The DCCU: Speed

The DCCU: Speed

The Flash is an underrated character with an outdated story. In recent news, WB decided to make a terrible casting for the Flash. On top of that, they get the team that brought us the 2011 Flop of Green Lantern to write the story. Like it or not that's how its gonna go. This is how I would do the flash story and casting. I kept it original and I hope you like it.

I just want to start off by saying Flash is my favorite DC character so everything I write or put is just because that's how I would like the story done in a movie. Enjoy.

Work Title: Speed

Story

Barry Allen is a trouble maker. He messes around in school and plays pranks on people. He seems to not care for anything. One thing he cares about, though, is his mother. He always obeys her and respects her, and loves spending time with her. On the day of his 17th birthday, Barry goes to school and when school ends, he decides to go to the arcade with his friends. He stays there until 8:00 when he realizes that he was supposed to have dinner with his mom at 7:30. He walks home and finds his house surrounded with police officers. He runs past the cops in front of his house and runs through the yellow tape. The whole house has been flipped, with glass shattered and ornaments on the ground. He walks into the living room and sees something that gives him a shock. His mother has been shot in the stomach and is laying on the floor dead. There is a cake on the table that reads "Happy Birthday Barry". On the table is a letter with his name on the front. Barry bursts into tears and while a police officer tries to comfort him, he runs out of the house. A police car follows him and stops in front of him. An officer, by the name of Darryl Frye, runs out of the car and runs toward Barry, grabbing him and holding him back. As Barry cries, Darryl keeps saying, "It's okay, it's okay", while he himself begins to sob. Darryl was his mother's boyfriend. After that night, Darryl took Barry in as his own and raised him as his own.Barry went home and opened the letter from his mother. The letter read: "Barry, I love you. I'm sorry things have been tough lately and I promise that they will get better. We'll go to the arcade tomorrow and you can play all day! Love you, Mom."

15 Years Later

Barry Allen is working at a government research facility in Central City. The facility is run by Dr. Jason Garrick. He's working as a chemical specialist. In his lab, there are two other scientists: Lisa Snart and Eobard "Bart" Thawne and then an intern named Jason Rusch. Barry is basically the protege of Dr. Garrick. Together, they have designed a concept called The Microcomputer-Axion Mercury, or M.Ax Mercury. The device creates an almost endless energy source by splitting the atoms of the element Mercury. Barry has created the prototype. Around this time, Barry starts getting serious with a girl, Iris West. Iris' father was Barry's professor in college. To show their commitment, Iris invites Barry to dinner with her father. At the lab, Thawne has successfully configured the device. He has built a containment unit surrounding the device to stop it from releasing radiation. Barry, Garrick, and Thawne start up the device. The device starts up wonderfully. Garrick tells Barry to raise the power. Thawne advises not to. Barry continues to raise the power and the device seams to have overheated since it starts releasing smoke. Barry and Lisa go into the containment unit to check out the device. Out of nowhere, the device starts up again. The door shuts to prevent any radiation from entering the room, a design Thawne put in. They are suddenly lifted up when a burst of energy hits them and passes through them. They are both shot back towards the glass when Thawne manages to turn the device off. Barry was comatose for a month. In that time, Darryl Frye and Iris West visited him. After that month, Barry woke up. Darryl told him that he has been named Captain of the Central City Police Department. Lisa remains comatose. Barry, once feeling well, decides to go back to the lab and see what has happened. He talks with Garrick and they follow up. Barry goes to visit Lisa at the hospital and he is greeted by Thawne. Thawne punches him and blames him for everything. Around this time, Barry realizes that he's vibrating. Time is moving extremely slow for him and he can't control his movements. Barry goes to visit Dr. Garrick at the lab to perform tests. There, Garrick tells him that every time he has these vibrations, he's at risk of being unstable. Using supplies at the lab Jason, Barry, and Garrick make a stabilization suit that conforms to the body's movements. Federal agents come to Barry's home to question him and to see what is going on. Barry decides to test out the suit when he finds out that there is a bank robbery. He goes to see the situation and stops the robbery. Initially, the policemen start shooting at him and he tells them that there is nothing to fear. Darryl Frye tells them to lower their weapons. Amanda Waller, a federal agent, and another agent, Owen Mercer, visit the Central City Police Department to check on Captain Frye. They talk about the new "hero" and Mercer reveals that Frye was the officer that put his father away in prison. Waller then goes to Barry to tell him that she's on to him. Around this time, Thawne hears about the recent news and immediately knows its Barry. He heads over to the lab in the middle of the night and no one is there. He walks towards the MAx Mercury Enclosure Lab and decides to do the same reaction that Barry did. He shuts himself inside and starts the reaction. At first, it doesn't go as it should and Thawne is instantly shot back. The Radiation blasts his face. Jason rushes in and stops it as quick as he can but the MAx bursts and radiates Thawne again. Thawne is able to stand up but his eyes are black and red. Jason calls the police. Thawne manages to lift the device, now cooled down, and break through the wall. Barry gets a call from the lab and rushes over. He is told what happened and immediately goes to check on Lisa Snart, to see if Thawne has gone to her Hospital room. As he arrives there, Thawne is sitting over Lisa's body. Barry asks him to recieve medical attention and Thawne tells him that he doesn't need it. Barry walks up to Thawne, as if to grab him and Thawne tackles Barry through three walls. Barry pulls out a ring, presses on it, and a suit wraps his entire body, then procclaiming, "It's On". Thawne and Barry fight in hyperspeed and then Thawne stops. He tells Barry, "I would fight with you but I'd much rather kill your girlfriend. You have a choice, save your girlfriend or save Jay Garrick. Barry races to save his girlfriend while Thawne has her and is about to vibrate his hand through her skull. Barry goes so fast that he beats the speed of sound and tackles Thawne through another wall. He is standing over Thawne asking, "Why are you doing this?". Thawne responds by stating that Barry ruined his life by putting his girl, Lisa, in a coma. Thawne then says, "You better hurry, I placed the MAx under the Lab and it's starting as we speak." As the machine starts, Barry runs to the Lab. He then notices that Thawne is trailing him. He speeds to the Lab and the reaction has already begun. Thawne catches up to him and grabs Jay Garrick. At this time, Garrick, Jason, Barry, and Thawne are all caught up in the reaction. Barry gets an idea to contain the radiation by running fast enough around create a tornado of sorts that would also contain it from releasing. He grabs Jason and throws him outside. Garrick then screams, "You do what you have to do to stop this, just let me take care of this." At that time, Garrick breaks free of Thawne's hold and he punches through the MAx device and releasing an energy burst that Barry contained by doing the tornado and the burst then returned back to the device, opening a wormhole and sucking in Thawne and Garrick as Barry screamed. Barry then slowed down and fell over, exhausted. Jason rushed to him and picked him up.

