The most legendary Barbarian of all time is back this Summer. Having thrived and evolved for eight consecutive decades in the public imagination- in prose and graphics, on the big screen and small, in games and properties of all kinds- Conan's exploits in the Hyborian Age now come alive like never before in a colossal 3D action-adventure film.

A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.

Since both cover arts are labeled 'Artwork TBC', take the above cover arts with a grain of salt until an official announcement for the film's DVD/Blu-Ray release is made. In the meantime, click the link below to preorder your copy.

Some of the fight scenes and action was good but overall it was an awful story and some really bad acting.

I still haven't seen it, I'm waiting for the DVD to come out here. Would've seen it earlier, but the horrid reviews kept me from watching it right away.

@Steevage There IS a way you can un-watch it, but I would never suggest such a thing. But you're in luck. Bad movies are not memorable, so that horrible experience will soon fade. How did I deal with it? Oh, I never watched that shit. Never will. =)

I liked it (:
it was a bloody, straight forward, mindless action flick.

Who cares about story in this case?
it didn't try to be a brain-twisting Oscar winning film, It was exactly what I wanted it to be, A Barbaric film.
headlopper
headlopper - 10/8/2011, 3:02 PM
@CherryBomb- Obviously you don't care about the source material. Ironically in interviews by those involved with the project prior to the premiere, stated they cared very much about the source material, but tragically they're illiterate because if they could read, they'd know Conan in the REH books and the Dark Horse comics is a far cry from the 'Conan' in the movie. But if you enjoyed it- hey , it's your money.
A bloody barbarian is fine, I just wish the production Co. that makes it doesn't slap a Conan sticker on it to draw ticket sales- it's inauthentic.

@Arminies- Bingo! That story would be a great adaptation to film or 'The Tower of the Elephant'. So many great stories to tell...*sigh*

@headlopper Well I don't know the source material so I watched it objectively. Same with what I do with X-Men, I've accepted the fact no CBM is gonna be 100% faithful to the comic, that's just Hollywood.

Headlopper@ How was this Conan a far cry from Conan in Howard's books? I have read everyone of them and Momoa is a far better representation of Conan than anything we have seen to date. Sure, they could have improved on some things... not perfect, but definitely close to Conan as he was penned.

Considering I own Arnie's Conan and I liked this one better, I will pick this one up as well.

@Ranger14- I respect your perspective, but Conan's unique personality never showed up. It was almost like a
caricature of him. The dialogue was embarrassing and insulting because it made Conan seems like a 'dumb barbarian' ,which he's a far cry from being. If you've read the books, you know this. Conan is intelligent, clever, concise and wise but simple in speech. He speaks, writes and reads many languages. He's a skilled tactician and strategist, very knowledgeable of geography, and resourceful. No, this wasn't the Conan in the movie.
Moreover, I very much dislike this notion that invader's can trespass upon Cimmarian lands and slaughter them. The Vanir and Asgard raiders were never able to threaten Cimmaria, and when Aquilonia established at fort there, the Cimmarian tribes joined together and crushed their army, sending back south in defeat. This revenge devise used in the movie was base and lazy. Besides, it was already used in the first Conan , where I feel it actually worked better. Conan deserves much more respect than this bloodfest; slaying is not the core of the character. Conan is defined by the quality of his heart. This movie was heartless.

Arnie made Conan seem like a "Dumb Barbarian", Mamoa did him justice! The film didn't have the greatest script but how many sword and sorcery film in this genre does? My only problem was that the ending was too soft compared to the rest of the film which was mostly entertaining as hell. Better music and a better ending minus the 3D push would have wielded more success at the box office.

Headlopper@ The criticism I did have of the actual Conan character was that they could have brought the intelligent factor more to the forefront than what was done, but I felt there were plenty of cases where his intelligent was portrayed in an indirect or subtle way. I remember commenting to my date at different times throughout the film the significance of some of the things he did in battle or interaction with adversaries as to where his intelligence showed. Even in his fighting style I found his tactical prowess to show. Far beyond what was delivered in the first film and Conan was full of heart in the books, but he was also a savage killing machine, which he certainly was in this film. Revenge was a definitely a main factor, but the people being enslaved was also a strong motivator and that was true to Conan's character in the books.

To each their own. It wasn't a perfect movie, but I felt it was much more true to Conan than the first blah fest.
