Is Krypton still around for Man of Steel?

We all know the story of Superman- "Rocketed to Earth as an infant from the doomed planet of Krypton." But is he? Based on previous scripts and possible clues in the new trailer, we may be looking at a radical departure from the origin of our Last Son of Krypton.

With marketing for Man of Steel starting to ramp up, we've been getting outstanding new images and bits of plot that appear to add up to an amazing movie event. Like many of you, I was gobsmacked by Trailer #3. It's iconic imagery and impressive (and Williams-less) music combined to bring me nearly to tears. We may finally get the Superman movie we've wanted all our lives.
But a couple of details jumped out at me, and the more I think on them the more I am concerned we will have to deal with a major change in Superman's story. Is it possible that Zack Snyder and Co. have left Krypton intact? Here are the things that, to me, are danger signs.

First
The Official Description:
"Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here?"
There is no mention of Krypton's destruction. This could be a minor wording choice, or it could be an intentional omission.

Second
Genetic Engineering and War
In the Entertainment Weekly article this week we found out that Kryptonians are genetically engineered, and that Kal El is a forbidden exception to this rule.
In Trailer 3 we see some of the war on Krypton and we can assume it is over Kal El's birth. (It's a leap, but not a huge one given what we know.) The scenes where Jor El and Lara are sending him away are beautiful, but again give no indication that Krypton is coming apart (structurally, at least)

Third
The Trial of Zod
Brief, but powerful. "You think your son is safe?" And then a manacled Zod shouting "I will find him!" To me, this means the trial takes place after Kal El is sent to Earth. Was he sent to Earth simply to hide him from Zod?

Forth
Ships
If Zod and his followers are in the Phantom Zone and Krypton is gone, where/why/how did they get all those ships? Let's say that they need to be on a ship to survive in this version of the Phantom Zone. That makes sense to me. But why give them ships that have weapons?

Fifth
Superman Flyby
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_Flyby#Superman:_Flyby
All of these concerns kind of point in the direction of a war-torn Krypton still surviving. But they're minor compared to the dead Superman: Flyby script and Hollywood's tendency to recycle ideas. Krypton is very much still alive in this Ratner/McG/JJ Abrams-spawned abomination. Will this concept find new life in Man of Steel?

I love the character of Superman, and I don't mind change. I think it's necessary to keep the concept fresh and relevant. But any change that alters the core of a character is just too much. Superman is a stranger in a strange land. He's all alone in a world full of people. It forms his character almost as much as the Kents do. With a home planet still in existence (and full of potential super-threats against Earth) why wouldn't he go back? On the selfish side he wouldn't have any reason not to. On the altruistic side, he would have to return to Krypton in order to save Earth from continued attack.

I truly, deeply hope I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere (can't remember where so I may be wrong) that Zod and co were in the Phantom Zone but escaped when the planet was destroyed.

I think it's a great change to have Jor-El and send Kal-El away not to save him from the planet exploding, but to save him from the fate that Kryptonians were facing - genetic engineering and theoretical slavery. On Earth, he can be free.

I think it'd be interesting if Krypton was still around by the time Zod gets to Earth, but is destroyed by Brainiac in either the sequel's prologue or in between films.

Tainted- I could live with that, I think.

Maybe I'm just still jaded and gun-shy from Superman Returns, and I'm looking for boogey men that aren't there?

I hope it rocks.

I think leaving Krypton intact would be awesome, if done right. Maybe Zod broke out of prison and won the war and now controls Krypton, which means Supes couldn't just go back since in his planet he wouldn't be anymore powerful than other kryptonians and he would be hunted because, after all, he is Zod's enemy.

Maybe krypton is still physically there, but is used up basicly after decades of civil war like cybertron.

In Superman Earth One, Tyrell is helped by a alien (Brainiac) to destroy Krypton. He then is sent out to find Ka-Lel. I am sure Brainiac is involved. The Trailer was epic but predictable as we knew Zod will fight him on Earth. Snyder & Goyer said its funny how no one knows how the story will unfold. I truly believe Brainiac is involved in a shadowy Force.

Yes it say Krypton is Destroyed. End of Story.

TheBeard- I'm starting to warm up to that idea.

Librarian & Brainiac- It's possible the toy packaging is marketing misdirection. It's been done before to preserve plot elements, like with Batman Begins and Ra'a Al Ghul.

And I really would love for Brainiac to be involved.

@Hodor

Superman Flyby script hit the net few years back and Krypton did not explode...fans went mad, WB knows this and that's 1 reason it was scrapped.

Yes to Brainiac in some form in MOS

By the way good article. The ship that is in the arctic is not his ship he came in....do u think Jor-el left that there when (if) he scouted for planets?

Thanks. And That's another good question. Where the f*ck DID the Fortress of Solitude-ship come from?

I wouldn't mind it, I think a great character moment would be Clark trying to find Krypton, but he finds that it is gone, barren and destroyed

First off, I'm not ever really been a Superman fan. I've always leaned more towards Bats. Supes was always too much of a boy scout to me and, at the time I was growing up, he was going through his "over powered" phase.

That being said, the trailers for this movie have actually impressed me and have me looking forward to it. I think the changes that we know about so far have improved the character. The whole genetically engineered/versus natural is a nice touch.

Now, I doubt that your whole "krypton is still around" thing is true. One, why would Jor-El and his wife send his son away to a distant planet if something as catastrophic as the planet exploding wasn't about to happen? I think the evidence that is presence with the new fortress of solitude being a scout ship from krypton is evidence of this. That scout ship was looking for an alternative planet for the kryptons or Kal-El solely, to survive on.

Also, a war over a Jor-El and his wife giving birth to a baby? Really? That's a stupid reason for a war. And why would they throw Zod in the phantom zone for going after Jor-El who apparently broke the krytonian way and had a baby the old fashion way instead of the accepted test tube way? No, that war is probably a result of Zod trying to take over the planet.

Hmm. See, it would be okay if Krypton was still around...as long as it was a dead world. No more Kryptonians-Zod and cohorts break out, steal a ship and try to find a place to re-create Krypton.