1 month later

After the events at the Lab, the Lab was closed. Jason said he was going to finish his studies at Ivy University and Barry was going to join Darryl at the CCPD, working as a Chemical Specialist. Iris publishes an article on the new hero, giving him the moniker of "The Flash", which is not a very creative one. Barry meets his new partner, James Forrest and his boss David Singh, who he says is very strict. Amanda Waller goes to see Barry to talk about what happened and Barry tells her that it happened so quickly, almost in a flash. He could not remember anything and Waller exits by saying, "I'm on to you... If you need anything, give us a call." As she exits she gives Barry a card with the acronym "A.R.G.U.S" on it. The story ends with a scene in which the camera focuses on Lisa Snart's face, in the hospital bed, and very quickly, her eyes open up.

The End

Costume Design

Director - Joseph Kosinski

Notable Works: Tron: Legacy, Oblivion
His Cinematography is superior to any other Director, other than Chris Nolan. Tron: Legacy and Oblivion were both masterpieces with beautiful displays, music, and shots. This guy needs to direct a CBM.

Screenplay - Max Landis

Notable Works: Chronicle
I chose him because unlike anyone else, this guy knows his comics. If you hear his "Death and Return of Superman" video on YouTube you would know where I'm going with this choice. His screenplay for Chronicle was fantastic and critically acclaimed.

Casting (In Chronological Order)

Barry Allen (Age 13) - Ty Simpkins

Notable Works: Insidious, Iron Man 3
This choice was made purely on looks and acting ability. His performances were great in Iron Man 3 and Insidious alike.

Nora Allen - Taylor Schilling

Notable Works: Orange is the New Black, The Lucky One
She has that right ability to play a mother and is a relatively unknown actress so this would work out great.

Darryl Frye - Michael Keaton

Notable Works: Batman, Batman Returns
A Comic Book Movie is not complete without Michael Keaton. A great actor loved by all CBM fans. When I thought about this character I immediately thought of Michael Keaton.

Barry Allen (Age 28) - Patrick J. Adams

Notable Works: Suits
Before anyone starts on about his inexperience or whatever, watch the first episode of Suits. He is AWESOME in that show in which he perfectly combines intellect with attitude and humor. After I chose him I couldn't go back to thinking Ryan "Mute" Gosling and Chris "Overly Casted in every Fan Cast" Pine were good choices.

Dr. Jay Garrick - Jeff Daniels

Notable Works: Looper, The Newsroom
He's a great actor who can deliver that mentor role that we would like Jay to have for Barry and also be able to portray a genius (exclude his role in Dumb and Dumber).

Irirs West - Anna Kendrick

Notable Works: 50/50, Pitch Perfect
An Oscar nominated actress who can deliver humor and smarts. Need I say more?

Jason Rusch - Donald Glover

Notable Works: Community
A fan favorite for his work on Community. He is a superb actor with comedic twists and intellectual input, I didn't even consider another person.

Dr. Eobard Thawne - Nikolaj Coster Waldau

Notable works: Oblivion, Mama, Came of Thrones
The guy has perfected the art of playing a likable villain. Another thing, if Eobard is a foreign scientist in this adaption, Nikolaj's natural Danish accent would serve fine. He's Jaime Lannister, what more needs to be said?

