Talk of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Conan the Barbarian revival seems to have fizzled out over the past couple of years, but we do have some exciting news about Robert E. Howard's iconic warrior on the small screen.

Deadline reports that a new Conan series is in the works at Netflix. The show is being headed up by Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, and the deal would give the streaming giant exclusive access to the vast literary history of the character, which stretches all the way back to 1953. It sounds like there may also be tentative plans in place for an animated series.

The search is now underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the script and a director to helm the series.

This is obviously a separate project to the Conan TV series that was being developed for Amazon from from Colony co-creator Ryan Condal and Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik, which we haven't had any updates on since 2018.

The last time we saw the vicious Cimmerian hero in action was in the 2011 Conan movie starring Aquaman's Jason Momoa. That adaptation was not very well received, however.

What do you guys make of this news? Who would you like to see in the lead role? Let us know in the comments.

@Tpo81 - it’s ironic, because you tried to make a joke at Mark’s header, but accidentally actually spelled it correctly.

@dracula - I'm in the opposite boat. I find the content lacking for such a large media conglomerate and the whole curated content angle bizarre as they own it all, not like Netflix who license material to supplement their own.

@patgreyc - true there isnt as much as I expected, but really on disney plus, the main draw is the animated stuff, on Max, you have a good amount of great animated stuff, and a much larger amount of quality live action stuff

I want Netflix to adapt Assassin's Creed. Make the series look good, instead of that kinda average movie.
Imagine each season with a different Assassin.

Love action would be incredible. Series budgets have expanded so much of late and it’s really good some properties that would normally only considered for big budget films have potential for more depth in there storytelling.

@Godzillakartt - Nothing beats that camel-punch scene imo.

Can you imagine the shitfits people would have about this kinda stuff nowadays? To be honest, Idk if you could ever do any real version of Conan in today's "sensitive" culture.

“I mean is he doing well?”
“More like well done”
“WOULD YOU STOP SPEAKING IN PUNS AND CATCHPHRASES?!?!”

“...sorry lame joke”
“It’s ok”
“You know what you do when a joke is lame?”
“You put it down?”
“No you-yes. You put it down. For the count. One horsey, two horsey, ha, ha, haaa”

@Godzillakartt - In these "politically correct" (terribly inaccurate phrase imo) times, I don't know how you would do a "true" Conan.

I'm not sure how pillaging, raping, and occasional animal abuse would go over with today's "sensitive" audiences. You could tell them it's just a piece of fantasy, but that doesn't stop them from projecting their views of "morality" on what is just a work of fiction.

This is a difficult role to cast. Wonder who they can get? Momoa was awful as Conan.
