‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Trial Ends
The battle over the ownership of the film rights to Dungeons & Dragons is, for now, on a halt.
The ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ movie rights trial just recently had its time in court. And, now, after seven days the trial ends.
Hasbro slammed Warner Bros. and Sweetpea Entertainment a copyright and trademark infringement complaint
—a week shy after the
studio's announcement on the acquisition of the screen rights to the popular role-playing game from Courtney Solomon's Sweetpea Entertainment in early May. The complaint detailed that a
1994 agreement granted Sweetpea Entertainment the rights to Dungeons & Dragons but, due to inactivity, the rights have since allegedly reverted back to Hasbro.
It was believed that Hasbro was working on Dungeons & Dragons movie with Universal.
As to who gets to make the film, Deadline reports that, both Hasbro and Warner Bros. would have to wait
. “The rights between the two parties are complicated,” Judge Dolly Gee said Tuesday after both sides gave closing statements. She urged the parties to come up with an agreement instead of waiting for a decision from her.
