My theory of who Mike Massee is playing in the credits scene of "The Amazing Spider-man"

From what i've seen in the movie I think i've got a solid theory to who Michael Massee is playing, hit the jump to find out.

In an interview with Marc Webb, he says that the next movies villain is hinted at throughout the "Amazing Spider-man". I think I picked out a few of the Hints which has lead me to one Villain that "Fits the boot" so to say.

Hint#1) The Car thief had a weird device(sorry couldn't find a picture)that he used to bypass the cars security. I don't know were he got it, and he does not seem smart enough to build it himself. So where did he get the car hacking device? even Captain Stacy said he was tracking the car thief to find the leader of the Thief Auto, so who could the leader be?

Hint#2) The cops had a strange sort of bullets that they were firing at spider-man. They seemed to be some sort of sticky-taser-darts. As far as I know these are not common issue in police forces, so where did they get them?

These first 2 hints beckoned the question,"Which Villain is smart enough to build such tech, and would supply it to both Criminals and Officers?". At that point I had a pretty good idea of who it could be. Then the credits scene only seemed to confirm my suspicion when i saw the final hint in this image of Micheal Massee.

His face and trench coat all but gave it away for me, I believe he is none other than

THE TINKERER
the tinkerer, a classic spider-man villain, was a scientist that was known for making deadly weaponry and then supplying it to the highest bidder, (most of them being other villains) while keeping himself armed with some of his best.

Here are the reasons why The Tinkerer "Fits the boot":

1) He could of easily built the tech and given it to the thief and cops just as part of his usual persona in the comics or as a bigger and grander plan.

2) As I said above the trench coat was the big revealer for me, the costume that Mike Massee is wearing is similar to resent and modern outfits the tinkerer has wore in "Spectacular Spider-man" and "Ultimate Alliance 2".

Not like the khakis and sweater he originally had.

3)As a scientist character it will be quite easy to introduce him as someone who worked with Curt Connors and Peters dad, and someone who works for Norman Osborn like Marc Webb said the villain was.

4)And finally the Villain I have heard most theorized is Mysterio because Micheal Massee goes to and from Connors cell with a lightning flash without being seen. Well in the comics Mysterio is actually the Tinkerers henchmen and gets his tech from the Tinkerer, Mysterio only added his own special effects knowledge to make it seem he was using magic and not tech. So having Massee's exit so recognizable as Mysterios powers only furthers the possibility of my claim. Tinkerer could have easily whipped up the tech to do that. Plus who knows maybe we might even seem Mysterio in a future film if Tinkerer is in the mix.

I personally think that the Tinkerer would be a badass villain to have in a movie. let me know in the comment what you think of my theory and if you agree or disagree.

I DONT THINK SO, BUT IT WOULD STILL BE VERY COOL.

Your points weren't connected at all. The car thief's device has nothing to do with bullets. You were just in desperate need of an article someone actually gave a [frick] about.

He would be cool to have as a side villain, amd it fits with what Ifans said about the guy being an associate of Norman.

He could work for Oscorp/Norman.

Not a bad theory, im just not sure about him giving tech to the cops and im certainly not sure about making him involved with the car thief. It would be much like Spidey 3, where they throw in the fact that another villain was involved with thw car thief in a later movie. Didnt worl out too well last time, y'know?

@ redhood

Why does the thief's device need to be connected with the bullets? The point is that they are both advanced tech. The tinkerer doesnt just build one type of thing and thats it. He builds all types of tech. No need to be so rude to the guy, you're argument makes less sense than his.

Am I the only one that sees a resemblance between that picture of the man in the shadows and the silhouette picture of Norman Osborn in the lobby of Oscorp?

@simonsays I thought he had an uncanny resembalance to Richard Parker.

Yeah it does. The hair is what looks similar to the picture of Osborn. I really have no idea who it is at this point. Originally I thought it was pretty obvious it was Osborn since they referred to him several times throughout the movie.

I dont think there would be any question that it was Norman if not for Ifans saying otherwise.

As it is, there is absolutely nothing to go on. Nothing gives even a hint of who it is. Electro and Mysterio were the only two that even KINDA made sense, but considering how old the guy is, they're both ruled out.

When I was watching it, it didnt appear to me that he appeared and disappeared as the lightning struck. It seemed to just illuminate the room and showed that there was someone standing in the shadows.

That would also be my guess, that the villian would be Norman, given the fact that Webb stated they hinted at the villian throughout the movie. Well how many times did they mentioned Norman, or Oscorp. That theory sounds more like Norman as the villian, and maybe a secondary villian. But they have to have the Green Goblin at some point, because we all know they will kill Gwen. Look at the TDK, they killed Rachel a main character which really impacted the story.

Classic Nolanite. Compare a classic comic book character, Peter Parker's first real love, who was killed, ending a chapter in Peter's life, and the Silver Age of Comics, to a character who was made for the movies and hasn't appeared in mainstream comics, like Agent Coulsn.

Nice theory, really caught my attention. I would like to think of the mystery character as a lesser known villain. I think it could be The Spot. He uses " spots " to teleport himself anywhere. I thought that was why there was so much emphasis on his hands.

I like your theory.

I don't like that they were so vague that even big spidey fans have no idea who the hell it was.

@Ghostt

True. Thats more annoying than clever.

@Jaywing

Blame whoevers idea it was to even suggest that vague after-credits scene in the first place

If it was the Tinkerer, you would be right, but it would probably would be a little let down.

I think its a good theory, may not be true but it could be. And it's just another possibility none the less.

Silvermaine is also a possibility, I hope they arenot just trying an unpopular villain like the Dark Knight trilogy

I really like this pick, fun, original.

I'm sticking with the Jackal. It stays in line with the DNA testing, the mystery of who Peter and his family really are and the "do you think this is an accident" line that was in the trailers but not the movie.

Nice theory man, seems to work but personally, dont think they'd use him.
@redhood- shut up. You dont need to connect them, like corndog said, its advanced tech
CaptainAmerica31

Good theory honestly all I know is Norman/GG is gonna be a villian in this series. It could be The Jackal, but then they would have to do Ben Riley and all that. It could just be the chameleon in disguise as Norman Osborn. The beginning of the movie, when we see Richard Parker's office window? Notice that there is a small crack in the window not a big one like a man jumping through. It was like a man punched through the glass rather than jumping in the room. The desk was from the window and I don't see how a man could extend his arm that far. *wink *wink I think Dr. Otto Octavius is the guy who broke into the house because who else's arm could burst through a window and extend that far? So I know Dr. Octavius stole the stuff, so he works for Osborn in this but I doubt he's gonna be a villian, but maybe just a side character.
