She claws at the ground, writhing in pain as the figure in black, the shadow, slashes her furiously. It screams "Death is not the end".
Behind them, a costumed man is dying inside, watching; knowing that she is helpless and is as good as dead. Another failure. He sighs, shaking his head. He would have to track him down later, and inform the cops of her murder. He would have helped her, but fear, for once, has made him freeze. He would be ripped to shreds too. He starts to leave, as he hears the shadow begin to tear her body to shreds. She is now unrecognisable.
He flees up the fire escape. Hard to believe this man was once a hero. Then he hears the sound of heavy but fast footsteps, coming towards him. The man ducks, as an axe is flung at him at high speed, barely avoiding it he realises the only way off this building is to jump. He jumps and falls through the air, feeling the cold raindrops and wind get caught in the heat pulsing from his body. He feels himself falling....falling....falling until he lands with an almighty crack.
The shadow seems to studying him for a minute, no movement at all; a stone statue in the darkness, waiting. Nothing comes from the man, and it decides to jump down. It lands like a feather next to him. Studying him, it comes to the conclusion that this is no ordinary man. The man smells different and the Shadow realises he must kill him before anything happens. Too late though as the man looks up at him and thrusts at the shadow with a knife, trying to stab him in the throat. He succeeds and blood instantly shots out. As the shadow screams in pain, he cries, "Who are you? How can you survive a fall from that height"? The man stands up, and slowly walks towards the Shadow and tries to get it on it's knees. " I am VEANGENCE" He screams as he punches the shadow's jaw with his fist, so hard that his jaw is left hanging.
As this man known as Vengeance takes a breath, he realises the fall took more out of him than he thought. He slips through an alleyway, hand rubbing is chest. Stumbling at a slower and slower pace. Finally he reaches his car. Sliding in, he takes another breath and removes his mask. The man picks up his I.D. card. Matt Mcardle. The fair skinned man, with brown hair and hazel eyes, on the card is staring at him. "I almost left him", he says to himself, "I was about to leave him, and he would of killed hundreds more people, just because I was scared". Where did this once heroic man go? Two years ago, he would have done anything to save that girl from the Shadow; and yet now he would rather save himself. Sobbing into his mask, he hears his phone ring. Picking it up he looks to see who it was. Carla.
“Hey Honey, how are you?"
“Where the hell are you?"
“I’ve just finished for the night"
“You said you were going out for a check-up"
“Yeh, I found him. He’s dead now"
“Really? You okay baby?"
“I’m okay; it's just ... he killed someone else"
“Oh ... Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah. I'm about to head off. Gonna phone the cops first"
"If you're sure, I'll see you when you get home"
He didn’t even say bye, just hung up. He checks himself, making sure he had healed properly. He had. The man calls the cops and takes a quick glance of the street. The blood on the street was being washed away by the downpour of rain. As he left, he didn't realise that it was only blood left on the street. No body.
Driving home, he notices that their dog wasn’t in his kennel. Strange. He goes closer, and he slowly begins to feel worried as he saw a red puddle begin at there door which was opened. He slowly walked in cautious, hoping his wife and kids were okay." Billy, Scott, Johnny its daddy come, it okay you can come out. As he turned the corner from the lobby to the kitchen he saw three dark figures hanging from the roof of the kitchen. He reluctantly switched the light on to find all three of his children hanging with knifes hanging out of them. Matt began to sob as he saw his whole life die before his eyes.
He was on his knees and head on the floor his mask removed and let out a harrowing scream to the world which (for whoever would of heard it) will feel the pain of a thousand life times echoing into their souls. Matt looked up as he saw the trail continue through the house into the darkness he put the mask back on as he began to walk, his breath getting heavier by the second with each step became even more of a release of thunderous anger.
Then a pain shot across his back as he turns to see there was nothing there. He could feel the blood dripping down. He would be fine in a couple of minutes once it had healed. He was heading towards the stairs, it was so dark. Then what felt like a truck, smashed into his face and a laugh from a lunatic began. "AHHHHHHHHHHHH", Matt roared wanting to find his wife. He was jumped again by the darkness, getting hit all over his body, leaving him winded. “SHOW YOURSELF", matt started hitting the walls as he climbed the stairs leaving debris lying behind him. As he reached the top of the stairs he heard whispers again "I’m here”, echoed through the upstairs, "NO wait I’m here, or here", and more cackling.
A figure burst through the doorway and with intense fury he connected a punch right into the monsters face. He had heard something crack but he would have to do more than that to keep him down. He laid into him with intense anger making sure to destroy his enemy. Matt bent down to remove the cloak and sees what his enemies face looked like "Screaming death is not the end"; He whipped back the cloak to reveal the bloodied face of his wife, followed by hysterical laughing.
He was in complete shock about what he had just done. Before he can do anything, the light switches on and he turns to see the monster for the first time. The obviously crazy, hideous man was a dark purplish colour; his teeth were broken and sharp - probably from biting and eating people- occasional ones looked like fangs. He looked like he could crush a man’s head with his bare hands. His clothes looked strange without the cloak, almost hunchback of Notre damn style.
His tongue slithering out of his foul mouth said, “Look at what you’ve done, you fool! You’ve killed your own wife! I could've taken care of her better,’’ He steps closer. “So much better". He was too hysterical to notice that Matt had blood pouring from his hand, because it was clenched so tight.
He grabbed the leg of this monster and flung him through the floor slamming all the way through to the basement. Matt dives at freefall fists pointed towards the ground aiming for the ribs. Feeling a force hit his face making him bounce in the air and a kick in the stomach pushing him through into there living room,his mask had came off and he began splattering the blood everywhere. He saw a fist come towards him, but raised an arm in time to stop it and they began trading and blocking punches and kicks so big the house began to shake.
Then Matt grabs the first thing near him ( a bucket) through it at the monster distracting him. Jumping over him he grabbed the thing by its throat an wrenched its neck with all his force. He was too big but it was beginning to choke. As it fell he let go jumping in front of it and smashing it in the face. Opening the monsters jacket he found knifes and and stole them aiming at the throat. He then was counter attacked with speed and thrust into the back wall but with strength holding on for dear life. This was a battle of sheer strength now. Struggling to cope with the pressure he gave one last push. Giving his all blood shot across his face as the monsters arms snapped like tooth picks and the screams began.
Staring into his eyes, he began screaming" I AM VENGEANCE, I AM VENGEANCE, I AM VENGEANCE" the monster began to sob as Matt picked up the knifes and a shadow crept across this things face. And with the force of every man on this planet he slashed and screamed as he murdered this monster to its full extent leaving it unrecogniseable any more. He lay there swimming in the blood as he began to drift further and further from sanity.
An hour later the cops arrive to a horrific sight. They find three hanging children and one woman beaten to death. The other, they dont know what it is as there is nothing left off it. Pieces of this creature splashed across the floor. And they find one man alone. Dead to the world whispering to himself "do you see him". They bring him to the the station but they find him so mad that they put him into an asylum. Many people have tried to bring this one upon a time family man and hero city back to the light. But if you look at him now through the glass of his cell all you see is him screaming. Shouting and sobbing at the window " DO YOU SEE HIM, HES KILLING AGAIN HELP ME I CANT DO THIS, HELP, HELP, HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP.YOU HAVE TO HELP ME FOR I AM VENGEEAAANNNCCCEEEE."
