WANDAVISION Director Matt Shakman Rumored To Have Signed On To Helm FANTASTIC FOUR

Has Marvel Studios found someone to replace Jon Watts as the director of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot? A New rumor claims that WandaVision's Matt Shakman has signed on to helm the movie.

Marvel Studios has been searching for someone to replace Jon Watts since the Spider-Man: No Way Home director parted ways with the planned Fantastic Four reboot earlier this year, and it sounds like Kevin Feige and co. may have found a filmmaker to step behind the camera to ensure the movie is ready for its scheduled 2024 release date.

The Direct is reporting that WandaVision director Matt Shakman has signed on to helm Fantastic Four.

This should obviously be treated as a rumor for the time being, but if there is any truth to it, we will most likely find out fairly soon when Marvel Studios' D23 Expo presentation takes place on Saturday, September 10.

In addition to WandaVision, Shakman has helmed episodes of Succession, Game of Thrones, and Fargo. We recently learned that he's set to direct the first two episodes of Apple TV's live-action Godzilla and The Titans series, and is also reportedly in line to direct Star Trek 4. So, it's fair to say they guy has a full plate at the moment!

We know next to nothing about the studio's plans for Marvel's First Family, but it has been confirmed that the movie will not retell the team's origin.

“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” said Feige in a recent interview. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”

John Krasinski appeared as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while the A Quiet Place actor has denied any knowledge of his potential return, we'd be very surprised if he didn't reprise the role. A rumor has also done the rounds that Jason Segel will debut as The Thing in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but that seems doubtful.

He’s also directed a shitton of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

@Asterisk -
He did a great job with WandaVision and if he has been involved with Always Sunny he has a sense of humor. Gine with it.

@Asterisk - i loved always sunny and his episodes, but I’m in the minority that thought wandavision was all over the place and was about 1.5 hours too long…

I still maintain that episode 1 and 2 were boring and drawn out just for the sake of the “one tv era per episode” idea. We all knew it was going to have different eras by the promos, and advancing the plot with one to two mysterious questions per episode was NOT good writing or pacing. And even the whole plot and resolution, ralph, Agnes’ actions and motivations, all super thin, poorly done, and reeked of mid production rewrites.

@ThePott - Frank is easily The Thing. Dee is The Invisible Woman, cause they don't notice her most of the time anyway. I would put Mac as The Human Torch, cause they've called him a flamer plenty before. Dennis would make for the obvious Doctor Doom, but he also would insist on being utterly fantastic, aka Mister Fantastic, in which case I would be very happy to see Charlie as Doctor Doom.

@Asterisk - That's a huge PLUS in my book. But... IDK, going from rumors that they were going for BIG NAME directors to this is kind of a letdown.

@Asterisk - That was the first thing that jumped out at me from his IMDb, as well. I'm sold.

This has to be announced at D23, would be shocked if it's not.

I doubt it personally. He's scheduled to direct the untitled Star Trek movie for a 2023 release, The Great season 3 for 2023/2024 and a Monsterverse series for 2024/2025.

I doubt any of those are happening except for the great season 3.

@Corruptor - now now. She may have taken over an entire town, killed many heroes, and threatened all of reality, but none of that compares to mansplaining! /s

@Origame - And right after realizing her behavior was not correct in the first movie, she says "f*ck it" and becomes a psycho murderer in the second FF movie written by the guy from the Loki show.

I liked Wandavision so fine with me. If it's true, I hope F4 is the MCU version of Star trek. Speaking of star trek, if not Krasinski as Reed, how about...
