at the mall.. she command presence and who else would be perfect to potray her but angelina

if not angelina i think kim director can be wonder woman, jodi who ever that girl is, she looks more like a villian than a hero
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 7/14/2010, 10:29 PM
Angelina is waaaaaay too scrawny to play the part of an Amazon warrior princess. I don't think she has the frame and body to be able to put on much weight to look the part.
