Noah Hawley's DOCTOR DOOM Has A Finished Script But The Fox/Disney Merger Puts The Film At Risk

With Legion showrunner Noah Hawley set to direct, Fox's solo Doctor Doom film has caused a lot of excitement among fans. But will the Disney/Fox merger stop the project despite it having a finished script?

It's been nearly a full year since we first learned that Fox was developing a solo Doctor Doom movie with Legion showrunner Noah Hawley set to write and direct. Now, after all this time, Hawley has revealed there is a complete script for the film.

“I wrote a script that I really like and the studio really likes,” the Fargo showrunner told Vulture, before revealing whether he thinks the script is the best it can be. “It needs a little work.”

In spite of his desire to continue fine-tuning the screenplay, the Doctor Doom film will have to be put on hold as Hawley is currently working on his astronaut drama Pale Blue Dot, which will star Legion actor Jon Hamm. However, the biggest potential obstacle is the looming merger of Fox and Disney, which may very will bring an end to the director’s prospects.

“I know there’s also a little uncertainty, given the potential for a Disney merger and the fact that Marvel may regain control of X-Men and Fantastic Four. They may have a plan of their own in a desk drawer. I just don’t know. So, I think there’s sort of a sense of uncertainty.”

Despite this, the creative mind behind FX’s Legion remains optimistic, as he states, “I think the studio would like to make it.”

So, it seems clear that Noah Hawley has no intention of stopping work on the film until the studio officially declares the project dead - be it Fox or Disney making that decision.

...I don't know if I want this.

I want to want it. But... I don't know if I do.

Off-topic: I found this. I'm sure it was made before the movie came out, because they really undervalued Mantis and Wanda and overvalued Star-Lord.

Give me Mantis, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, and Doctor Strange, and I'll save seven bucks for the Baskin Robbins on the trip home.

One of my Favorite Villains! I hope this goes through, I reallly hate the politics in this whole fiasco with the character rights! It’s ashame these people are so greedy and can’t compromise on stuff! It’s like the whole Crow situation with Corin and James committed put passion into the art and craft and studios shut stuff down! It’s sick!

@CinemaJackXCI - Yes! Brubakers Books of Doom is phenomenal! A film in that style would be unique because of how documentary-ish the book is. If the merger happens and Disney lets this happen, I'd love a sequel based on Doctor Doom Doctor Strange Triumph and Torment!

@AbidNaga - He’d work best in the MCU anyway because they established magic and crazy tech incredibly well

Noah Hawley can direct Fantastic Four for Disney and bring that own retro tone to the film.

@Repian - I feel like he could make a great space exploration film. I don't think a "supervillain" is needed for the first f4, would love if its just Reeds curiosity that takes the family across the universe after events of Avengers, and Infinity War.

Feige should pick Hawley and his script up and try to incoporate it into the potential F4 reboot.

After Infinity War esentially being a movie about Thanos and his heroes journey, it would be interesting to see the F4 from the persepctive of Doom.
