Chris Nolan's bringin The Man of Steel back to the big screen; here's my take on who should be in it

Im hoping Chris Nolan uses the Superman: Birthright comic as a starting point for the new movie, frankly its been the best take on the iconic charcter's origin in years. Anyways, enough with the talk, let's get down to casting!

Clark Kent aka Superman - Henry Cavill

He has the right dramatic chops to play the role, and visually he has a very solid, hero-like look to him. I expect if he gets the role, that he should put on a lot of muscle; atleast get to the same level as Chris Evans has for Cap.
Anyways, personality-wise, Clark Kent is the real person, Superman is just a symbol; so basically a slightly toned down version of the John Byrne Clark Kent/Superman.

Lois Lane - Olivia Wilde

She can handle both drama and humour; essentially I think Wilde should take a cue out of Erica Durance's take on Lois, frankly that was more or less spot on, but I think Wilde can make it less camp, and more realistic. Anyways, she has that fun and fiesty look to her, a bit to flat chested for some, but come on this is gona be a PG-13 movie, not like where gona see any boobies now is it? Anyways, as for the Lois, Clark, Superman love triangle; Lois should have a crush on Superman like someone would for a celebrity, but her and Clark should have some light flirtation with one another from the get go.

James 'Jimmy' Olsen - Anton Yelchin

Admitedly, I have gone with the common choice here, but hes seems to fit the bill. If Shia LaBoef was a bit younger however, he would be my first choice. Anyways, I imagine this incarnation of Jimmy to be tougher, and in particular for him and Lois to have a brother-sister friendship, which should be reasoning for Lois to teasingly call him Jimmy; something that pisses him off.

Perry White - Alec Baldwin

He can deliver humour and intensity needed for the character. Before I was stuck between him and Ray Wise, but Baldwin just has that raw presence.

Ron Troup - Omar Epps

I imagine this to be a smaller supporting role, end of the day I chose Epps, because he seems to have a sensitive/thoughtfull look to him.

Steve Lombard - Cant remember his name... lol...

Again another supporting role, I chose him because he can play an arrogant asshole, and with all of the Daily Planet staff I feel as they can act as a good comic relief.

Cat Grant - Adriene Palecki

Visually she's perfect for the role. I also think she has the right balance of sweet and sultry to pull it off aswell; her role should primarily be flirting with Clark to piss Lois off.

Lex Luthor - Jude Law

Originally I was going to go with Paul Bettany, but I think Law has the right can handle that right balance of arrogant genius and charming prick. He definetly has that fire in his eyes, to pull of that smugness that everyone thought would make Billy Zane a perfect candidate for the role.

Morgan Edge - Tom Berenger

I choose him because he has that same menacing quality that Rutger Haur has. I imagine him to be the owner of the Daily Planet who has some criminal ties. He should be Lex's Godfather, just to fill up a back story and how and why Lex's father was murdered.

The Kents - Bruce Greenwood & Mary Steenburgen

They both have that warm-hearted quality to them, and I believe they are right to give Clark thier sage like wisdom, essentially a pivotal influence in him becoming Superman.

The Els - Vigo Mortensen & Maria Bello

This role should be limited to flashbacks, and left for any potential sequels that explore Clark's kryptonian roots, and General Zod. These two actors work well together, and frankly I think Mortensen maybe the only guy who could outshine Brando's Jor-El.

General Sam Lane - Stephen Lang

He's probably one of the toughest old guys around. His role in Avatar makes him a perfect candidate for the General.

John Corben aka Metallo - Jensen Ackles

I feel that he can bring a certain bad ass swagger to the character, essentially making him a likeable villain. Visually I imagine him to have kryptonite arc reactor like the Smallville counterpart, but I imagine him to also take a page out of the Lady Terminator's book and have nanotech weapons. Essentially in the film, he should be the solution to Superman once everyone starts thinking hes leading an alien invasion.

General Zod - Jason Isaacs

He's worked well with Mortensen before, and he has a very menacing look to him. He should definetly be able to top Stamp's Zod. Like Jor-El and Lara, I imagine this role to be limited via flashbacks; his sentence and maybe an after the credits scene of him escaping the phantom zone could help serve for a sequel.

Anyways, thats my take on the Superman reboot, gimme your thoughts!

Another Henry Cavill-Olivia Wilde Superman-Lois
casting...very original (sarcasm).

Another 6'1" scrawny Superman! Wonderful!

What is this the thousandth one of these!

When will there ever be a real manly Superman
on the big screen again???

