If you take all the rumors surrounding the next Batman movie, it looks like the odds on favorite to be one of the villains and maybe even the main villain is Black Mask.
Black Mask's origin story goes along with Christopher Nolan's realistic world. Black Mask was born as Roman Sionis to one of Gotham City’s elite families. Growing to hat his parents he later on kills them and inherited the family fortune and business, a Cosmetic company. Roman brings the company to bankruptcy do to a few bad decisions. The company is bought by "Wayne Enterprises". Roman furious at the humiliation he had suffered by the hand of the Wayne family, he decides to take revenge. Roman carved a mask from his father coffin, becoming "Black Mask" and after turning to the crime life he successfully become one of the biggest mob bosses in Gotham City.
As his plan is set in to motion Black Mask starts to kidnap and kill "Wayne Enterprises" executives. Forcing Bruce to bring back Batman even if Batman is on the "run". Being the main villain and the catalyst to the events of the movie we can have other villains working for him like the Riddler, Killer croc, Bane or/and Deadshot.
The Riddler will actually be a great villain for Black Mask to interact concerning Black Mask origin, as the Riddler try to solve the "riddle" of the Black Mask, his past and his obsession with Bruce Wayne. We can have Black Mask confess his crimes and past to the riddler. Also the Riddler can even uncover Batman's identity by solving the riddle - why would Batman help Bruce Wayne to defeat Black Mask?
During the movie Batman dismantle Black Mask's organization until he finally found Black Mask in his high building office. In their showdown Black Mask lit his office on fire, in an attempt to kill Batman and himself. But he fails and Batman is able to save him, but in the fire the mask burns onto his face and disfigured him.
Now I know that the fan favorite for playing Black Mask is Leonardo DiCaprio and working with Christopher Nolan in the past would make this even a bigger possibility because Nolan likes to work with the same actors he worked with in past films. I do think Leonardo is a hell of an actor and can be a great Black Mask but I don't think that he is the best pick.
In the comics Black mask is around Bruce's age and they even played together when they were kids so DiCaprio also fit to the age of Black Mask. But I do feel that Christopher Nolan will want to make Black Mask older then Bruce, Probably in the age of Falcon in the movie so it will look more realistic that Black Mask took all the power in the city. And you can do the same story with the change that Black Mask seeks revenge on Thomas Wayne by taking down "Wayne Enterprises" and on Thomas's son Bruce.
So Black Mask will be older then Bruce around the age of 60. When I look at the group of actors who got the acting ability and look to play Black Mask only one name stand out as an amazing Black Mask and that name is no other then Al Pacino!!!
Black Mask is foremost a mob boss who need to reflect power, respect and so called mafia references. How is better to do so if not the actor who was votes the best mafia movie actor of all time Al Pacino.
I think Nolan will go for that kind of version of an older more respected mob boss and when he does I think that this fan pic is the best one.
