Pulp magazines (often referred to as "the pulps"), also collectively known as pulp fiction, refers to inexpensive fiction magazines published from 1896 through the 1950s. The typical pulp magazine was seven inches wide by ten inches high, half an inch thick, and 128 pages long. Pulps were printed on cheap paper with ragged, untrimmed edges.
The name pulp comes from the cheap wood pulp paper on which the magazines were printed. Magazines printed on better paper were called "glossies" or "slicks." In their first decades, they were most often priced at ten cents per magazine, while competing slicks were 25 cents apiece. Pulps were the successor to the penny dreadfuls, dime novels, and short fiction magazines of the 19th century. Although many respected writers wrote for pulps, the magazines are best remembered for their lurid and exploitative stories and sensational cover art. Modern superhero comic books are sometimes considered descendants of "hero pulps"; pulp magazines often featured illustrated novel-length stories of heroic characters, such as The Shadow, Doc Savage, and The Phantom Detective.

Aaron Eckhart as Doc Savage

Look at this man's chin! He was born to play Doc Savage!

Jon Hamm as The Shadow

Hamm would be perfect as the predecessor to Bruce Wayne. He's proven on Mad Men that he can play a debonair playboy with a dark secret.

Matthew Fox as The Phantom

Fox is suggested for a lot of roles, but this is the one he fits the most. His performance in Speed Racer gives you a nice preview of what his Phantom would be like.

Joe Manganiello as Tarzan of the Apes

I was never a fan of him as Superman, but he would be great as Tarzan. You could really believe he was raised in the jungle!

Emily Blunt as Jane Porter

Blunt would be great as Jane. She's one of my favorite actresses.

Edgar Ramirez as Zorro

Ramirez is a fantastic up and coming actor. He's got the right mixture of darkness, mystery and swashbuckling attitude for Zorro.

Chris Pine as The Lone Ranger

Pine is perfect for the quintessential western hero. Slap a mask on him and we're all set.

Adam Beach as Tonto

Why is Johnny Depp playing this role? Beach is a accomplished Native American Actor and would be great as Tonto.

this is great. thumbs up. And not that i disagree about Tonto but the argument could be made that Depp as Native American in him (i believe).

On a side note... a while ago i cast Tom Strong (a very pulp-like hero) and i miscast Tom. Hamm would be perfect for that role as well as Shadow.

Great ideas! i think I would like to see Hamm as Bruce Wayne in a television series. For the Shadow, with that nose, I suggest Adrien Brody.