Dr. Lisa Snart - Whitney Able

Notable Works: Monsters
She was great in Monsters and doesn't have that star quality which is great since she'll be in a hospital bed 60% of the movie.

Agent Amanda Waller - Gina Torres

Notable Works: Serenity, Firefly, Suits
Another Suits Star. I know, but I couldn't help myself. She's perfect, I mean, her attitude her lack of emotion, her professionalism, its all there. She's the whole package.

Agent Owen Mercer - Norman Reedus

Notable Works: The Boondock Saints, The Walking Dead
You're welcome for this one. Sucks no one thought of this first.

Ira West - Mandy Patinkin

Notable Works: Criminal Minds, Homeland
He's great on Homeland and I just love him as an actor.

James Forrest - Chi McBride

Notable Works: I,Robot, Human Target
He acts exactly like James Forrest from the comics and frequently plays police officers, this choice just seems ideal.

David Singh - Naveen Andrews

Notable Works: Lost, The Brave One
He plays Sayid on Lost and he would do wonders with this character. He can play a leader while being cold hearted and professional yet also showing a soft side. He's perfect.

And that was my first article.
Stay tuned for my Green Lantern pitch and Wonder Woman pitch. Coming Soon.

Not a bad idea--in fact, I could say this would make a good basis for a "Flash: Earth-One" graphic novel!

When you have a moment, check out my latest fancast: "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes" Season 3 Part 2. One of the episodes features Barry's pastiche in Squadron Supreme, Stanley "The Whizzer" Stewart.

No, God, I'm so sick of his mother's death. Barry Allen is not a tragic hero. Watch Justice League New Frontier if you want to know how to handle the Flash. Flash is a normal guy that gets powers. He becomes a hero because he was taught to be good not because his mother died or whatever.

PERFECT CASTING, congratulations! Patrick J. Adams is everything I look for in Barry Allen, specially his character in 'Suits'.

I disagree on the title (it should always have 'Flash' in it).

Not so crazy about the costume either.

The plot is good.

No... just no. Max Landis would NEVER do this it's way too unfaithful to the source material. Even Warner wouldn't be stupid enough to do this. Like alphadog said, you've completely missed the point of the character by making him tragic. Flash has never been and hopefully never will be a tragic character. It's not even the Flash anymore it's...
SPEED!

JorEllinator, Right, cause WB is definitely going to go with Barry spilling chemicals and then magically being struck by lightning and fighting giant gorrillas in a suit that comes out of a [frick]ING RING!

Yes, like they did a dying alien world sending a baby in a spaceship to Earth. The baby grows up and the bad aliens come to get his alien baby stroller to turn Earth into the alien's planet! The good alien (the baby) uses the baby stroller to take them into another dimension! But oh no! The bad alien leader is still there! So the good alien beats up and kills the bad alien. The good alien is a superhero! So, he goes somewhere where he can learn bad things going on in the world and he hides his secret identity wearing a pair of glasses!
Or like they did...
A little boy fell down a well and then he was scared of bats! His parents were killed so he went to prison and met the guy from Darkman! He trained him to be a ninja but they wanted to destroy his city so he blew up their house! He saved Darkman because he was his friend! He goes back to his city and dresses up as a bat and fights bad guys. A new bad-guy dressed as a scarecrow shows up and he works for Darkman! He's been putting chemicals in the water! Oh noes! Darkman has a weapon that turns the chemicals in the water into gas and it makes everyone scared! Oh noes! Darkman blows up the ninja-bat's house! Holy payback, Batman! Ninja-Bat goes to blow up a train and stop the gas machine. Ninja-Bat fights Darkman and blows up the train with Darkman in it! The city is saved! Ninja-Bat has a spotlight that shines on the clouds that makes it look like a bat because the commissioner wants to thank him for saving the city! The commissioner gives him a joker card and Ninja-Bat says in his gruff voice... "I'll look into it!" and he jumps of the building subsequently killing himself!

Silly concepts can still make good stories, just look at EVERY GOOD CBM EVER.

JorEllinator, though it does divert from the original story, he manages to create a story that fits the tone of Man of Steel. He brings Eobard Thawne and gives him a new origin while still keeping the badassness of the Reverse Flash and on top of that he brings Max Mercury, Jay Garrick Flash, and Barry Allen Flash into one movie. I'd call this a success

But even Man of Steel got the true essence of the character. Yon don't need to change nearly everything about the character to make it fit into a universe that is fairly faithful to its source material and almost takes direct influence from the comics ( John Byrne's Superman: Man of Steel) . Besides, This is poorly written as The Flash has no motivation to stop the bank robbery. In the comics, he is motivated to help people when his Mom's car breaks down and they're stuck in the middle of the highway. He asks why they don't just stop and help him. His mother basically tells him " son, if you ever have the power to help someone, even if it's a tiny problem like someone's car breaking down, you should do it." He takes that away with him and his mother has something to do with it but he isn't influenced by his mothers death.
