RESULTS: What Did You Think Of Conan The Barbarian?

Pretty definitive result for this one. Let's just say I think I'll be giving Conan 2011 a miss at the theater...

In all the movie polls I have featured on CBM this is the one that has had the most votes for the most negative option. With 453 Votes, 39.95% of you thought that Marcus Nispel's Conan The Barbarian was garbage. The next highest was the more positive second option with 296 Votes (26.10%).




The general consensus from the comments section seems to be: Bad script, bad acting, bad special effects, decent stunts. Now I would never let any critic or majority poll influence my decision to see a movie if I really wanted to, but since I as on the fence anyway, and I usually find you lot are quite lenient with movies in general, I'm gonna pass on this. I'll catch it on DVD..and if it's awesome we will be having words!

i watched some of it on download the picture was to dark in places & the sound was poor so i stopped it,i did like the bit with kid conan fighting the savages in the snow.

I saw it today. It was pretty bad. The action was ok, but the blood effects were WAY over the top (just like Punisher: Warzone and the majority of acting, CGI and sets were very, very mediocre. Momoa was decent. I'd give it 2/5.

IF THEY DO A SECOND ONE I THINK I'D WATCH IT BUT THEY NEED MONSTERS, SORCERERS, MORE SWORDPLAY AND HEAD LOPPING, MORE SHOW OF BRUTE STRENGTH..HE NEEDS FRIGG'N COMPANIONS WITH DIFFERENT SKILLS LIKE IN CONAN THE DESTROYER. IN THE OLD MOVIES THERE WAS A BALANCE OF HUMOR, BRUTALITY, DRAMA, AND STORY..I AGREE WITH THE POLL. I WISH IT WAS BETTER.

I read up on it and it made 10+ million opening weekend and the original made 9+ million... Really bad when the new one opened up in more theaters and tickets prices are double what they were back then. Go Arnold.

trailer was crap = film is crap

At least with most films it has a good trailer to get you to go see it even if it is crap,but there wasnt effort in the trailer at all

I was looking forward to seeing it when it came out, but with all the bad reviews I think I'll be waiting for the DVD.

Yep! Not the best... I liked the childhood scenes, they were cool. Maybe if it had come under a different name other than 'Conan' it might have had some of the pressure lifted of its shoulders. Its a high budget, standard fare Swords and Sorcery yarn. Better than alot of fantasy stuff we get, sadly it just couldn't meet its own hype.

Hopefully they'll do a remake of BeastMaster next haha ;)

It wasn't bad at all, what were people expecting ? The action was good, so were the visuals, Momoa did a great job and the "I thought it would suck from the trailer parts" didn't suck at all (the sand creatures were pretty freaky and not Mummy lame).

Gunsmith@ Conan isn't supposed to be a D&D character. I think the first film needed to be focused on him. I am still trying to figure out where the brutality and drama was in the Arnold film that you speak of. I do think the story and direction could have been stronger, but it was still truer to Howard's Conan than the predecessors.

I definitely don't think the effects or the acting was bad. I sometimes wonder how many of the people who vote or comment on these polls actually watch the film or just want to pile on the hater side of things to try to prove their point that a film sucks.

Probably not to be honest ROR...it was so mediocre, I'm not what else there is to say. The action was enjoyable enough, and it was far from boring, but like Green Lantern, it was just a BAD movie for the most part.

I havent seen it yet...as i havent seen Green Lantern yet...but they are both on my watch list. I think a lot of people these days are just spoiled. I mean, i was raised on comics and i've seen the first steps toward tv and movies. We had to be contend with a painted green bodybuilder, a guy in a spiderman siut throwing nets and i'm not even gonna talk about the batman in those days. I LOVE seeing my heroes in live action, wheter it is DC or Marvel or an independend movie i dont care...

Yes sometimes the CG sucks or the costume is off or he isnt wearing a helmet...so what? i rather see them like that then not at all...There are good movies out there and yeah a few terrible once. But still thats a lot better then the stuff i grew up with. So i'm gonna see Conan...and Green Lantern and have a blast...stop complaning and enjoy dammed!

Beyond horrible! No 3D, bad dialogue and boring, BOOOOOOORING action scenes....

Ahnult was the only Conan, which had balls to be bad ass! Jason Momoa was homo-erotic ape, who wields the sword and shows off... GOD!!!!

^^I Like I said....I sometimes wonder if people even watched the film. There is no comparison between the "bad-assness" of Momoa and Arnold. Arnold's fighting skills looked like a school girl compared to Momoa. Bad ass is slicing off someone's nose and later sticking your finger up it to cause pain and discomfort. THAT is a true barbarian being bad-ass.

Anyone, absolutely anyone who says Arnie was a good Conan simply hasn't a clue about the character at all. I'd wager most of the people who voted against this film never even watched it but simply stuck to their childhood memories not being raped by a Arnie flick that wasn't even close tot he source material and with a villain from another characters book!

This film wasn't brilliant but it was ten times better than the Arnie versions easily!

The Arnold one was great but it was great to see a Conan closer to the source novel. If they do a sequel, I would keep Jason Mamoa and get new writers and a new director.

To be honest the First Conan film wasn't too great (despite it being epic for how bad it was) Haven't seen the new one yet. Not expecting too much from it.

@SkinDo I'm with you I've seen the horrible effects, and the live action heroes of the 70's and 80's so anything they give me now is stellar and only get better in my opinion.

Violence of the film: Little bit over the top and not so realistic
Momoa as Conan: Good choice
Screenwriting and directing of the film: Total crap!
Acting: Crap (But major reason shitty script and bad director)

I'm guess that the majority of the people who claim to hate it didn't see it.

There really should be a didn't see it option for those who insist on voting just because there is poll up.

FWIW, I did see the movie and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to it coming out on Blu-ray. I'll buy it and watch it again.