I gotta agree with DDD, I feel like I've seen this cast so many times. It's been done to death.

Sorry man, but unless your gonna use your own original ideas I wouldn't bother :(

As long as you've got CAVIL or ROUTHY as SUPERMAN thats all that matters! : P

Nah... he is an EPIC pic tho!

Cool stuff!

CAVILL approves!

: p

Damn, we'd be lucky to get Henry Cavill as Cark Kent, he's such a good and versitile actor!

6'1'' is tall enough for SUPERMAN, knowing Hollywood they'll cast a 5 foot nothing!

Actors also pump up for role, CAVILL will too (thats whats actors do), recent stuff shows he's pumping up anyways, he's the next BALE I tell ya!

TUDORS and other stuff shows he has the chops, he gonna make it BIG!

I've gotta admit, seen that Ackles and Pa Kent an Lex a lot but excellent CAT role and some other gold too up there!

Can't see WILDE tho, well I can but we need a stronger female lead I think, anyways GR8 work @ CLAP!

to all those guys who are critical of my casting of Cavill, end of the day hes a damn good actor, and will definetly be able to give a better performance than Routh in Returns, besides all hes got to do is put on some more muscle, and if the height really is an issue (because 6'1'' is tall enough for me) they can make him appear taller like they do for Tom Cruise in all his movies

nice casting i personal dont like Olivia Wilde as Lois Lane cause shes abit too skinny nowadays. i would say Lizzy Caplan would make a better Lois Lane. also im not sure about Jude Law as Lex Luthor. but overall nice casting tho

No matter how often Cavill gets fan cast as Superman, I wonder aloud, do people actually look beyond his face?! The guy don't have the physical build! He barely looks like Superman/Clark Kent, too.

Yep Olivia Wilde as Lois perfect :)
Loved your pic for Zod!

It's not about making the actor look taller for this role. It's about him having a powerful and imposing stature and frame. That has nothing to do with adding lifts in his shoes or changing camera angles and Tom Cruise didn't play any Superhero roles that required him to have that type of physique, they just wanted to make his shorty self look taller. I'm bigger than Cavill and I don't consider myself close to the Man of Steel stature. I would like to see a 6'3" FRAME minimum. Someone with a Joe Manganiello frame.

Cavill is too boyish/metrosexual looking for my taste. We need a guy with machismo playing the Man of Steel. Yes, he can act better than Routh. That doesn't take much.

We need DDD's manly man Man of Steel.

clap @ Exactly dude, well apart from the ROUTH bit lol! ; P

An don't worry, its mainly the WELLINGTONBOOT lovers that love a cardboard actor that mainly puts down CAVILL!

They wouldn't know a decent actor if he kicked 'em in the balls! : D

Lee@ You really need to pay attention and quit using the same "lame" comeback. I have never endorsed Welling for Superman. I have also asked you a number of times to give an example of Routh acting with any kind of range or strong show of emotion. You won't be able to do it. He has been blah in every role he has had. I used to teach television and film acting, so I know a decent actor better than most and some of my students were better actors than Routh.

JUDE LAW IS PERFECT!

Im in the side of older Superman, but if they go with younger, Cavill is great choice. Daniel Cudmore should try to get the role too! He is pretty big guy and has the looks!

Lizzy Caplan as Lois Lane
and Paul Bettany as John Corben / Metallo (He can create very cold performances)

i like it, apart from the bald guy
YourMomNaked
YourMomNaked - 9/26/2010, 4:33 PM
Too many of these fan cast go by just the face. Cavill is NOT bulky enough and barely has the look! Why not cast Elijah Wood?! He's a good actor. Besides, he has dark hair. They'd need to get a body double for Cavill, too, so why not?! Joking!!!

@AlexDeLarge666...Law has the same issues that Cavill has: no build and barely passable looks. Maybe worse, because he's more well known. Cudmore on the other hand has the look and build, but have you ever heard him talk? He'd make an excellent Superman when his balls drop ;) Don't get me wrong, I like him, but his voice doesn't match his presence.

AlexDeLarge87 - 9/26/2010, 6:29 PM
YourMomNaked@ Probably right about Law?!:/... I dont know nothing about Cudmore´s acting skills or voice cause the only movies where i have seen him is X-Men 2 and X-Men: Last Stand and he didnt speak very much in them, but his build tells me he would be interesting Superman. Gotta see him try real acting.
I think under Nolan´s and someone other good director´s guidance he would be decent. The looks are perfect!
