Conan and Kull Updates

Paradox Entertainment President and CEO Fredrik Malmberg discusses various films including Conan and Kull.

The company Paradox Entertainment develops and licenses mainly character-based properties, which include stories and characters of the late author Robert E. Howard. The next movie reported will be "Conan the Barbarian," and has been in full casting mode since the last month.

Fredrik Malmberg said the rumors that the adaption will focus on a teenage barbarian are totally false, but the lead role in the movie remains as yet uncast, even though plans for "Conan" start production early next year. Marcus Nispel (Friday the 13th and Pathfinder) directs.

Malmberg also confirms that Matthew Sand (Ninja Assassin) wrote a script for the movie "Kull the Conqueror" and Malmberg is producing with Denise Di Novi.

Matthew Sand recently spoke about the "Kull" project with Comic Book Resources, this is what he said:

"I did a screenplay for Kull, and while we were developing the screenplay, they did a great comic book. It was fun to see my interpretation of the Robert E. Howard literature go one way and the comic going another way. They were interesting bookends on what Howard did. But I love the comic book, and it couldn't be more different from what I wrote."

Back to Malmberg, he has said though he's not involved in the previously announced "Thusla Doom" film, which is based on the Conan antagonist. Paradox has licensed the rights out to a third party.

Paradox is also in various stages of development on movie adaptations of other Howard-created properties "Vultures" (based on Howard's 1936 western story) and Paradox Entertainment also holds the rights to "Buck Rogers," which has no connection with Robert E. Howard but is comic book related.

LEEE777 - I say bring them on! All these movies sound like epics in the making. What do you guys think?

I think they sounds good but we have heard ones that sounds good before but are just bad. Ninja Assassin had awesome action but the story was lacking.

Whatever the case with the films, the comics are still alive and well. Darick Robertson's new book looks amazing. Some of that art is better than anything we've ever seen from him.
This link has expandable images. Beautiful.

I'm still shaky about Nispel directing, TCM and Friday the 13th were bad, I did enjoy Pathfinder for what it was. So I have a small glimmer of hope maybe.. maybe Conan will be good. At least nothing they do can be as terrible as the TV series from the Late 90's early 2k.. now that was a train wreck.

I'm all for Conan, but I just don't see someone else in the role. Arnold sort of filled the shoes perfectly to me. Kevin Sorbo as Kull. Meh. Hercules is all I think when I see him so I wouldn't mind a replacement for that film.

Anyone have any suggestions for who would play Conan?

DDD - 12/4/2009, 7:47 PM
Yes, Cyborg Ninja@, as a matter of fact yes I do
have a suggestion for Conan!

Classically trained British actor, PAUL TELFER.
6'2" (same height as Ahhhnold) and ripped like a
mamasucka!

Well, when compared to the comic art and such, he just might work for me. A bit too pretty, not so manly and rugged looking, but he could work...

There is no good reason that Conan didn't become a huge franchise back in the 80's. Amazing how hollywood drops the ball on such great ideas with a massive amount of source material.

What about Roland Kickinger? He was Arnold's body double in Terminator Salvation. :)

Telfer is Conan in my opinion. Besides, Conan got just about every female in those books, you know he had at least some female attraction other than muscle. As far as I remember the books never descibed his actual appearance other than lean panther muscled and black hair as well as a bundle of scars. Oh, and the blue eyes.
phenomenon
phenomenon - 12/9/2009, 2:42 PM
@jerusalem jr. I don't think he's the worst choice ever.....but he's more a underwear model!
what do you want??? a darker harder movie or a movie like the beastmaster......
JerusalemJr
JerusalemJr - 12/9/2009, 3:32 PM
I can see what you mean Phenomenon, though I still say Telfer would make the best Conan. They just need to throw some dirt in his face and add some scars.
phenomenon
phenomenon - 12/10/2009, 9:48 AM
yep that's exactly my point, jerusalem. he is not bad but misses the finishing touch!lol,

but seriously, I'm a little bit afraid of the hulk 1 and 2 effect.
or maybe better..... why where charles bronson , eastwood, and bruce willis so pupular..... in their kind of movies they always played the raw outcast. not pretty to look at, but therefore their role as merciless killer was beleivable. A guy like conan should have a face that had alot of baaad experiences and not in bed.....lol

think about the punisher movies!!
but I have to be honest..... I couldn't point a better one at this time...... he's close but just misses that last bit of roughness.

by the way....... english isn't my native langauge... so if there are any grammatical faults....... you just have to live with it!lolol

hasta la vista

Need to find a young Charles Bronson type, like from back when he was playing ripped indians, or the great escape.
